Going to Hamilton, Canada!

Post by larni »

I am a footbag player from austria and i am taking part on a student exchange program to study one year from september 2009 til juni 2010 in Hamilton at McMasters university. I am really looking forward to it and I am searching for footbag players in the surroundings. I already found out that there are some rather big footbag clubs (compared to austria) in toronto so there must be players and shredding places!

It would be great if some of you would answer my post and help me a little bit to prepare myself for canada! For example, where are the best (cheapest) places for off-campus living in hamilton (or should i stay on-campus)? Where are shredding places (indoor and outdoor)? Is there anybody in hamilton playing footbag or do i have to travel to toronto?

Of course I will attend the Worlds in Berlin and maybe we meet each other there! By the way, do you know cheap flights from toronto to europe?

See you in Berlin!
Finally i have registered - after a looong long period of only reading modified...

I was an exchange student who went to Mainz, Germany. Thus, my German is definetly conversational and I'd love to kick, and speak with you!

Well, I can tell you that the cheapest places around the University, are also the places that you'll have to walk/bus the furthest, and they will not have easy footbag access. If it is within your budget, check out http://www.mainwestvillage.ca/index.htm . This is the building I live in, which is about 13 minutes walk / 3 minute bike from the middle of the campus. If that is out of your range, I can tell you the places I looked at before I decided on this, and why. But seriously, this place is THE best to go. It is a huge apartment complex rented only to McMaster students, but you're not on campus with the staff watching you behave like you are a child. If you are going in first year, of course you will meet more people if you do live on Campus, but it is hard to get into campus residences if you are in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year.

All footbag locations will be answered once you come here, but yeah, if you are in a house off campus winter shred space is hard to find.

I've kicked with the Vienna Crew, and so has Hamilton's biggest star...Jorden Moir.

Yeah, you're going to University 10 minutes away, from Jorden Moir. You better believe it.

Also, 30 minutes away, is Johnny Suderman, also a Canadian footbag hero.

You couldn't have picked a better location.

ok! the university just had told me, that i am accepted and i got a student id! my flight goes on september the 1st with the very cheap iclandair via reykjavik (flight goes for 11 hours with 7hours break in reykjavik! - maybe a short icland shred! anybody motivated?).
Hopefully I get accomodation in the westvillage apartments, which i have applied some time ago.
All the time i am seeying flavio writing on facebook how cool it is in canada and i really envy him for this!

So see you all soon in hamilton! I hope that university does not take too much of my time for footbag and travelling around.
