Nathan
well hello there!
a lot has happened since I last saw you, blog. the recent tournament here in state college has motivated me to start playing footbag more often, and it's been fun. it's also summer now so i have a lot of time to myself and I keep busy.
I've begun actively trying to put on weight and it's a lot of work. As per most online suggestions, i'm trying to eat about 150g of protein a day. Basically this is 52g from protein powder and the rest is from eggs, milk, cheese, nuts and yogurt. This fills me up to the point that I eat almost no carbs, and i'm not sure if that's healthy? I don't really get hungry anymore because I am constantly eating and feeling full. I also lift weights 4x a week with low reps and high weight.
Somewhere around June/July of this year marked 5 years playing footbag for me. I started when I turned 12, and I just turned 17 in June. I don't really have much to reflect on, but I always thought that by this point I would be better than I am. Mostly this is because I don't really practice anymore. Looking through my old highlights and stuff, I think I improved more in 2005 then I did in 2006-right now put together. Which is ok I guess.
Either way, there are some tricks that you should be able to hit after 5 years playing footbag that I cannot. These are the tricks that I will learn by the end of this year.
PS Whirl
PDX Egg
Barfly
Ripped Warrior
sounds like a plan.

I personally think that your quest to become obese is already paved right from your room to the kitchen where your mother cooks all of her food. All amazing!
Congratulations on playing for five years, luckily you still have far more than 5 ahead of you! Imagine how good you'll be if you keep it up until you are in your twenties.
Ripped Warrior will be a fun trick, and I am POSITIVE that you can do it today.
Seriously, you can.
Have fun in state college.

Felt the need to update this since I have a lot going on right now.
I play footbag pretty often, usually in my room and only for 15-30 minutes a day. I get either bored or tired after that, but it's better than when I don't play footbag at all for months. One of the best things about playing footbag for me is the music I listen to, which is why I enjoy solo sessions the most. Sometimes I even stop playing when I can't find music I want to listen to anymore.
I have 3 more days of high school, and had my advising day at Penn State today. I already live in the same town as PSU, so I am a little upset the college isn't going to be a time for me to explore a new stomping ground. I'm sure living in the dorms is going to be different, but I am already so familiar with the campus and downtown. I've already been to a frat party, and already know I don't want to go to very many more of them.
I applied undecided to college, because I've been looking at majoring in about 7 different things--but after I left the advising thing today I kind of made my mind up a bit more. I think the job I want eventually is a feature writer or editor in a magazine, like the New Yorker, so maybe I will do Print Journalism/Advertising and PR. I was considering Marketing but the courseload reminds me of a pile of shit.
It is pretty crazy that high school is ending--but most of my friends are going to Penn State. I think that's another reason to be ambivalent about PSU, I don't want to be hanging out with all the same people in 3 years.
Earlier this month I finally found a girl who likes me, but next year she will still be in high school. weird.
This post seems a bit downtrodden, but I am actually really looking forward to this next year. Next weekend I am leaving for Canada with some of my best friends. We'll be camping, and if everything goes right I will stick around in and visit Toronto and Montreal, and then make my way down to the jam in NYC. I haven't visited any of those cities yet. Later this summer I'll be waiting tables full time, which is also something I've never done. new things are happening.

Yeah man, getting out of high school was so great and so many new things start to happen, you're going to like it. And I'm kind of in the same boat with the whole staying in the area thing but after a while you kind of get used to being close to home, it's not too bad.
Also I got the bag today, it's great, and I'll see you in NYC.

hello!
got back from nyc after having a buttload of fun at the nyfa jam. i really like the city, played pretty well in competitions, and had fun getting to know some new people. i finally met mike toolan who is a really cool guy.
my trip to canada went well despite not playing footbag at all while i was there. when i was with my friends i didn't really have the time, and after that i was running painfully short on money and was just kind of itching to get back home. it was fun either way.
today i played footbag for a good 1.5 hours which is definitely the longest i've played solo in a long time, and i played well too. here's what i hit:
-spin osis x3
-spin pdx illusion bsos
-rip>blurry drift>rpt both sides
-blurry whirl>step ss clip>rpt
-fog bsos
-vortex>pdx drift bsos
-vortex>pdx dlo bs
-pdx drift>tombstone>rpt bs
a lot of stuff that like, a week ago i was too out of practice to be able to hit. also found my favorite bag that i thought i had lost which was a nice surprise.
looking forward to college a lot now, plus getting my laptop and stuff.
the rest of the day will be spent showering, eating and sewing a bag since i need money and my boss won't schedule me enough. time for a new job maybe.

last session with scott today. it was a good one though. he's had a big effect on the way i play footbag and it will suck to play only by myself this summer.
we both notably hit blurry drift>void>pdx torque, though it was much more of an accomplishment for me. it's a similar combo to what i tried for sick3 at nyfa (vertigo>void>ptorque) so it felt good to hit it. i also remember scott hitting blurry torque>whirling rake in a run with a bunch of 5's too. i hit pdx drift>blurry drift bsos which was also good.
some bags should be posted for sale soon, and i'm considering doing another run of t-shirts with a design that I think is really cool.

played today and hit a lot that is worth my noting:
void>void
both ps whirls
both pdx flails
vertigo>fog bsos
pdx blender bsos
fog>dim>rpt
duck butter x19
69
sumo>leg>rpt
spin osis>merkon>pix ss clip>rpt
symp swirl>butter>rpt
vortex bsos
quite good for one 45 minute session.

whatup. I'm busy with college right now, but really hopeful about my chances to go to worlds this year--which has brought me back to footbag.
Mr. clavens recently suggested we play once a week which is why I'll be playing tomorrow, for the first time in a while.
Also starting my worlds fun with stitching... here's what I've got so far..
