Daniel Johnston

Anyone here know about the musician Daniel Johnston? A friend recently showed him to me. He is this crazy songwriter dude that is mentally ill. His story is interesting and there is just something about him that attracts you in even though his music is simple as hell. Daniel's old recordings are masterpieces in my opinion. Ever since about 1990, he has looked like Don Vito and now sounds like shit. I guess you could blame that on the mental hospital stays. That kind of sucks but check him out.

I really enjoyed these. Particularly "Story of an Artist".

The Devil and Daniel Johnston is an amazing DVD, I picked it up a couple years ago and it's engrossing. Whether or not you like/appreciate him as an artist won't affect the story; Personally I feel his ideas sometimes surpass his technique but man the heart is there for sure.
