Last day I broke both nails of middle toes. It's not an usual breaking, it's like the pictures:
Left foot, middle toe:
Right foot, middle toe:
I think it's caused by the action of catching the footbag with the toe, which may break my nails. Now I bendage my toes when I play. Anyways, I think it's weird. Does it happen to you? Do you think it is normal?
It's also possible you are doing your toe stalls too close to the toes. When I do toe stalls, I actually catch the bag on the part of the foot behind the toes.
You may also want to make sure your diet has enough calcium/whatever else your body needs for strong nails.
Yeh I was going to suggest checking your diet. When your fingernails are longer, do they bend/fold, or are they rigid? You may want take a nutrition supplement - there are lots of there for soft nails, I've taken a Blackmores one which worked really well, but not be available for you as its an Australian brand:
When I play to extremes I often break nails completely off!!!
What is happening to me is that some of the combos I perform require quick stops and starts that jam my foot forward into the shoe. Over time the jamming takes it's toll and nails break, crack, and sometimes pop off.
Jeremy - if it hasn't happened to you, then you must not be pushing hard enough. LOL jk
Anyways - my shoes are kinda too big for my feet so there is room inside the toe box for my feet to slide around. Ultimately I think this is the root of the problem.
I haven't had nails break before, but I cut my big toenail too short once, and I guess I either landed too hard once or did a quick direction change and the nail kind of split from the skin that holds the nail there, but only on the side, which lead to a lot of soreness and redness for a couple weeks until it healed. Maybe you're cutting your nails too short? I think that's what my problem might have been.
