I played today and worked on challenges because I was actually given some for once lol.

Challenges hit:

-ducking butterfly > diving butterfly > rpt
-zooming clipper bs (did osis > gyro clip bsos and osis > spinning clip bsos)
-spinning clipper x3 > ducking clipper > rpt
-ss xbd rake > far xbd rake > rpt
-osis x10
-spinning ducking clipper bs (did it bsos)
-ss butter > osis > pdx mirage > 16 contacts
-ducking clipper > diving clipper > rpt for 8 contacts

Waiting for the footage to upload so I can put it in my challenge thread.

East Coast Championships

On friday, my dad came and picked me up from campus, and we left around 5:30. Ate some good IHOP and were officially on the road to meet Jon Schneider. Traffic decided to be really heavy so we didn't arrive in new brunswick until around 7:30 unfortunately. I said my goodbyes and thank you's to my dad, and we were off.

During the long ride with Jon, I asked a lot of questions about freestyle and footbag in general. Getting to ride with someone like Jon is so awesome. But I am sorry if I was a chatter box, who wouldn't be? :) As we got closer to D.C., the directions said to take exit 27, and we were around exit 41. Next thing I know it's exit 25, but Jon doesn't seem to be worried, so I don't bring it up. Around exit 4, we realize we made an ih-oh. We soon see the "WELCOME TO VIRGINIA" sign. Luckily enough, Jon is a good enough driver where we were back on track shortly. So after another while of getting back to exit 27, we reach it and wonder how we missed it. We then exit, and continue on new hampshire ave or something like that looking for the next street that mapquest provided us. After the 2 allotted miles, we don't see the street. After 3 miles we pull into a parking lot and bust out the map. After heading down the other direction of the street in hopes of finding the street, we do not find the road down that way either. I decide to try and use the VZ Navigator app on my phone, and sure enough, it brought us right to Ken's place.

When we got there, everyone (bruce dole, waylon, nate pipenberg, drew martin, and dave byers) had just laid down to pack it in for the night. I too eventually find a spot on the floor and wake up a couple times in the night, but it didn't affect my rest. In the morning, we all get ready, have some oatmeal, brian mackenzie (sp?) arrives, and we all set off for the site. Jon, Waylon, and I stop at a shopping center to grab some food, then head back to the site. After a bit of warming up, Ken asks me if it's fine if I just compete routines with all the open people cause no one else wants to do intermediate routines. I don't mind, so I say sure. A bunch of us continued to play on the net courts because the ground was so flat.

It's time for routines and I'm up first. The first two sections of my song go by with no drops. But somehow I managed to biff the rest of the routine and end with 8 drops :( I liked my routine better than at Funtastiks to. Oh well. Everyone else's routines were pretty good too. There wasn't anyone who had only 1 or 2 drops, but it was still a good competition.

Open circle was then held in a different room than routines. I filmed both prelims and the final round. Everyone had some cool stuff. From going through the footage, I already have like an 8 minute video going. Geez lol. Brian Mackenzie started playing after circle. His style is so cool! Jon S was in the circle too and was hitting some really cool stuff like symp whirling flapper > anchor. I hit food processor at one point! After the blender, it came right up and hit me in the eye and I caught it. Sealed! I also kept on trying ps whirl again, and after some good tips from waylon and nate, I hit a good one and was happy. When everyone was closing down and it was just me, waylon, dave b, and brendan, I was more or less just trying big tricks. I successfully hit mobius and double spinning clipper. Right on son.

We all finish up and head to Vince's place. After consuming some interesting burmese take-out, Ryan Thomas starts throwing on the shred videos. We watch "Feet on Fire" and what I believe was "Lion's Den" or something like that. Eventually a muted really old Jacky Chan movie comes on and entertains at least me until we head back to Ken's place for the night. We play the Wii and watch some Simpsons (at least I think that's when we watched it. In retrospect, we might've watched it in the morning). Definitely a lot of fun.

Sunday morning we awake again, and set out for the event site. After warming up, we head inside to do intermediate circle and request comp. Circle was me, waylon, and dave b. None of us really played to our potential by any means lol. It's all good. Took second in that. Then came request. I got out in the third round of that, which is silly cause I got out on ripwalk > spinning clipper. That's something I should've been able to do no prob bob. Oh wellss. Ken ended up winning it. Some of the combos got really hard really quickly. Everyone just laughed when Bruce read out barroque > diving dyno. It was all a lot of fun. Before heading back outside I keep on trying to get a mobius on camera. Jon S hit a pretty good one but I'm not sure it was on camera.

We head back outside and continue kicking. For a while, it's just me Jon, and Brendan from maryland in the circle. I continuously fail to get a mobius on film. I stop trying for a while but randomly try again later on and BAM. Witnessed by the camera and Dan Greer from afar. Drew Martin joins the circle for a bit then we all decide to give it a rest. Brendan and I throw around a frisbee for a few minutes. A circle with Vince, Jon, and Dan Greer starts back up so I head over to watch. Dave B hops in for a string or 2, then sits back down. I take his place just cause I'm bored and was too tempted by the circle. We all keep on trying cool tricks just for fun. I'm pretty sure we were all sore at this point (4:30 ish). As the circle ends I almost fluke spender lol. I take another whack at it, and not thinking I hit it, the bag comes up right in front of my face after the blender! I don't realize quickly enough what the hell just happened and I can't catch/seal it and it falls to the ground and I fall with it in a hissy fit lol. So close.

We all head to the Thirsty Turtle and prizes are given out and food is eaten. There were many hardcore football fans constantly clapping at the first downs and good passes. Jon and I then head out in attempts of getting home at a reasonable time.

I really enjoyed the weekend. Everything went pretty well and there wasn't much trouble. I have roughly 3 hours of footage to go through. I'm probably through half of it at this point, and a good portion is just me trying to get that mobius on camera lol.

Can't wait till next year

Kicked last night and tonight in the common room. Last nights session wasn't so hot but I did have a few longish tiltless strings. I think the longest was 34 contacts or something like that.

Tonight I just wanted to play for the sake of playing. I just kept on trying guiltless.

Highlight things:

- 12 guiltless twice
- pixie ss clipper > merkon bsos
- quantum ss clipper bs

Some of the stuff that I was constantly dropping on just kinda made me angry cause they're concepts that I have basically just as solid as simple tiltless stuff. It's all good though. I'll have a full on serious session next time. I just needed the exercise tonight.

Until next time

just saw a show performed by two time world champion juggler greg kennedy. What a great show. Geez. He did two hours worth of great stuff, but for little children and some of the parents, 2 hours was just too long for their goldfish-esque attention span and ignorance of skill and talent. At one point during the show he used the song that damian used for his routine at worlds (that mike toolan also used).

I just wish my school had events like this more often.

Finally got to play today, even though I have a midterm tomorrow and I should be studying for it. I played on the slanted parking garage because I didn't feel that I had time to trek to a flat area. I could definitely feel the unevenness but the session turned out pretty well. The session was more a whirl training session I guess. Had some good highlights that I'll be making a blog video of later. There were also a lot of people walking by today so when they were around I just tried stringing and came away with a few longer ones. They were mainly tiltless, of course. I didn't push all that much for guiltless today.

I'll post the video either later tonight or tomorrow. Keep an eye out for it

Played in the city today with Ben, Taylor, Jo(h)n, and Josh. It was a lot of fun. Ben hit some crazy freakin sh*t like spinning ducking reverse symple swirl..

I almost sauced blurry whirl again. Gr. I was also able to hit spinning symple swirl after seeing the above craziness. I also came sooooo close to hitting my first fearless link. It was spinning ducking osis > pdx blender. I think that combo is the most feasible for me right now. I also spun out of a blurry whirl for the first time trying for a mobius but it was a fail =). Other stuff happened but somehow I can't remember already.

I like warmer weather after colder weather.

Goodnight

Went into today's session with 3 goals. The first of which should more or less be a no brainer for me, and it actually took less tries than I thought it would. The second I also got pretty quickly to my surprise. And hitting my third goal was the biggest surprise of all. And on top of that, I also had a mini breakthrough with my drifters
Highlights:
- 3 strings of 20+ tiltless (goal 1)(# of contacts: 26, 20, 22)
- 2 strings of 10+ guiltless (goal 2)(# of contacts: 11, 14)
- Whirl War (goal 3)
- spinning clipper > spinning clipper > spinning butterfly > merkon bs (a drill from the vasek manual)
- drifter x4
- footed flip pdx drifter

Good session

Played again yesterday at the parking garage. I could definitely feel the slope seemingly more-so than usual. It might be due to the fact that there were zero cars on the entire upper deck, so I could see the slant in full tilt, if that makes sense in a non-pun sense.

Highlights:

- 37 contact tiltless string when I told myself to do a long string
- schmoe > smear > butter > rpt. In all the times I tried it I simply couldnt' get it, but yesterday I got it first try lol.
- Whirl war again for the camera
- almost diving clipper > stepping clipper > drifter > rpt. Dropped the seal

Here's the video I put in my challenge thread:

I think I'm finally learning to really focus. It's really making me happy lol.

Non-video Highlights:

- 50 tiltless
- ducking clipper x17

I've decided that I'm going to put double downs on hold (not that I was really working on them) until I can consistently get mid-teens in guiltless and have at least hit 20+ guiltless. Which I'm hoping will be relatively soon

great video man! i have a couple comments for you:

-im very jealous of your spinning.
-work a bit on your pdx illusions, they seem difficult. try to find a vid of either DC or jorden and watch how they do it, its very swoopy and less jerky. it took me the longest time to get right, and i cant anymore anyways because of my bad knees, but i do know how it should be executed.
-50 tiltless is great! ive found that it is really valuable for higher level of play to start learning ducking versions of titltless moves, ie. ducking mirage, ducking legover/pickup, far ducking legover, diving ss mirage, etc. these are really great additions to guiltless level shred. start off by doing consecutive ducking toe stalls to get the feel for the timing/set/catch.
-keep playng man, your doing great! im glad youve recovered so well and quickly from surgery, youre very lucky.

Cale, thanks for the comments!

I have always had a slightly tougher time with the pdx illusions. I've more or less always tried to do them solely downtime, which I assume would explain the jerkyness. I'll definitely find the videos to help.

With the ducking, I actually do do a lot of ducking mirages (it's actually kind of odd I didn't do any in the video), but I've really only dabbled in the others, so I'll spend more time on those too.

Thanks again!

edit: I totally forgot to mention that roughly 2 weeks ago was my 2 year mark for footbag. Yay actually sticking with it :D

Hey, I'm going to be in Connecticut (Brookfield) The weekend of the fifth of december. I'm not sure how far that is from you in New Jersey, but perhaps we might be able to get together and play.

Reid: I just google mapped the distance from where I am to brookfield and it looks like and hour and ten minutes roughly. Unfortunately, I don't have a car at campus, but maybe we can work something out. I would definitely like to try to kick with you though.

Matt: It is indeed a good game. I've become a fan of my lavers at this point, but I do miss my climacools  They'll always have a special place under my bed

Yesterday, I went into NYC for a school trip to the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum. The walkthrough of the place only took an hour or so, so afterwards me and a couple others walked around Times Square. We made our way to Toys R Us. We saw a few things in there including: the lego section, the barbie section  , a magic kit station, and one of the myachi guys doing a demo. Turns out it was Monk, one of the myachi guys that came to the NYFA tournament for a bit. I had kicked in a circle with him but I didn't fully recognize him until He said he was Monk. So I did some of the typical myachi tricks along with some alternating clippers and dropped on a spinning clipper. After talking for a few minutes he said to contact him if I want to help with demos or something to that effect. I'll probably contact him. It couldn't hurt.

I also kicked today, but did not have that great of a session. I really have to stop playing at the parking garage. The lopsidedness is really getting to me mentally and the concrete is taking its toll on my shoes.

I went into the session with both the right and wrong mentality. I had the right mentality in the sense that I was eager to play. I had the wrong mentality in the sense that I kind of wanted to ignore my goals. So, I went back and forth and struggled basically the whole time.

I did however manage to hit:

- pdx whirl b2b again
- stepping far pickup > ss whirl (almost bs. didn't have the patience to get both sides)

I did feel that I made my form on stepping a bit better when trying to raise my knee more.

Okay it's bed time. Night

Played for an hour in the floor's common room. Wasn't a bad session overall. I got my goal of a couple of 10+ contact guiltless strings as usual. Hit a sloppy-ish PS whirl both sides again.

What else was there? Oh right, one of my first couple tiltless runs was 27 contacts. I've been having a very good habit of having long tiltless strings very early in the session, usually right after the warm up. I've been a fan of it lately.

Yeah.

Laterr.
