Steel City Freestyle
Made it home. 180lbs. Probably 178 when I left.
Legs feel powerful from 10 days of traveling with 2 bags+ luggage. Knees feel good.
Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Rome
I hope to kick some tomorrow.
Items I have thought about:
* I will practice a tighter, deeper and longer-held version of ducking butterflies. It will be the core of my next phase. I will concentrate on:
Stepping out of it
Spinning out of it
PM'ing to longer held toes out of it
Eventually Dynos, but not until my form is solid
* Atomic sets out of longer-held PM's
* Spins and Gyros
* DOD's
* Drifters
* DOL's

Kicked with Jake and Matt. Had a great time, despite injuring myself twice over the course of the session. First I tweaked my ankle a bit, and then I made the mistake of trying nuclear with my tweaked ankle as a support, which led to an unexpected knee injury on the rooted leg.
Highlights:
*5 or hippy atom on the weak side
*swirling osis- string, first try. Swirling osis second try as well. Footed the other side
*spins and gyros still seem alright, despite time off
*New move: atomic op side simple swirl, footed twice
*was very close to atomic ss swirl
*swirls were looking good
* some decent strings before the knee business
No more Nuclear set for me.

Still injured, Matt and I. But we kicked anyway. Right side butterfly hurts. Completely wack.
*Ripstein
*gyro clippers
*lots of ducking
*footed atom-tripwalk
*ducking pm-weak hippy legbeater, first try
*stepping sets were strong on the left, super close to PS rev.W
*some nice quantum and atomice stuff
made a couple efforts at one trick. not so close yet, but it feels possible:
rev. whirling, behind the back PS whirl. I would really like to hit this soon, or even see it done. It takes a bit more height than I am prepared to give it at the moment (injury-wise,) but I really like the idea of it, and I don't remember seeing it. Bet that Tripp could hit this, and I am not just saying this because of the sick new video on his blog.

Knee is still wacked-out a bit, but I played bette than usual. Matt was there too.
* Blender, first try on left side- string, footed first try on other side shortly later
* Trying to relearn far dyno, hit it on one side
*DLO-bf swirl (toe) first two tries
*blurs and ripwalks both sides
*nice twirls
*ducking butterfly-rev. whirl-whirl-string
*far bf swirl-ducking butterfly-string
*long string with a really deep dyno and far symposium rev. whirl
six contacts of juggling with my palms facing down. Don't know what this is called, but I was compelled to do it as a break from learning Javascript for use in "Jitter" (which is what I am doing right now.) I then followed it up with about 10 contacts of random weight footbags, standard juggling. Feeling a bit organized. Made some interesting work recently. I would post it but I can't yet. I need to keep it under wraps for now.

I think that overhand juggling is called 'clawing'.
Nice stuff btw.
Go Pens?

Nice, thanks- appropriate that that is what learning JS makes me want to doColin wrote:I think that overhand juggling is called 'clawing'.
Thanks, I appreciate that. Wish I wasn't injured. I hope seriously hope this goes away soon, because I really want to throw down (it's how I hurt myself in the first place- been really aggressive since traveling- felt really good walking all that much with heavy bags-I have been keeping it up with walking 4+miles to work each day day and pushups)Colin wrote:Nice stuff btw.
If it makes my neighbors and coworkers happy, well then sure!Colin wrote:Go Pens?

The only couple tried I could get on camera before my daughter started freaking. They didn't feel clean at first, but at least they look super toey. Tried to keep from doing rev whirling rev swivel, which is really what it feels like.
!!! (pounding fist in air) -YES!
That is exactly the trick I was think of- sort of a bastard child of dada and rev. swivel.
Hahaha, I knew you could hit it
Toey, perhaps, but imo it's there both times. The whole time I thought about that trick I knew you had each of the components down + the jump height.
I hope for your sake that it's an invention, but that is so rare these days.
For the sake of curiosity, I wonder how many adds that would be.
xby+bdy+delay+1(bdy/pdx?)+2(dex)= 6 adds I think? I imagine it gets either a paradox or a body for the behind the back switch. Not both.
I am yet to get the symp. motion high/fluid enough, but I really like feeling of having the delay foot in place and waiting to come down with the bag. I imagine that this might be a similar feeling to coming down with superfly.

Good times.
On my way to Matt's house I saw Jake on the street. He did not have his gear, but he joined us as we kicked.
It was my first time kicking in a bout a week. I was experiencing horrible things in my lower right leg. I got some good advice to wait three days to kick again on Saturday, when I exclaimed that my leg was finally feeling decent. I feel that that was a good idea.
On my way to kick today I actually felt worried about kicking at all. Concerned. Nervous. Hopeful that I could play again. Feeling like I hadn't had a full session since before I left for Italy, and robbed via injury ever since.
So I kicked. and it was good.
Then, later while watching the Penguins victory with Matt at a bar, someone stopped me to compliment me on a speech I did my first semester studying art at Pitt. It compared boroque/rococo architecure to Jim Hendrix and Roger Mayer guitar pedals. My words made someone's night better. Dude remembered my name and everything. Got more compliments tonight that I actually appreciate than I am used to. And, just yesterday I started thinking about how much I want to get my MFA and teach...
Anyway, highlights:
Forgot to post from last session:
*simple swirl bsos
Matt:
*spinning whirl, etc
Me:
*string with 10+ consecutive ducking clippers, and a twirl in it
*long strings with some variety
*swirls, both sides
*ripstein-osis-toe-string
*ripwalk to weak side spinning clipper three different times
*almost hit gyro ducking first try
*weak side blur twice in one string
*progress with other side stepping set
had fun

Kicked with Dave at new location near where he is staying. AC. Nice.
I was concerned about the session, because I have been a bit injured recently, and I busted my ass at work today but I played pretty well considering.
General Highlights:
*Got to kick with Dave
*a range of creative and/or visceral moves/links/strings of Dave's.
Personal Highlights:
*Weakside blur felt good
*two particularly long(ish) strings- 22-25 contacts
*Two new moves: toe-gyro same toe, and butterfly gyro toe
**Got excited about some of these new concepts, including swirling monster-hit swirling osis, dt trying it. I know can get this concept and I like it a lot.

What a hard week. Seriously. I can't get into it here, but by the time I left work I tonight I couldn't tell if I want to shred or...
Blah.
So, I kicked with Matt (and Briefly) Jake.
highlights:
Matt: Fusion-blurriest
Me:
*Twirl-butterfly gyro toe
*Butterfly gyro toe, repeat
*clipper-inf. gyro toe
*long strings
*good swirls
*so close to double pickup repeat (twice0
fun

Kicked at a festival with Dave.
Started hard but held back. The heat/sun was intense and wasn't breathing so well. Really want to try doing pushups before sessions. Like at least an hour or so. They establish good, short-term breathing patterns, even when using power. I had not done any of these yet today.
Dave was killer.
Highlights:
*Dyno-far Dyno
*clipper set, ss butterfly gyro toe midstring
*string starting with trip walk that went well
*some longish strings
*lots of Dynos

Kicked with Matt, Josh G. and his cousin Jeff. Jeff is getting better at controlling the bag. I think he needs to ask more questions because he takes advice really well.
Josh hit a bunch of gnarly shit. Here are a few examples:
*Pixie swivel
*Pixie rev. bf swirl
*quantum dlo
etc etc
Matt:
*shooting dlo
etc etc
Me:
*dyno-wauxspin
*atom-wauxspin
*long string with crispy paradon bsos, misdtring
*some long strings
etc
EDIT:
I contribute to this blog to embarrass progress and to maintain perspective on my footbag development, equally and foremost. So I should be more thorough.
More me:
*Torques midstring on right side, though off the foot on left. N(eeds improvement)
*Twirls on left side, but I really need to keep the set knee high or what appears from my perspective to be slightly below knee high)
*I need to school whirls on my left side, since I have not even bad habits there yet- I should be able to execute them in a harmless manner
*Stepping out of weak side-hit ripwalks today that looked good. I need to keep my back straight and knees bent.
*Twenty consecutive clippers with as long delays as I could muster, bsos towards the end of the session- I should do this more often to correct my habit of freaking out and throwing the bag up too early- especially when stepping or spinning
*Tripwalks on both sides seem decent, as were legbeaters. I can't forget about weak atom though
*hit some nice drills:ducking pm inf. X4, ducking clipper-rev. whirl-pm-inf repeat-ducking clipper- whirl pm-string-other ducking clipper drop on weak whirl (twice, in two different strings)
*double pickup is nearly dialed. I need to get this on the other side, big time

Kicked with Matt. Need to stop effing with blenders and whirls.
Highlights:
Matt:
*Last session: Paradon swirl. Twice.
*Today: blurriest b2b
Me:
*New move: ducking wauxspin from clipper- sealed
*New combo: double switchover- smear
*Ripwalks on the weak side
*Stepping legover- blurriest seems like it may be possible for me at some point, oddly enough
*Some nice strings
Thinking about going to NYFA Jam with Matt. Thinking really hard about it.

edited to include Ian's post from prev. page:
dble switch > smear... yeah, I like that, nice work
step lo > blurriest.. isn't blurriest from clipper?
nyfa jam would be fun... i doubt it will happen for me, but the idea has crossed my mind. if you two went, it would cross my mind even more
