response 3:
I can't hear what you are saying. So could you write it down in a letter and mail it to the editor of [insert newspaper here]. I will only respond if you do so. Also could you give me all your personal information while you are at it. I want to be sure I am responding to the appropriate person.
Again I can't hear you unless you send a letter to someone else first. Thanks for not trying to solicit a response here in a public forum. I can only read text that is in a letter to an editor with all your personal info included.
Responses here will not be read.
Thanks again!
Edit: "You may also post your letter in this topic if you like, and if you do that I'll respond in this topic as well. Failure to comply with the procedures outlined will result in a failure to respond on my behalf." Just to clarify again.
Sharing info and opinions with others - good and bad ways
Matt you've taken those arguments completely out of context. Your second response is paraphrasing things I only say when responding to people making personal attacks or insults. Yeah I'm not very tolerant of that. Show me somebody on this forum who is. I would argue that I'm probably much better at dealing with them then most people. Perhaps there are exceptions, but if you find one, go and look at the context. I think we can all agree that I respond differently to different things.
Consider for example the most heated I've been recently;
I post up an idea of a list of records that are on video. I say that I'm not the best person to do it, but that I'm willing to help. How many response to I get? 0
I decide it's a great idea anyway, and that I'll make time to do it. I spend a few hours creating the project and running it. Then somebody comes in and says that they thought it was a great project but now they see that it was only a vehicle for my ego, I get compared to Hitler and face a bunch of personal attacks.
I respond in what could be considered a harsh manner (although go ahead and read exactly how I did respond).
Best response I could have made? Probably not. Completely different situation to the one you've just mentioned? Definitely. Understandable? Definitely.
The reason I'm the subject of this topic is because I have no fear of calling people out when they say silly things or when they make personal attacks. I've always been like that and people have been slowly holding grudges over it, even though I clearly also at times say really silly things and make personal attacks. But of course rather than just pointing it out when I do the same thing, these people's only response is to make further personal attacks.
Here's an idea. Print out the entire MJ discussion and show it somebody, and ask for their opinion. Preferably somebody who you don't know how they feel about the issue at all, and you should say as little as possible about the discussion, your own opinions or the people in the discussion, and of course it should be somebody who doesn't know any of us (apart from obviously you). If you can't be bothered doing that, read through that topic yourself and try to predict what they'd say. Don't answer this based on your perceptions of the topic, actually go through it again now and read each post word for word.
Who should be attacked for their poor communication skills?

First of all i may well be the least qualified to make this post, as im new here, but what the hell, I am here, its the internet and Id like my say.
Jeremy, you stated "The reason I'm the subject of this topic" which, according to the OP is not the case, nor have i found that to be mentioned. Matt even goes on to try and get the thread back on topic by asking for comments about his OP at least twice. Its my personal opinion that if your taking all this to heart, then thats your own doing.
I am not saying that the OP was not written as a direct result of any comments you made, as I cannot speak for Matt, but it is certainly my opinion that the OP was kept generic, and not directed at one person in particular.
I joined this forum because i believed id found a solid community of like minded individuals who could help me as a footbagger, provide moments of off-topic conversation to help me while away my time, and to generally make some new friends. I cannot help get this feeling though that I may have joined a community where a few posters seem intent on trying to tear each other a new one.
Within any group of people, there will always be differences of opinions that cannot be changed, and I think the bigger man will be the one who agrees to disagree and leave it there.
Again, as a newbie here im not entirely sure my comments will be welcome, so make of them what you will.

There are like, 3 or 4 assholes on the forum. If you use the "ignore" feature, the forums become much better.WyrmFyre wrote:I joined this forum because i believed id found a solid community of like minded individuals who could help me as a footbagger, provide moments of off-topic conversation to help me while away my time, and to generally make some new friends.
