Time to rebuild my game it seems. The analogy that is in my head is something that wont be unfamiliar to those who have read any self-help books, and how to get good at something. If your foundation is ok, you could say build two stories of house on top of it. If your foundation is solid, you could build 5 stories on top of it. If your foundation was Vasek+Juho+Vanilla, you could be a formidable opponent for architects in Dubai.
There is no better time for me to do this than now, when I wait for my back to be 100% again. I better stick with it, and take advantage of the opportunity.
I'm having a hell of a time writing three paragraphs, and then deleting them all. I hate my inner conscience / lack of confidence when it comes to describing my thoughts or feelings about the game. Like, is it so bad to say "Suddenly symp whirling swirls were easy today, even though one week ago I was confused?"... I think I wrote that in 4 ways before I just spit it out here, and that irritates me. The dilemma of explaining the theories behind it, how it will affect the rest of my game, etc, just rushes all through my head.
I think I remember hearing some statistic a while ago, that the average male thinks about sex / women / that topic every ___ seconds / minutes / hours each day. I find it odd, that my head is truly on footbag mode for the backburner, and then it seems other thoughts, like cooking / school / work / females and their thumbs are the pieces that find their place every once in a while. Like, when you have footbag posters in your room, every day you wear lavers + tournament shirts, most of your social life IS footbag related, and the reason you wake up and go to work is so you can pay for tournaments...Well, I guess it has been my life(style) for a year or two now. Going to sleep thinking of 4 minute strings of new links and complete genuine play is often what I spend in the bed-time before and after I sleep. I like playing that game on a daily basis. Air shredding these combo's while in line at the grocery store, or waiting on a coworker while at work.
I love the feeling that even though for 300 days of the year when not with footbaggers, I am a no-body+official receiver of weird looks, but with the other few weeks I am completely at home+piece with the coolest people on the planet.
I played in Lavers today.

Well, to start drilling the basics, I picked up a 4 panel, and my quantums for the last sessions, and did basics. I guess this was a poor decision for my dear friend, namely Mr. "QL", in my lower back. I'd like to address him now, and offer a peace treaty. I'll forever play in Gunits, leave the Quantums to collect dust with their poor support, if you heal yourself before I have to play in public again. I'll give little school girls strawberries, handpicked and grown for the next 6 harvests. In fact, I'd find the cure for depressed Panda's, who aren't eager to procreate. Just please, Mr. QL, I've stretched you everyday, holding each one for a minute or more straight. I've tried eagerly to fix my lower back posture, as Aaron Orton suggested and haven't slipped. I've switched pillows, given up twidling my thumbs in counter directions, and even bought a Mac to see if Steve Jobs would send a bit of love your way. Please, for the love of Moses, fix me oh bitchy one. Just stop bleeding out, it can't ALWAYS be your time of the month. Give it a rest, trust me, if you halt your escapade to ruin my life, I'll treat you with Vanillia cookie and banana pudding baths every second Thursday of April, July and September.
SO yeah. I've got a small 'gig' with my hometown to do a kids camp with footbag. Just go up, do a routine, requests, whatever. If I can't bust ATW's and far osis without any pain, ooh, I'd love everyone.
I think also something that is contributing to my pain, is my work boots / environment. 8->12 hour shifts of standing on steel toe+sole boots, and working over your head with air tools and torches all day. Ugh, two more weeks...Two more weeks...
Erm, highlight? I hit some cool inspinning things. Yay Corn Niblets.

The 'gig' I did went decently. Kids liked it, and I actually entertained the group for 2.5 hours, straight. Started it by introducing me, what footbag was, and then showed them some stuff. Explained why this was different than that, etc. I allowed questions throughout, so that I could catch breath or whatever as needed. They were pretty intelligent 12 year olds, so I also explained (when asked) a bit more about the mental part of footbag, and how to learn quickly from your mistakes and whatnot, and then I explained how you could apply it to other areas of life. I then demonstrated by telling someone in the audience to pick any random word, then I'd associate it with a trick name, and then try and hit a very new trick, *within my reach* and then show them how I learned from my mistakes. The one kid said "New York City" and well, I had to pick Big apple. I've never tried any prefix symp torque moves before, ever, and never really hit symp torque much...Anyway, I hit strongside in three tries, and then I showed them how belaboring it can be to hit weak side, which probably took 15 tries or so. It felt good to hit a new symp move.
I also got the kids involved a bit, and had them learn toe stall and inside stall, as well as some kicks. Some learned pretty quick. When that was done, I explained how fundamental it is to learn the basics really well, because this trick (mirage) needs to have a good toe stall to end. Then smear, showing the toe stall, then smog, and then I hit alpine smog second try. I think they grasped that concept, which was cool.
For whatever reason I felt like since 99% of those kids wouldn't stick with footbag, even if they did buy a bag, I could teach them more life lessons on how to get good at whatever they do, be it Piano, or Rugby. So I related footbag, and the lessons I've learned with reality as best I could. I also explained how failure is, in some light, a good thing. I showed them that by dropping 21903 times, you do improve and eventually can notice a huge progress, even if you don't feel like you got better. I explained that having a concrete goal is nice, and that when you go for it, a bit of failure isn't to be unexpected.
Man big apple feels badass. My symp torques don't scoop at all, which is why I think I like the feeling so much.

Thanks Adam! And, I am going to be in Hamilton 99% of the time from now until next April, instead of scattered across the GTA.
I felt like posting that I hit pixie ss eggbeater*5 today.
Otherwise, I feel like all areas of my game are degenerating. I'm sure many of you know the feeling, where once you are well into a series of tricks to drill, the other areas fall behind. That annoys me greatly.
New room mates just walked in. This is going to be awkward. Turns out both are from the middle east, and are first years. Hope they don't like to party. Ugh.
I hope Larni enjoys Hamilton, I think if he wants I'd enjoy showing him around town, since he likely wont know his way around and whatnot. Maybe get some German groceries and whatnot.

Funtastik #1, finished with interesting memories.
Let me begin this post by saying, I was bringing two of my long-term friends down for the tournament, since they both wanted to see what an event was like. As this event was at a hotel, and not at a players house I felt decently comfortable in the idea of them coming. Honestly, I knew it would be very similar in comparison to when footbaggers bring their girlfriend's to tournaments, in that their attention is divided, and they don't get the "best" of either world. However, as one of the dozen (or so) tournaments of 2009, I figured I've gotten my selfish fix.
Rather than write about all the event matters in a sequential order of what I actually experienced, I'll begin with Saturday onward, where footbag actually began.
1.) It would appear as if shred had happened the entire day of Saturday, where net was located somewhere in Harrisburg. I remark of this in this way because I had thought it would just be net, and that my friends and I would have a better time going to a mall, seeing a movie (gamer). I practiced my routine, and made a shred 30 for the event for about 3 hours from 2->5:00 pm, as I had signed up for both of those events the day before. I had never done a shred 30, never planned one, and never cared about the event in a sizable way...However it proved to be a good exercise in mental ability I believe. Not making it too hard, including bails exactly where needed, and truly thinking about your playing level so you can perform the best are things I learned from routines. However, one thing I did not learn was how to shuffle for 30 seconds, with one try.
My first attempt, ever at a full shred 30 was for qualification. My first 6 tricks went as planned, and then I lost my balance. Pixie bail-> Oh shit. I immediately went for the butterfly, then the bail to the bail to regain my thinking, and then realized I was many a move away from my plan, tried to get back up on the horse to finish the 30 as planned..But all was lost. My saving grace however was that I went dropless, so I made it to finals with a decent seating. The biggest problem I faced here was simple inexperience. Really playing with a cold head as Milan puts it, or pure "tora" as Vasek puts it is what someone needs during shred 30. Get up there, block out the world and play to your average ability with no distractions.
I fixed my problem the next day for Finals shred 30, by when I bailed I simply went to my next move, and continued. When I bailed again, I went to my next section, and moved on. No massive repeats, low adds etc. Just what I needed. I imagine my score probably doubled, but still would end up well below 200. I think my goal for my next shred 30 is to truly prepare it, months in advance and map out all the combinations of bails and their recoveries. The awesome part about this, is I could utilize the very possible, consistent and dense drills in circle contest as well, where being solid and cold headed really is an important factor. Man I suck at circle. So yeah, the idea is to do shred 1:00's, where I will do my shred 30 2 times in a row until I'm twice as exhausted as I should be. This way I could map out my most likely bails or drops, find the hard spots in other drills and really power through them. I think I will enjoy shred 30 at my next event, since I will really be playing against myself.
I played with Ryan Thomas for the first time on Saturday night, and he was a neat individual. You can tell he has 7 years of footbag in him, with spices of "fun" in his ingredients compilation. This really was evident because every run he tried new things, had lots of Gyro tricks, rarely see shuffle, and had nice delays every time. At a different level of course, but Nick Landes can come to mind when you think of cool combo's, long delays and just having fun with the footbag. I imagine my circle vibe couldn't have made him enthusiastic about any of this, since I feel as if I play with a very different mindset as him. I enjoyed it though, and I also liked the pressure I got from him to do some more longer runs. I had far less "try big link, fail, pass bag" with him than when I was playing with anyone else in the weekend. symple drifter bitches.
Also in that circle, I played with Mr. Goode, who was a Clima player I had not met before. You can tell he wants to be good, practices with good habits and takes advice for improvement. Sadly he caught me at the end of the circle, where I just sucked. Actually, most of that circle I didn't do anything to be proud of, largely due to the 3 hours I solo'd previously in the day. This turned out to be a poor decision overall in the sake of competition, as I cramped up all the next day, and had both legs start cramping mid-routine. That really threw me off, but I can assure myself the same mistake wont happen again....For the same reasons, of immature will to play at a tournament. For the first time I felt like I was in the big kid circle at a tournament, which is one of the things I have wanted every since I went to worlds 07. Just to see people sit down and watch you shred, feels so good. Great compliment I suppose, because it basically says to me "Out of the endless opportunity and possibility of things I could be doing right now, you entertain me the most". As a part of a sport that is specifically designed to show off, it feels pretty awesome when that finally solidifies into your reality.
Finals for routines was pretty, testy I suppose. This was the first tournament I've been to where my routine was only partially planned, and not fully analyzed at all. Knowing that "I'm going to walk infront of a crowd, and have to try my best to impress them by means of improvisation" is something that isn't exactly in my comfort zone. However, doing a 1 drop routine, where the first drop is 4 seconds in on a toe stall, it felt pretty solid. Double switch, barrage, double downs, symp whirl, pixie whirl, torque, pixie / stepping / spinning / rake / can all screw up pretty easily in a routine, but being in that state where your brain doesn't even consider dropping them, feels pretty good. After I finished the routine, I sort of thought to myself "Wow, that is what Vasek must think like. Just do the tricks you have mastered, and know you can't drop". The routine was still stupid, but I guess it felt kind of cool to win my entry fee money back with it. Coming second to the Cleaver, and beating some hall of famers / baps / cool kids felt neat. I wonder if it will feel just neat, or exactly the same if I ever actually win a tournament. Judging from how Dr. D reacts when he wins a tournament, I imagine it will feel "neat". Time will tell blog vixens.
Another big impression I got from the tournament which makes me happy, is the potential of the east coast. There were some good intermediates, Mr. Goode, Jordan for example who seemed to have decent form and potential. Knowing that in 5 years, when Johnny, Jorden, Dave, Digges etc are more or less gone that there is something going to pick up the slack is nice.
Steve is so cool. Props to him.

Hear Hear, fare minions of Modified: Footbag kicks ass. In every way...
I just kicked, drills some basics, made great progress, and am 1 step closer to hitting a cool combo, namely, the Vasek Combo. For about 2 hours, I drilled the following in order to come closer to the goal..
bs = both sides, not back side.
bs eggbeater*15, 3 times.
Eggbeater*3->ss eggbeater*3*rpt, 3 times.
bs (gyro, spinning, pixie, pixie ss, stepping, blurry, fairy, and symp eggbeater).
bs smear over and over..
bs Pixie illusion over and over..
bs 25 contacts of smear->pixie a few times.
eggbeater-> smear->eggbeater->pixie illusion->dlo->smear->dlo->pixie illusion->pixie legover*rpt a few times.
And finally just tons of bedwetters.
I figure, if I can hit smog->pigbeater*10 contacts bs by the end of the week, I'll start working on the rest of the drill. I want that drill to be mine before Finland.
Oh Juho. Oh Anssi, Oh the humanity. In fact,

On another note, Montreal was cool. Namely, the 7 hour drive with Johnny and Erik, talking about footbag was cool. Shredding on Saturday at Place of the arts was dandy, and I got some good shred time with Jon Schneider, which was a delight. Two weekends in a row with the outsider was pretty pimp. What a sexual tyrannosaurus, it is rumoured that he keeps all 4 of his wives extremely satisfied, even after a full days work. A few people outside of Montreal speak of how they would enjoy moving there, because it is an incredible city, but for some odd reason I couldn't see myself "moving" there. Co-op for a summer? Sure, but, taking my life and moving it to a french speaking city, with adorable 2 week summers and abhor-able 50 week winters wouldn't tickle me pink. The upsides are very obvious though: Footbag, Food, Female species, metro system, and more european lifestyle...
Another random thing I decided to do today, was do paradox torque->ripwalk->ripwalk->paradox torque->ripwalk->far wauxpin. The wauxpin was neat, because it had such a subtle swing to it.

I just had a fantastic day with the destroyer. Fantastic I tell you. Like, Jebsii Christ good. Yeah, Jesus' younger brother, with red hair was named Jebsii; Take that Will Smith. Why does Jebsii have a good connotation you ask? Because he was the one who invented chess, Leonardo Da Vinci, and steamed broccoli.
The day started with some homework, which I actually enjoyed (Hoorah for choosing a good program), and then at 12:08 I departed for the Mulberry street. Jorden and I went to a perfect shred spot, and played for about 3 hours. 1.5 hours in, we noticed "Hey, there is a hacky sack poster right there on the telephone pole! They play Sundays!" And well, soon after a few guys came and kicked with us. Most of them were ~30 years old, but they were as interested as anyone else.
That, I suppose wasn't quite what made today great. What made today great, was that I hit ps whirl->rev swirl*rpt in two tries. Never having done the link before, or anything, I just mentally smiled at baby Vasek and said "I need your combo, to continue on breathing" and somehow it came to be reality. Thank you Vasek, for making that combo so absolutely gratifying. I suppose I hit some other stuff during the day as well, but nothing that cool. I guess I hit pdx torque->pdx drifter*rpt again, in probably 8 tries or so, which is a huge improvement from Montreal. I hit whirl war II first try, and then again second try without much hesitation, also cool. I asked Jorden what would be cool into Symp egg, toe or clipper, and he said Grifter. I hit that first try, which was also fun, *link being grifter->symp bubba*. I dabbled with some rakes, fairy spinning, and whatnot...All in all, just a sunny day, great location, good atmosphere...And the Destroyer destroyed some stuff too. For perspective, I think the culmination of his devastation was a Kia Forte, colour being silver. I got kind of cocky, and after doing rev swirl->far rev*rpt I tried to do twirl, and sadly dropped it. That annoyed me..Somewhat more deeply than it should have.
Playing footbag, can be just so...Awesome. Like, no tournament, no stress, no anything, just "Hey, lets try this". In moderation though, I guess like everything.
Jorden and I also went to a Vietnamese place for dinner, which was, fantastic. We both ordered stuff that we had no idea what was, and it all worked out for the best. Deep Fried Crab Cheese, Ridiculous spring rolls of virginity and pure thoughts..I ordered Frog legs, and he got some sort of seafood/vegetable/ soup/pasta hybrid, along with award winning milkshakes with flavours we had never heard of.. I got something that sounded like "sapota" and he ordered, erm, something that had a word chunk of "dan" I think.
Perfect day. I'm looking forward to stopping typing, showering, stretching and doing homework for 3 hours. No sarcasm, I just, ugh. Yay.

Drifters are coming along. I figured out pdx drifter in more, certainty and confidence within it. I began with drifter*50, so I made sure that my foundation would be vanilla smooth. That felt relatively good, because anything *50 new, is an accomplishment. After that, my goal was pdx drifter*15, and I've gotten ~13 a few times probably about 10 times each side. I'm sure *15 will just take a bit longer than 3 days practice. The real trick, for me with Strong consecutives, not mere "gunit action", was support foot rather than dex foot. At first, I noticed I was trying to control my body with the dexing leg, rather than core/everything else. Much like nuclear, if you have a pivot backwards and to the side, slight twist, you can design your momentum to want to complete the dex, instead of making your body do it. After about 3 consecutives, I find this rhythm of momentum wanting to dex works best. High dex knee, and holding your crank throughout the trick seems to just work really well for control. Cranking also angles the drifter window better, and obviously you don't have to crank again after the dex.
So, to blurry drifter. I've always sucked at this trick, hardcore. Today I said "alright, 20 blurry drifters bs and I'll begin to drill it". After pdx drifters, and stepping ss clippers, I found that in order to get a good blurry drifter you must get your stepping foot into the exact position as a pdx drifter. While this is trivial in hindsight, fucking up many a blurry drifter I felt good when I found exactly the reason of my success. So, making sure you stall and bring down the bag, and then hold it on your foot all the way up rather than a 'kick' style clipper, gives you enough balance to really set your support foot in the proper position.
Once you get that foot behind you, and twist your body a bit, I discovered you can hit 20 blurry drifters bs pretty quickly, with only maybe 1 or 2 failed attempts. No bad feelings of forcing the trick on your body, and, it feels good
I got some stepping ss drifter->blurry drifter, and blurry->stepping ss couples, because I know before October I'll get the drill. I also figured out ducking and spinning pdx drifter while I'm in the neighborhood, and I ended the session on blurry drifter->ducking pdx drifter bsos. The coolest "bsos" run I've probably ever had in terms of highlights, was delusion and void bsos. I feel like I could make delusion my "whirr" in place of, well, "whirr"... I mean, pigbeater->atomic double switch->delusion->pixie whirl or something would be "pimp-sauce". In the same way where blurriest->superfly->stepping ss whirl->whirr->grifter would be also, extremely cool.
That reminds me, new grifter record. 4 b2b. I got one grifter today, that I swear was just past my knee in cleanly-hood. That felt, hilarious. *edit* just recalled, pixie ducking legover*10, third try I think. That was spontaneous.
