Two drawings I did over the weekend.

Both are from life and photo reference. Basically laid out from life and values from photo.

18 x 24, in graphite.

Here are a couple more drawings. First is in Graphite and Gouache and the second in charcoal. Both are skewed a little bit and the graphite one is a little shiny. They were in weird positions and hard to photograph, but I did my best.

I really like the second one Zac! Great use of shadows! It gives it the illusion that all you should really be able to see is the guys nose and tongue!

This is a shoe taken apart, on a piece of foam board.

The next is a shoe and a couch cushion taken apart, displayed and fused with a piece of foam board. There are a few pictures of the second.

I wish I had some pictures of our room. It is pretty interesting.

Nice Zac. Don't be afraid to shade in the whites of her eyes a bit. Remember that they're spheres.

I went to Portfolio Day today in Cleveland and talked to SMFA Boston, Pratt Institute, New Hampshire Institute of Art, and SAIC.

SMFA Boston was real cool, I love the program and the guy gave me a lot of good instruction on what to include and what to expand on when I apply.

The lady at Pratt really rushed me and was pretty annoying. Didn't really see me as a person. Extremely impersonal and I hated it.

I didn't really know anything bout the New Hampshire school but I love that area of the country so I figured I'd check out the desk. I had a real long talk with the lady and she was real receptive and ended the conversation with, "Thanks a lot for stopping by Danny, I love your stuff. I can tell you right now if you apply you will be accepted and I am writing a strong recommendation for a merit scholarship as well."

!!!

And I had a reaaaallllyy long talk with a rep from SAIC. He scanned my work and spent most of his time asking me questions and really trying to know my positions on stuff. Talking to him was like having an art theory lesson right there. I honestly learned stuff about myself I'd never really realized. He ended the conversation pretty much the same way saying that if I applied I would automatically be accepted and that if I worked on the stuff he mentioned in our talk and turned it in by Feb 15 my stuff would be competitive in the merit scholarship hand outs.

I went to the Portfolio Day not really having any idea what it was gonna be and left with acceptance to two colleges.

Yeah, portfolio days are great. The only one that I went to was in Sophomore year, I learned a lot about what I needed to do.

So have you actually sent in applications? You may want to research more than just the portfolio days - I know that my school's admissions counselors (they're usually the ones manning the tables) are definitely not a good representation of the staff at KCAI.

I don't really want to plug my own school, but KCAI would be a great choice as well as New Hampshire and Chicago. They have one of the best freshman programs in the country.

My art teacher from High School attended Chicago, KCAI, and some other random art school during college. The only one he really talks about is KCAI, but he has good things to say about all of them.

So yeah, congratulations on your acceptances. I hope they lead you somewhere good.

I kinda like the third panel on the last page. It's all metaphorical. It's like... I specifically coloured over her so that it's just the easel and painting, which kind of says, like, that one is just a vessel for the creation of art... do you know what I mean? Like, the art itself defies its medium.

Thanks Zac, I'm really excited about it. I haven't officially applied anywhere yet but what Chicago and New Hampshire said is that I will automatically be accepted once I do and that the portfolio I send in in feb. will only affect scholarships.

I'm planning on touring in the next few months those three schools.

Erik I love that, I'm going to show it to my friend who is really into graphic novels. Do you have a flickr? I would love to see it.

Was thinking the same as Zeke also.

Only crit I could have was I found it a little difficult to work out what she was looking at when she looked at her partner, too much like abstract shapes. Pretty small crit, everything else is perfect
