9:34, Thursday

Thanks guys for all the props, really nice of you all.

So a funny story. I filmed on 4-20 with Bevier and I was all excited tonight to go to the computer lab and edit (my computer can't really cut through high quality footage anymore). So I also needed to edit footage of a girls tap dancing recital which is kind of a long story too. So I have like, the two most embarrassing things anyone could ever have to edit (2 half naked dudes dancing and then a couple 19/20 year olds dancing).

So I walk into the lab and I figure it will be empty because its a Thursday night (Thursday's are big partying days here). But I guess since its finals there are people in here working on projects. So I figure I should start with the tap dancing because its not nearly as weird as footbag. And I plug it in with my earphones and I'm cutting through the songs and everyone is looking at me. I take my earphones out and it turns out that the one computer I'm on is broken and doesn't realize when it has headphones in it, so I'm blasting really silly tap dancing music in the computer lab. Strike 1.

Strike 2 is that I still feel really awkward so I have the IMovie import screen tucked away behind this Firefox window and I'm staring in the little LCD on the camera to make sure I'm catching everything. It kind of sucks.

So the session was really good (for Bevier) and I really wanted to make a special of him but I feel so frikken weird with all these people around me, especially after my little blunder with the speakers. Ugh, but Bevier busted so hard the other day and I am in the mood to rewatch it again. I however played terribly, so while Beviers will probably be in the video section I will keep my 2 good lines to the confines of this blog.

I really hate the way those green shoes look color wise. They feel pretty good and all but the frikken green pisses me off. So I took the black marker to them the other night and then I realized that teh sole is still green and thats what you see on basically every clipper so I didn't really solve my problem. Turns out that G-units are actually getting hard to find, which might suck as for me one day. Those white quantum 3's look so sexy but they break so fast and they really dont absorb any impact, its really a shame. What ever happened to Abshire's new shoe?

I was in history class and my teacher put on that song about San Francisco from the 60's I think it is. Something about a flower in your hair. It was really cool because he asked about Golden Gate Park and I was the only one in the class who had been there - all because of Green Cup last year and Steven L. Goldberg. Footbag +1.

So now I am debating leaving this lab and coming back at 3 in the morning where no one can watch me edit footage... Ugh. Expect some video in the near future when I either grow some balls, footbag becomes cool, or everyone leaves this lab.

That might've been only a few strings, but damn! The first run was epic and the second string was, hell I don't even know a word to describe the second run!

These little 2 min videos from you could be some of the best vids that I have! Thanks for putting them out!

So I'm super stressed with finals and life stuff, but today I played hack and my style was the hotness. Like, just cutting shit up. Maybe I'm cocky.

Anyway, I'm in this computer lab and I have a ton of work to do. I put on this band that some kid at the newspaper told me about. When I was about 10 my parents sent me to sleep away camp about 2 hours from my house in the Appalachian Mountains which is a range that runs down the eastern coast of the states. It was a small camp with probably about 300 campers from 8-16. I am not sure why I went but looking back I am glad I did. It was my first time living outside of Bethlehem and really being in nature.

There is one thing that sticks out about the whole summer I spent away, and that's orange soda. I was very homesick as a 10 year old far from his parents and I remember that the camp was a little on the strict side. Lights out at 10, early rise at about 6:30 for a crappy breakfast in the cafeteria. But I remember that we could stay up in the dark till about 11 and talk. And I remember that I had a big jar of quarters and my counselor used to let me walk to the soda machines about 600 yards from my cabin and I remember how big of a freedom that was. I would walk out into the humid Pennsylvania air and see the soda machine glowing off in the distance, its Coca-Cola symbol shining like some distant mirage through the thick air.

I would hold my two quarters tightly in my little fist and make a straight path across the quad. It was about halfway there that my 10 year old fear of the wild would kick in. I would wonder about the bears and wolves that other campers swore were in the hills. Would they kill a small boy for a carbonated beverage? The coins slid out of my fingers down the slot as I thought about this and briskly walked back to my cabin. The cold can would perspire as it found itself in the hot summer night and I'd quicken my step even more as my palm sweat mixed with the cold beads of water.

I remember the cabin door slamming and everyone would be sitting up in their beds talking about taboo topics that wouldn't fly in their own homes. I am not sure what many of the nights were about but I do recall falling asleep to stories of cute girls on the other side of the camp and whisperings about the taboo "sex" thing, then referred to as "doing it". I didn't have much interest in these conversations and I must admit 10 years later I still don't. I would sit in my bed, pull the blanket up over my knees and clutch the can in my hands like some hidden treasure. My small fingers would jam under the tab and release the pressure inside, the slight fizz of the soda almost inaudible over the giggles of my preteen comrades.

It would hit me quick, like opening the freezer at the grocery store or getting out of an outdoor hot tub in winter. It would chill my sensitive teeth as it raced down my throat happily fizzing as it found a new home inside my esophagus. I would tilt the can back, releasing the liquid from its aluminum trappings at an increasing speed. The non-air conditioned cabin and my rickety twin bed fell into the background as I downed the can without stopping.

I don't know why I remember those orange soda nights so vividly. I specifically drink orange soda less ever since then just to keep that memory a little bit more intact. When I search for more images from that summer the orange soda helps bring them back. I remember getting over a lot of fears, learning how to swim, living with others for the first time, and going down a long zip line in between some evegreens. I will send my son or daughter to summer camp.
