Ok so it's 2:30am and I've been drinking since 1pm, so I feel that I have an excuse for posting here. Also I need to rant about something, and this is the only place that is moderately safe from the rest of my life.

A little back story. Last year our touch football team, which I'm the coach of, was really desperate for girls (mixed) so I convinced this girl, who I thought was a really cool chick and got on well with to play. She played a few games, played well, and then we briefly hooked up, which I was fine with, in fact I think I posted about it here somewhere to say how cool it was. Anyway for some reason I suck (I do have a few theories, but who knows who trawls through my posts months after I write them...) and she totally broke off all contact with me after that. Whatever, I can get over that shit.

My rant today is that we have 4 really committed girls on my team, plus my poor rep regarding this girl. I have a massive crush on one of those girls, and the last couple of days we've been flirting like mad etc. Anyway today I find out the other girl is apparently madly in love with me. This means that there is a high percentage of me fucking things up, and ending up losing both girls from my touch football team, let alone all kinds of other pressures.

This is the kind of incestuous confusing shit that makes me stay away from girls who are already a part of my life (don't get me started on this subject).

This kind of sounds like I'm saying I'd rather have a good touch football team than a girlfriend. This is not the case at all, but it's rather both at once, and I don't know. It's just shit, especially since this is a team of all my friends, and they already give me shit about the last girl, if I fuck things up again (which is fairly inevitable when we're talking about me with girls) then I'll feel bad etc.

Ok so I am really drunk. Chrome has a good spell checker so it might not be as obvious as it should be. I can't pretend this post is rational or meaningful. I just don't want to be in one of those social circles where everybody has slept with everybody, I don't want my touch football team to collapse due to me fucking things up, and I'm too drunk to know what the right decision is.

Random other news. I'm in epic good form in touch footy. In mens I've set up 6 out of 9 touch downs. In mixed I've scored 5 and set up 7 out of 16. Not that our teams have been doing particularly well, but we have a lot of potential :P

In uni I've smashed my first two exams and have two more. For the first - classical lit. There is no minimum result needed on the exam, and I'm going in to it on 45%, so I need to pick up another 5% on the exam to pass the subject (out of 50%). For geology I'm going in with 41.6% out of 50%, but I need to get at least 45% (out of 100% of the exam) on the exam - which is 22.5% of your final mark. Which means at the minimum I will get a credit (although obviously higher is fairly likely). This annoys me slightly, as it's a multiple choice exam and if weren't for the minimum exam requirement, I could actually randomly guess the answers on the exam and statistically expect to pass. The kind of poor reflection on me is that if I had that option, I actually would do it, just for the lulz.

So I have exams on Monday and Tuesday. Tomorrow (Saturday), I'm going fishing all day. Sunday I may study a little, but then I have touch football state cup training. So I'm basically just going to wing it for both exams. Whatever, I'm sure my results will be fine :P

Step One : Sober Up :D

Step Two : Come back when your sober and read through your post again. I might be wrong but you sort of answered yourself when you said
I just don't want to be in one of those social circles where everybody has slept with everybody, I don't want my touch football team to collapse due to me fucking things up, and I'm too drunk to know what the right decision is.
Step Three : Sit back, safe in the knowledge that you decided that long term friends were better than (prospectively) short term partners and celebrate by drinking some more beer.

Hello again, by the way, long time no see!

Amusing touch football anecdote.

So played last night in the rain. I had to ref the game before too, so I was a little grumpy. Game starts and we won the toss so I take the tap. I pretty much just go straight to make the touch but the defender next to mine starts going backwards, which means we can make some easy ground for free. I step my player and attack her instead. She laughs and says; "trying to be tricky." This irks me a little. I step her, step the guy next to her, step the winger, step the guy next to the mouthy girl again (he turned his back on me), step the girl again, dive and score. Terrible defence because they all just kept running backwards and gave me a lot of room. I get up and say;

"This speech is my recital. I think it's very vital, to rock a rhyme that's right on time. It's tricky is the title."

*Didn't actually say anything at the end except for "how's that for tricky?" to one of my team mates because I wasn't thinking, but the story is better if I bust out some Run DMC (as are all stories), so I'm going to go with that anyway :P

Awesome session busking with Lotus today. Made $136.90, 6 cents Canadian and 1 UK pound. Played really well too. Felt good. Lotus made about $300 selling footbags. Been playing pool after our Saturday sessions lately. The scores so far are 18 Lotus, 1 me. I'm not too bad at pool, but Lotus is a shark.

Another good session. Made $143.50, which is pretty good. Played really well. Definitely feeling stronger and fitter - have been having a few sessions during the week and doing other exercise too, so starting to get fit :). Strong side pdx blender is finally becoming a reliable busking move - I don't know what my drop percentage on it is, but I feel confident that I'm going to hit it when I try it - usually moves like that at the end of a long run, but I've been hitting a few links with it too. I'd guess with the moves I consider "busking" moves, the hit percentage in actual runs is much higher than 90% anyway. I probably only drop at the end of half my runs, and almost never when there's a lot of people watching. Of course I often don't play guiltless when I'm busking, so it's not as impressive as it sounds :P

Also a much bigger highlight was winning a game of pool afterwards. We ended up playing 8 games so the score now is 25 vs 2. Still it was a good win. For Lotus' last shot, he had 2 shots but there didn't seem to be anyway he could sink his last ball. He made some comment about making what I thought was an impossible shot and I thought he was joking (basically a crazy side spin shot around two of my balls to cut his in, with the white stuck up against the cushion and on the side of the table that is too close to the wall, so you have to use a mini stick). After apparently changing his mind, I managed to convince him to go for that shot, on a $10 bet at 1:10 odds. Of course he fucks it up, because it was basically impossible, gives me two shots. I sink my 4 balls that are remaining and then the black and win the game (without using my second shot). The black was a really tough shot, and he had his last ball in the pocket too, so I was pretty stoked (also at ending his 20 game winning streak :P) Shortly after that he pants me, although the pub was basically empty so only the bartender noticed what I was doing :P In the game where I was pants though, I only had two shots, both hard, and when I missed the second, Lotus had only sunk one ball, so I don't think it's a big indictment on my game.

Also finally let me say (and I know that only like 3 or 4 people will understand this, but whatever). Shane Watson.

That's probably unfair of me, he's done really well for himself for a retard.

I talk myself up and then some random guy posts a video on youtube and proves me wrong  In my defence, this is right at the start of the day when I've just chugged half a litre of redbull, am still a tiny bit hungover and am mainly just trying to avoid chundering. Anyway enough excuses - 4 minutes of raw busking footage from a random guy who was watching. Maybe next week I'll bring my camera along and film a little.

Well, I am glad to see a little more of Lotus. I've been an admirer of his style for several years now, ever since I first found his own web-site promoting the bags he sewed. He used to have a handful of short clips of himself playing on that web-site, and I immediately liked what he was doing, like an unusually high-skilled version of old-school hacky-sack style. Anybody who does lots of jumping kicks (and eclipses) and unusual surface tricks is alright with me. He changed his web-site and took the videos down a long time ago, and I wrote to him and asked him about them, and he e-mailed me back with the videos attached, but I couldn't get them to play, so its been a very long time since I've seen anything of his at all. Thanks for linking them here, and tell him I said G'day.

Oh, and I'm also very glad to see you around here as well, Jer.

In the past couple of years Lotus' game has gone in leaps and bounds. Along with all the hack style tricks he's added in a bunch of sets and tricks like dlo, making the runs have a bunch of variety. I hope to see a Lotus routine at this coming nationals.

I always like to play with Lotus as it makes you think outside the square, try some totally new ideas and concepts. Top bloke.

Thanks Jon. I've barely been here though. I think almost all my posts are when I'm drunk, apart from the mycology topic. Stuff like that is way cooler than talking about footbag. Although my obsession at the moment is birds. There are nearly 200 different species of birds on the island I live on, so I'm trying to photograph them all. So far I only have about 10 good photos, but I've learned to recognise all of those and what they are. Also I haven't bothered with the really common birds - blackbirds, starlings, seagulls etc. - so there's some easy ones to collect when I can be bothered. From my bedroom window there are two species of bird that I see regularly - yellow wattlebirds (Anthochaera paradoxa) and little wattlebirds (Anthochaera chrysopetra). I've also seen (and photographed well today) silvereyes (Zosterops lateralis) a lot recently. There's a very tiny bird, that is presumably one of the three species of thornbill (Acanthiza sp.) in Tasmania, but I really can't be sure until I photograph one, that hangs around a bit. I also hear ravens, presumably forest ravens (Corvus tasmanicus, and spotted turtle doves (Streptopelia chinensis), but I don't see them very often. Right now, at 11:50pm I just heard a masked lapwing (Vanellus miles). So yeah, I can see/hear a fair few birds without even getting out of bed :P

Re; Lotus, yeah he's heaps of fun to play with. I've been training him up on standard freestyle moves a lot too. It's great having somebody to play with. This was a short video I made of him playing early this year, which was basically shot in however long it goes for.

http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/-16410

It was a really cool kick that day though - it was pissing down with rain, but we found an indoor cafe that was packing up and they let us move all their tables and chairs away and play in the spot where we're playing. I filmed for a few minutes just to make a video to send to some marketing people.

Let me know if it doesn't work and I guess I'll youtube it :P I can't stress enough how lazy I am though, so you're more likely to get to watch it if you can get it to work :P

Saw a snake today :)

Image

White lipped snake. Drysdalia coronoides. Very cool. Snakes are very awesome, I wish I saw more of them. Despite the reputation, basically no snakes in Australia are really particularly dangerous unless you either don't notice the bite or are unable to (or in rare cases involving dumb hippies, choose not to) get medical attention. On average 1.6 people die every year from snake bites in Australia. In contrast nearly 10 people die each year from bee stings. Indeed the same pretty much applies all around the world. Snake bites only kill large numbers of people in places that are too poor to be able to get fast medical attention. In Australia you can have a helicopter with the anti-venom landing at the bite site within a couple of hours.

Don't hurt the snake! Put it down
gently, gently nice.
Now the iron.
The gun.
Down, down. Turn around.
Looks like l've got myself some gasoline, eh?

Booby-trap! Back up!
Oh, you crafty little man, you!
You're quick, very quick.
Never seen a man beat the snake before. Who are you?
Reflexes that's what you've got.
Me l've got brains.

(I've been waiting a long time to say something like that here in yer blog... Thanks for finally giving me the right opportunity)
