i would if you'd ever freaking visit as you promised to do
did one night stint at funtastiks. had a load of fun shredding with ryan thomas. whupped his ass in net too. not really. jay boychuck is very skilled as well. seeing jonathan is always great. catching up with peter and vince and everyone else was awesome. long chat with brenda, she's top shelf nice. great camping with brian and dawn and abby, i'm super lucky to have them living right in my own town.
and, i shredded pretty decently for just shaking rust off. got good advice

It's cool you went to Funtastiks. I really wanted to go, but the Beaver Open was obviously much more convenient for me. Kenny says hi.
Congratulations on the shred barn. Even with all the pictures and updates, I doubt anyone on this site can truly appreciate the intitiative, knowledge and hard work that went in to building your personal play place. It made me a little sad that I left the state without ever having seen the shred barn in person. Keep up the good work. Maybe I'll see you at an event somewhere, sometime.

yo mr bevier, i'm trying to convince the wife that I should go to an event way west coast at some point, so you never know. and, of course, you're on the short list of friends that don't even need an invitation to come stay.
edit: scott, your impression of how much effort it really took, and knowledge etc. I think it's right on, very perceptive of you, and I take it as a nice compliment. Thank you very much for noticing.
tell kenny i said hi back

genz told me that i could be pretty ok at this game, need to spend an hour every day pushing my comfort zone. i trust his opinion on the topic and am motivated. therefore, shredded an hour today.
pdx whirl first time ever, some quantum sets, some atomic, weak spins, stepping to stepping. basically everything that's uncomfortable.
btw, my daughter just announced she will be a princess for halloween. she's 2 years old and it was cute
after shredding, lifted. more clap pushups, and pushups where i come up and go to one hand and the other arm is extended towards the ceiling. if that makes sense. planks, tripods, situps, dips, curls. stuff like that. weighed in at 211, will be in the 190's before you know it, you'll see

ahhhhhh, back to my shred barn last night. thank goodness. vacations are fun and good for the mind etc. but there's no place like home, and there's nothing like being in your normal routine.
shredded for an hour again. that's a long time to play solo, but i think in a few weeks it will feel natural. it's really a work out. i'm totally gassed at the end. especially since i do all my pushups etc. afterwards.
no highlights really except
- some inspinning toe stalls on both sides. i've always liked inspinning, but it doesn't make sense to me. so inspinning toe is considered a win in my book.
- 4 b2b pixie ss mirages. that works my weak toe on one side and my weak mirage dex on the other.
- one minute's worth of doing leg lifts (on your back, legs out straight, heels about 3 inches from the floor, hold it) is easy now. time to try for 2 minutes. also need to increase the weight on my arm exercises.

Where did you go for vacation?
As for inspinning, what I found helped me more than anything was just focusing on planting that set foot as fast as possible. Just *bam*, put it down immediately. You might also want to try playing into them with osis, but the main idea still holds: plant that set foot as fast as you can. It's almost like a stomping DLO in that sense.
More vids soon?

hey ken - we were in ocean city MD for a few days, and otherwise just had some down time at our house. it was a great mental break for sure.
you're right, osis to inspinning would make sense as you're learning. i will try that, thanks!
vids.. probably not that soon. I need a new lens to be able to take video in my shred room (I think I need a wide angle lens because I can't get the camera far enough away.. it chops off from my chest upward) and there's so many things coming together right now, it might be better to just wait awhile.
although I'll try to make one day of east coasts (was going to ask you about possible crash space options)
--
shredded only for 45 minutes last night. i was exhausted from vacation, really hard workout the night before. but not bad. I'll take tonight off from kicking, and do another hour practice tomorrow night. lots of little improvements on all sorts of things. i really want to go from being a good player to being a great player. i don't think i can dedicate the time, and may not have enough talent or energy anyways, to being an elite player, but i think i can get to a level above where I'm at now. compared to the entire footbag population, I think that'd be a pretty decent place to reach. maybe i'm delusional though, i have trouble getting good reads from anyone as to where my game is today

hey mr. c thanks for stopping in. without being overly bromantic, right back at you. you know where you're staying next time you have reason to visit philly
anyhow, i read what you wrote right before i went to shred, and i got pumped to take some vid. one vid is in the one shot challenge thread, and the other one is right here

Very nice Bob! That's some of the best stuff I've seen of you ever. You just look more efficient and controlled than I've seen you before.
One thing I noticed is that your arm motions are different on your strong and flip spin. On strong you're very good about keeping elbows in and arms tight at your sides, and the spin looks great. On flip you kind of poke both your elbows out behind you, which is slowing you down. Try and emulate your arm motion from your strong spin, and that should be a big improvement. I had a similar issue with my flip spins, and once Erik Chan pointed it out to me, my flip spins got waaaaay better almost overnight.
I'd love to see regular vids. It's such an easy and efficient way to track your progress.

had a ramp up session with brian, meaning i was able to turn recent practice into breakthroughs, so that was cool. also, this was my first sesh in the finished space (first non-solo sesh i mean) - brian really liked the space which made me feel good about it.
btw, it's cool that brian and i have become good friends. it's so much better when your footbag practice partner is also a buddy.
- comfortably footed mobius a couple times out of 5 tries. those were my first 5 tries ever, i'm sure i'll hit it in my next practice
- several runs over 25 contacts or so, and i was very happy to keep the bop ratio lower than the recent vid above. i'm just getting more technical and consistent on a lot of stuff.
- good both sidedness
- good focus on weakside stepping set (namely, trying to mimic my strongside more closely) thanks to nathan pointing out that it wasn't looking like my strong side.
- a couple midrun atomic mirages (strongside only though)
- i think i can midrun barfly on the one side now, also pdx whirl on that side too. as run starters, they feel good, and my first couple midrun tries ever went nicely (though I missed or only hand caught)
- ken's excellent observation on weakside spin has (as he said it would) immediately had a positive affect. i think spins will be same on both sides quickly
- hit a gryo dlo which shouldn't be that rare for me, so i'll start doing it more
- i can hit strong pixie dlo at will now it seems as long as i'm not dog tired
shred practice tonight followed by lifting etc.. my heaters and final electrical hookup details were completed on saturday, so i'm all ready for winter. no more shred heat tent for this guy.

i am gassssssssssed at the end of practice/lifting. 1 hour of shred, 30 minutes of pushups/situps/arms (and similar).
highlights tonight
- ken fixed my weakside spin
- nathan may have mostly fixed my weakside stepping set
- i figured out my arms
- weakside pixie paradon (1st time)
- strong and weak pdx whirls (1st time on weakside)
- weak pixie ss dlo (the dlo is strong, pixie is weakside... 1st time)

I'm on a business trip this week, and the hotel I'm staying at gives me two free drinks at the hotel bar every night. There were something like 5 TVs in the bar, and they were all showing the Colts-Dolphins game. I never watch football, so as I was sitting there drinking my beers, I tried to figure out which team to cheer for. I initially picked the Dolphins, based solely on the fact that on their helmets they have a dolphin... who is also wearing a helmet.
But then I remembered that you play QB for the Colts, so I rooted for them instead.
Dig the shred brother. Everything looks real nice and controlled. Smooth links, and not a lot of floundering around to grab stalls or make dexes. Good flow from one trick to the next makes the strings look deliberate and styley as opposed to fast and frantic.
The spins make me want to take a nap because they are so damn casual. Haha.
Keep it up. Always enjoy checking out some Riefer-shred.

yay mattbeal! thanks so much for giving me some feedback, you know i value your opinion. we MUST shred when I'm in the area around christmas. let me know about that.
nathan, you fixed my stepping because you noticed it. i could feel it being different, but i thought it was just me. but you could see it, so now i can really focus on it. oh, and thanks for the props - I'm traditionally not the guy to hit new triple dexes or new tricks in general. but I've been saying to brian for awhile now that I think all the foundation and weakside work will begin to allow me to make some breakthroughs.
---
tried to practice last night. fucking cold is bothering the hell out of me, so it quickly became apparent that i would only make it like 20 minutes. also, i bruised the ball of my left foot and it's hurting like a mo fo. anyways, I therefore warmed up (btw, new b2b osis record for me = 18 in a row) and forced myself to do a one shot challenge even though I knew it would be a boring warm up string, and that I'd have to post it right after bustin justin's sick run. oh well, even my good runs won't get props in that thread, so who gives a fuck
ha ha. whatever.
taking tonight off from kicking to build my son's bike that we got him for his 4th birthday (which was yesterday) and to heal up a little. hoping to really shred hard on thursday as this weekend will be dedicated to family and birthday party (i.e. no kicking... but we WILL have a firetruck at our house.. we made a donation, so they bring a truck over and let the kids sound the siren, try on the gear etc.)
