The 50 Book Challenge 2009
Hey Boyle what did you think of No Logo? A few people have recommended it to me, although they are hardcore socialists, but I haven't read it yet and am unsure if I want to. Based on the people who have recommended it to me, I'm worried that it will take a simplistic view of economics and argue that large corporations are the root of all evil? What do you think about those fears and do you think it's worth a read?

I think your fears are well founded, however I think the book looks at both sides of the picture. It is not completely based on economics, but how the world has become almost completely branded, and it looks at what people are doing in anti-corporate movements, it also looks at the negative effects of what these people are doing.
I found it to be quite a good read. I was mainly interested in the section covering what is happening in the anti-corporate world (although the book is 10 years old now, so some of it is a bit dated), but it was good to read about some different zines and DIY street parties on highways, this sort of thing. The main chapters of the book are about how branding has taken up more and more of our space and our lives, then the final chapters are about what is being done against this.
I found the book to be quite well-rounded, and less of a "look at all these corporate evils" etc than I was expecting. That being said corporations like Nike, Disney and The Gap don't come out of the book looking so flash.

I am way falling behind on reading. Just too much going on I guess. Snow Crash was a really good read - it was definitely similar to Gibson's Neuromancer, which I also liked. You can check out my review for it here.
