I have recently been contacted by a tv production company to do a footbag demo for a new show for a branch of programming called CITV.
The show is intended to show children a variety of sports and activities to encourage them to become more active ready for the summer holidays, and so will air just before they start.
CITV is the children orientated collection of programmes aired on channel 3 of our English set of 5 terrestrial channels., and so the programme should get good exposure. So, despite my relative lack of experience and lower level of ability (i have been playing for 2 years and currently generally play at a tiltless/guiltless level), i feel that although i cannot represent the higher level and possibilities of the game, I will at least be able to give the game some desperately needed UK exposure.
The section on footbag will only be 2 or 3 minutes long, and in that time i will have a quick chat with the 2 presenters, do a demo and then show some basics to a kid out of the live audience.
I would have liked to do a routine (although I haven't done one before) but they only contacted me a couple of days ago and filming is on friday so think id be pushed for time. But I have read the stickied topic "how to present footbag to a group" and the recent post about the school demo and have a good idea of how i will show them footbag and also do the tutorial part.
However I have a real lack of knowledge of the history and general facts of the game such as an up to date estimate on the number of players, where it is most popular, and other things you might tell new listeners about the game, if anyone can help me out with that!
Also I wanted to have somewhere concrete to direct any interested viewers. I want somewhere very beginner orientated and feel footbag.org and modified.in can be a bit confusing for newbies. So, I was thinking of making a uk based site with the immediate aim of simply directing people to the right websites, such as where to buy good beginner bags, tutorial videos, general shred videos and other footbag websites, just to make it really clear and easy.
SO, after that essay, I would really appreciate:
-A brief history of the game and other interesting facts people think will help attract a new audience
-Links to useful tools for complete beginners
