shit, the bruise on the bottom of my left foot is really a problem right now. last night, i had to do all my yard work in preparation for big birthday party for Keegan this weekend (he's the big 4-nothing now). So, lots of walking in heavy boots and mowing and string trimming and leaf blowing and sweeping. By the end of that, I was walking on club foot, couldn't stand to put the foot on the ground really. Then, pushed it even more by being on my feet while building Keegan's spiderman bike (which is soooo cool btw). Iced it last night, but I can barely walk on it today. So weird. Anyways, I'll probably have to skip playing for the next several days which sucks because I'm on a high with footbag right now, and losing weight like crazy. We'll just take it day by day. What a weird injury.

fucking foot still hurting. i played as best as i could last night. but i really could only just kick, osis practice, atw and mirage and other easy practice. can't really put my left foot on the ground without pain still. it's less pain, but still there's no way i can even pixie or step set or anything. try again tonight.

foot still hurt, AND had a fever yesterday. I'm in one of those pissy "the world is against me" moods as a result. i was getting good at footbag and getting skinny, and the last thing i needed was this break. now i'm grumpy and tired and cough cough sneeze sneeze ouch my fucking foot.
damn it
edit: in other news, i'm bored as hell too, but was able to get my fb friends list narrowed down to 87 people so far. most of them are footbaggers that i only know a little bit. ha ha. guess i'm not that friendly.

hey guys, thanks for the encouragement. i guess on the bright side, if you're going to be sick or going to be injured, it might as well happen at the same time so you don't have two separate instances of downtime.
anyways, i pretty much am taking off all the way through the weekend because i can feel that my foot is getting better, and i'm just avoiding anything that will set me back. tonight I'm finally going to tune my mountain bike so i can take a couple rides for exercise instead.
fever still barely there. whatever.
oh, and i decided to share the wife's facebook account from now on. it's just so much easier because she keeps the pictures etc. so if you wonder where i went on there, that's where. we'll have to keep in touch through here or somehow else instead. later

what a ridiculously difficult weekend that was.
going to do some osis tonight to test whether i can try to get back on my foot or not. i still can't walk barefoot without extreme pain, so i'm not overly hopeful.
edit:
but, there was some excellent news last week. First, some background, refresher info... I rebuilt the barn so that I could have a shred space, and a space to do woodworking. I want the space to do woodworking because I plan to launch a side business making furniture.
Anyways, after building the space, I knew I'd need to get some formal training in some finer techniques of woodworking. Framing a building and taking rough lumber to 2 sides finished and squared and incorporated into a complicated piece of furniture are different skill sets. I also need to do some research on the best tools (best ROI) for the type of furniture I'm interested in making.
So, I googled "woodworking PA" and the very first result was this:
http://www.jdlohrwood.com/services.htm
The first google result is never the one you want, but I opened it up and started reading. I somehow didn't immediately notice the location of the woodworking school which is right in the first sentence or two, but was amazed by this place. After I was sucked in for a 1/2 hour, I realized I needed to see where the school was before investing more time.
The school, which people travel from around the country to attend, is 4.2 miles from my house.
"Holy shit", says I.
And so I read some more. and more and more and more.
and more.
I pass the link to my wife.
"Holy shit", says she, "you HAVE TO take his course".
Courses are about $1000 for six 8 hour days (about equivalent to a semester course at a university.. so a very fair price). There's normally a waiting list of up to a year to get a slot in one of the courses. When you're done with the course, you basically have the base to begin your furniture career. Sure, there's tons of other learning you'll do, but you'll know enough to get started.
April 2010, I have a week's vacation booked at work so that I can attend my course. I got the last bench (9 students at a time) in the class due to a cancellation.
Every once in awhile, things ARE easy. Meant to be.
(btw, regarding "meant to be". the master woodworker that teaches the course also saved an old barn like mine)

drew, thanks
damn i haven't seen you in awhile.
yes, let's do saturday, but you'll have to be ok with me being rusty from injury time off, and possibly be ok with me playing fairly lightly. if so, i'll coach you a lot still.
also, bring me a bag, need one, starting to get urgent.
2 p.m.? or 8 p.m.? either time on saturday would be great

yo, unfortunately, I'm going to have to postpone our shred indefinitely. I made it as far as alternating toe stalls last night before realizing that my foot needs another week at least (sadly, I think it will be 2 weeks) with no activity on it at all. I don't even know how I'll get my lawn mowed this week. FUCK. So, no shred session this weekend.
I BUILT A FUCKING SHRED BARN AND CAN'T EVEN FUCKING PLAY.
as for facebook, the wife's killing her account too actually. we decided that it's just not for us and we want to be more unplugged. So people will have to email and call us like in the good ol' days. easiest way for footbaggers is to PM me here.

well, faced facts that footbag is out for awhile. I'm assuming it's not out forever so I'm not overly depressed... but depressed nonetheless. Again, I nearly killed myself building a place to play... and then immediately upon finishing, I am injured. How unpoetic is that? Whatever.
So, I can't run on a treadmill or anything like that. Can't play hoops. Can't really do anything that involves foot on the ground. So, I got my bike out of storage, and spent last night tuning it and fixing it up. Tonight, unless it's raining which is probably what will fucking happen because that's my fucking luck right now, I will take my first ride on the river trail by my house. I have to ride after kids are in bed, so I'll be riding with a bike light in the dark. No cars are allowed on the trail, so it's safe. I'll bring a bat in case anyone tries to mug me.

laced up the bball sneakers last night and carefully shot hoops on the driveway for awhile. I can't plant or jump, but i could sort of hobble around well enough to work up a sweat. afterwards, took a bike ride, and then came back and lifted in the exercise room. ended up being a good workout when everything was combined. foot is still nowhere near being able to footbag. i'm starting to wonder how long of a break this might be. might be many weeks.
Bob R.
i couldn't take it anymore, so I played some footbag last night. I forced myself to only play for 20 minutes, and I stuck to really easy stuff, and really didn't freestyle, just did single low impact tricks followed by kicks etc. Lots of legovers and pickups and atw's and ducking and a few spins and osis and a few drifters. Not too bad. A little soreness in my foot still. Take it easy. Felt so good to play even if it was lame play
Bob R.
ha ha, yeah, still burns. the fire that is. fire for footbaggin'. oh shit, you know what i mean.
was talking to kaiser ahmad today, he's been playing a little on his own he said. i passed him a link to my latest footbag vid on youtube, which i thought was pretty nice little display of freestyling, and his sole comment was "nice dragonflyer". ha ha, yes, I know, I can't hit 8 add tricks. but i figured another old timer like soze to be one to be able to look past that and appreciate the strings for their flow and style. whatever, i'll give him shit about it next time i see him.
gonna play tonight
damn is modified dead dead dead. are we all "too cool" these days?
