How much do you play a week?(and importance of rest days?)
Hey guys. Just wondered how often most people seem to shred a week? I try and do atleast 2 hours a day. I also wondered how important people think rest days are? I've found as I've started to pull of harder tricks and strings having a rest every few days is getting more important! Not sure if it's just how unfit I am but after 5 days of shred, yesterday my legs just felt like jelly. After half an hour I couldn't hit anything so today I'm having a rest, if I can stop myself from slipping the lavers on...

Rest is pivotal to getting better; you need to let your muscles heal. Ideally you should train different concepts each day, so as not to overwork a single set of muscles. Your legs feeling like jelly is a good thing, it means you've been working hard, but when you feel like that, you NEED to rest that day.
I play 8-10 hours a week right now, probably over 5 days a week. One day of rest every 3 days on average probably.

A few years ago one of the reason i had stopped 'bagging was becuase i have bad knees and they hurt, a lot, every single time i picked up a bag, every single time i hit it or tried tricks. So i figured with the winter coming i'dgive it a rest, well now that i am back into it, they dont hurt, i dont hack as much as i did but i plan to be up to that much minus a few days every now and again for rest, one thing i do after every session is stretch and take a long really hot bath, both help my muscles to relax

I always make sure I stretch before and after a session, as I'm paranoid about hurting myself. I don't want anything to happen that will stop me from being able to kick! I guess the rest days are pretty important to if I want to avoid injuries, specially since I seem to be playing alot at the moment. After my session yesterday my legs have been feeling pretty dead all day, I'm glad I managed to give shred a miss for the day!

Playing a lot is a great way to get better, but you also need to be smart about how you play.
1. Use good insoles.
2. If you can play on carpeting, track material, mats, or something softer than concrete, do it.
3. Take some time to warm up and warm down each session.
4. Stay hydrated throughout your session.
5. I like to eat a protein bar and a banana within 30 minutes of finishing a shred. I think it helps my muscles recover.

Good insoles are something i realy need. at the moment ive not got any at all and realy feel it in the soles of my feet and my shins after a long session, especially when ive been playing on my tiled kitchen floor. I find i need to strectch quite alot ever since I injured my hamstring a few years ago when i used to do alot of track running. Im determined not to let it stop from kicking so I stretch pretty thoroughly before and after every session i do.

i never used to stretch, noww i wish i had, i strained my calf pretty soon after starting a shred, within 30min i could barley stand on my right leg!!! bit gutted, still my own fault!!!!
usually the only warm up i had been doing was casual inside kicks, setting a target to reah, and try reach it 3 times. by that time im usally pretty loose!!!! evidently not loose enough!!!
gonna have a couple of rest days then start a new warm up ragiem

I soo envy you, due to the poor condition of my knees I'm down to 2 hours a weekthe_8_bit_kid wrote: I try and do atleast 2 hours a day.
it's pretty frustrating, I wish I had legs that could bear everyday sessions..

playtime atm is 10-12 hrs / week.
your body rebuilds itself only during rest, never exercise. so no matter where or when you get it, make sure you are getting adequate sleep. do what works for you within the limitations of your lifestyle.
something that has helped me a lot in the past month, is to take naps immediately following sessions. have some quick protein meals planned for post-session, then nap for 45 minutes or so.
getting plenty of rest on a daily basis will cut down on the amount of time you need to take off entirely.
above all, listen to your body.

Footbag is not easy on the joints. I have my own injuries and I imagine myself walking like a cripple or using a robotic legs in my future
Ive seen healthy kids develop injuries in short time as well
My best advice would be to keep things in context, being the best sideline shredder in any given year doesnt mean a shit. GO big or go home, practice to actually compete. Or else be satisfied to just play, but if you wanna really push it you HAVE to compete.
Edit- Ive never built my legs up strongLOL. But I can say for me the very best thing has been time off. Most sports have seasons and stuff and the year round footbag program does a number on your joint if you give them no rest. Myself I used to get to a point that shred no longer made my muscles sore but the joints couldnt handle it.

i prob play on average an 1 1/2hours every day, so between 10-11 hours a week. though depending on the weather it might be diff. sounds crazy but i play more when it rains because its colder, so i can play for longer.
england at the momment is going through a really humid spell so cant shred comfortably for long.
i dont often play outside enless im with people, then i usally play for about 4-6hours in 1day!
doesnt seem like alot just 1 1/2 hour aday, and usally that is collectivly throughout the day, but it does meen i dont have to rest because i rest throughout the day!
prob not the best playing style but it working for me atm.

At the moment Im probably playing around 4 or 5 hours on saturdays taking into account that I also play net, usually meaning sundays are a day off because I am exhausted.
Through the week, it all depends on how work has left me feeling. Sometimes 2 hours, sometimes its just a 10 minute blast. I am trying to get more regimented though, but im packing up smoking right now, so what i feel like doing and when is often unpredictable
