Kicked some on Friday with Matt but I did not get much on tape. Haven't kicked since because I am on antibiotics and I am trying to kill this bug I've had.

Highlights were:
*Spinning clipper-blender (first try, ever) and I almost hit it on the other side
*Spinning osis-osis bs, within a couple tries on one, first on the other

Here is my first datamoshing experiment. It starts out with vector morphing (not my best example, but it was available at the time) and goes on to the datamoshing in a bit.

Mental notes: I am a bit excited about trying out resolume and really learning Flash (AS3.) I may have to start the Flash bit this week...

Kicked. Glad I did but it is still really unbearable with this cold/wtf-ever it is.

Aside from that I am a bit overwhelmed by AS3. I could totally learn it, but the stress of being sick and the pressure to actually finalize some stuff in with max / ableton live is so much greater. Perhaps I will try and do a bit a day.

hey,

nice video. props on duck clip > spin clip > dyno and duck clip > ripwalk. that's a cool link.
It's cool to see the progress of your sessions as the video tends to end.

The only thing I don't like in your game are the sets of your ducking clippers. Sometimes they fly above your head instead of neck and sometimes there's no movement of your head at all. The bag is just flying over you. Maybe you like to work on that, if it's important to you. I'd also like to see some Toe sets in your runs...Pixie, Atomic ?

So true. I don't even consider the duck necessary. I generally have the attitude that if it goes over my head it is good enough. Such a bad way of looking at it and my form suffers for it. Fantastic observation :) You have changed my perspective and attitude about this move. Similarly, ny spins have improved because I am trying to attribute a sense of personal award to controlled clippers both before and after, rather than completion of the move. My thoughts fire so fast when I shred that I often have to program filters internally to maintain order and efficacy.

I do not do pixie moves because I seem incapable of clearing them on my left side. I will do a little drilling of this today. Perhaps I will try some atomics both sides but they take a bunch out of me and this respiratory thing I got going on makes it impractical to invest my time in these at the moment. Mostly I have been concentrating on my form, doing tricks that require discipline, organization and form rather than physical stress. I suppose I can school weak pixie though. When I am winded from the atomics, etc.

Thanks for the props regarding the rips out of ducks. The encouragement helps a bunch :)

Two sessions, one day. Had a bunch I wanted to accomplish. It is going to be brutal for a hundred years, but I will implement both pixies into my game.

The video has my first legitimate pixie sets off of my left foot.

Never give up. I forgot about that. The motion feels less natural, and more like executed commands. I can live with that though. Even the tricks that feel dialed ultimately are only in good form when treated from this perspective. I'm still learning.

Oh, and thank you Simon.

Nice Ian! I really liked the variety of moves in this new video. Your hippy atomics look very cool. I think you should incorporate pixie and atomic in your game, even if it's only strongside for now. I think if you do that, and really pay attention to what you're doing correct on your strong, then flip will come along more easily later.

Oh, and with your blenders you need to turn sooner, and whip your head around sooner. You're taking too long with the first part of the trick, and therefore aren't in a good position to finish it. As Rippin used to advise: fast whirl, slow osis. At a certain point you need to commit to the trick, and just hope the osis will be there. You're looking too long at the bag in the beginning of the trick, and you can't make up for that time loss later.

Thanks for the kind words Ken!

I have decided once again that feedback is priceless and that dedication will get me through any reasonable obstacles, ie: I don't have to fear anyone's challenges, and that I should be more open to them (within reason.)

So:
More pixies and atomics:
*I will school this drill frequently:
ducking clipper (weak)- spinning clipper-pm-smear-leg
perhaps one day I will be able to repeat it

Yesterday I did not want to play. Let me be more specific; after two nights of four hours of sleep I was not excited about footbag after work. I was actually a bit put off about the idea as a whole. There is a difference however with not wanting to play at the present and wanting to play as a whole. If you want to be able to shred you need to shred. Shit does not grow on trees. So I made myself get over myself and I schooled both sides of pixie. Keep in mind that after 15 years of footbag I never dialed strong pixie and I never got close to weak side pixie.

I think I am continuing to learn how to be a more efficient learner. Perhaps this is what I love the most about this game. Perhaps it is my greatest indulgence- observing the learning process at the detraction of applying it. I must remind myself that for each footbag video I upload that I also share more art with the www.

It is important for me to find balance between my art and my health. It is fantastic that I can both review my efforts and elicit feedback.

kicked three times today. I had a whole lot of wedding/birthday food over the weekend and it was nice turning it all into muscle.

Over the day my right knee started bothering me because of pixie. So I backed off of it. I also shifted away from spins because I wanted to take a break from them.

The major highlight of last session with Matt was stepping out of spinning clipper into a string. That and ducking pm- hippy leg

Highlights today:
*ducking clipper- weak gyro toe/cross body rake from the farther side (new trick)
*clipper set gyro toe on strong (maybe it's a gyro rake?) anyway- same trick (new trick)
*ducking gyro toe (new trick)
*spinning clipper*2- spinning hand catch
*hippy legbeater- weak simple swirl
*footed hippy atom bsos (started on the side that wants to be leggy)
*some longish strings

Kicked for 30 minutes. Mostly to stay in practice and break in my shoes so that after the 140 hours I will soon work over 12 days I will come back to footbag with some semblance and closer to broken in equipment. I suppose this would be a good time to order some bags actually. Hmm. Tomorrow will be my last session for probably over a week. We'll see.

Anyway, despite the short session and four hours of sleep I managed to make some progress on weak side xbdy rake, hit some nice rips out of ducking clippers, broke my pm-inf. repeat record and last but not least... I hit a new move :)

You don't even understand... I have to work downtown every night till next Saturday:!:

After tomorrow it will be 14 hour shifts.

Fucking rallies are going on at Arsenal Park which is about two blocks from my house.

My corner mailbox is gone because they don't want bombs placed in them.

Hopefully if anything it will be a small bomb and it won't get you too.

Thanks for the props though :)

Hey, no problem.

Thing is... we'll be down for the GWAR/Lamb Of God show at the ampitheatre tomorrow.

Thanks for your prayers!?!

I'm sure you've noticed the dozens of choppers circling around even my place for the past month.

Nice videos Ian, it's good to see you kicking so much ass.

I think you should invent a trick and call it the G20. It should involved chaos, fire, and broken Starbucks windows.

Last day of Spatial Sounds (well Physical Constructions, the show, as a whole.)

I am going to miss this piece a lot. Fortunately I will get to help install ZEE in NYC in a few weeks. That should help out with my need for sensory overload.

Anyway, there is going to be a massive install for the next week. This time tomorrow I will be full-tilt, but at the moment I am just gathering my wits. Especially since I will have to walk through a war zone to get to work for the next couple of days, due to the G20.

So, yeah, I kicked another 35 minutes today in a new pair of gunits. They are not quite there yet. I left a lot more toe leather on this pair and they seem more rigid, which is nice, but my right toe is irritated by something around the outer toe-box, at the base of the toe (top of foot.)

There was maybe one string I liked and a few pixie sets. I like my flip pixie. I am going to not do anymore pixie sets on my strong side until I hone my left side and I can port it over. The way I do pixie on my strong side fucks my knees up.

I reviewed some footage from a couple weeks ago when I just started documenting my session highlights. It was the DOD one. I thought to myself: these look close as flip pixie- why am I not schooling dods and downtime paradons? So I tried a bunch and the form is getting closer. I feel close to symposium whirl too.

Yeah, the highlight was definitely ducking clipper-spinning clipper X2- whirl- string. I will post the vid.

Also, I tried a few osis attempts, inspired by recent Reiferman highlights.
Think I hit about 12 or 13. Didn't count. They all seem so sloppy that they are not even worth it. I will certainly work on this.
