Ok so sorry for the delay in updating this. No doubt there will be some controversy regarding this post, but I have a request before I start. Some of my friends and I are trying to get as many silly letters published in the local paper. Therefore if you have complaints about my list you need to email them to me (owheelj @ footbag dot org) as the CC to also emailing them to [email protected] You must also write your complaint in the format of a letter to the editor in a newspaper. You may also post your letter in this topic if you like, and if you do that I'll respond in this topic as well. Failure to comply with the procedures outlined will result in a failure to respond on my behalf.

The following records have been removed from the list;

Pixie legover - removing my own records from the list
Pixie tap - removing my own records from the list
far symposium symp reverse whirl - too obscure
blazing far butterfly - too obscure

The following have not been added (posted in the past);

Eclipse - too obscure
Butterflier - too obscure
Toe delay - needs to be a single video.
Symple swirl - too similar to swirl.

Essentially I have opted for the extreme opposite of what I said when I last discussed this issue. Anything borderline has been removed. I figured this was the easiest way of having a clear black and light line for what is included and what is not, or at least more clarity. It's also more of what I wanted when I set this up. I fully encourage anybody who thinks those records should be concluded to start their own record list, on footbag.org or wherever else they like, or at the very least, to volunteer to help with with this project in some manner. Criticisms from people who haven't contributed anything to the project (and which aren't emailed to the address above and written as a letter to the editor) will be viewed upon harshly.

Symp pixie (ken, 28, 18/06/2009); I count 29 and have put the record up as that. The last one is not a very good one but looks clean as far as I can tell. Was there are reason for this being listed as 28 other than miscounting? (Not that I'm having a go at you if it was a miscount - understandble and no need to defend yourself, I just want to be clear that I'm putting up the correct amount

)

Not included;

Pdx whirl - Chad D, 16. I'm unsure if I should include this or not. Parts of the body are cut out of frame during the 16, but at the same time, it seems fairly clear to me that he's hitting this. Would appreciate thoughts, you don't need to send these as a letter to the editor if commenting on this specific issue if you don't want to (but you're welcome to)

You can ask but I'll only respond if you put the request in the form of a letter to the editor of the mercury newspaper and send them an email to the address given in my large post above while CCing me.

edit; Forgot to add, when you send letters to the Mercury you need to include your full name, address and phone number in the email. They won't publish these (except your name), it's just to verify you. If you don't want me to have these details you're welcome to not CC me and I'll respond when your letter is published, probably just by sending a reply to the paper, but I'll take a photo of it and post it up so people who don't read the Mercury can see it.

You haven't followed the rules, but I'll respond anyway.

I decided we needed firm and clear rules, so I got rid of everything that I thought was borderline. Actually I just went through all the posts and removed all the tricks people had complained about.

I'm very keen for the list to not become too big, and there are obviously still quite a few records that could be set but haven't yet.

thats alright, you didnt follow my rule which is i dont follow your "rules"

its your list, do what you want with it but as long as this is an open forum i have the right to give my opinion in this thread and its my opinion that blazing butter is far more common than half the shit on the list. i also dont see the logic in trying to keep the list short, especially since a full list of all the "commom" footbag moves would still be at least a couple hundred videos long. maybe if you limit it to just 3 adds or less...

Yep you certainly do, and indeed through out this whole topic, from the very first post, I've encouraged people to voice their criticisms.

I think we can agree that if we have a list of common and uncommon moves, this would be longer than just a list of common moves, so while the common moves list will still be long, it will obviously be shorter than if I included everything. I think we'd also agree that a list of just 3 adds and below would not be an exciting list or achieve the purpose I intended for this list.

So obviously their a multiple factors I'm trying to balance. I want a good list that is exciting to footbag geeks like myself and includes most of the tricks that you'd see at a footbag tournament that can be hit consecutively, but I also want a list that is as short as possible and that feels "sleek" rather than "bulky."

With that in mind, I obviously need to weigh up the different factors and take compromises to create a list that meets all the different factors as much as possible. Simply looking at one factor and making the decision that meets that single factor as much as possible will mean that I'll get unacceptable results for the other factors.

To address your question of blazing butterfly. I'm sure you were exaggerating, but which tricks do you think are less common than blazing butterfly on the list? Remember that we're taking into account difficult as well - so we're trying to balance the fact that really hard moves are only hit seldom because they are really hard. Of course this is subjective, which is one of the reasons I really rely on people telling me what they think.

Sorry I need to go to work, so I'll address the specifics of blazing butterfly when I get a chance, but feel free to reply before that.

Hey Jeremy, you want to keep the list lean, which is fair enough, but would you consider posting a list (even a small one) of moves that you would like to see on your record list but that no-one has sent in videos for?

Maybe that could garner interest and motivate posters to break records for those tricks knowing they'd end up on here.

I got to thinking about this list and my conclusion is that this list only represents repeatable tricks. Tricks like blur (from clipper) and blizzard which are probably in the most common category are not repeatable back to back.

That said - I am not as worried about the historical significance of this list as I was before.

Do you have any plans for addressing these types of moves? Or would you consider them just not recordable?

I wish you would have pointed this out before. I spent all of my last session trying to set the record for PDLO, and couldn't figure out how to do them back to back. Now I see I wasted my time. I'm glad you put in the time to think about the list, arrive at your conclusion and share it with us.
