Nucleus Shoe Website Update

Now that I am done testing, I thought I would offer up some feedback to the community about my experiences with the Nucleus. The shoes are now off to be shredded by another freestyler. I hope whomever it is, they enjoy them as much as I did.

After actually weighing the shoes I found them to weigh about the same as a new pair of unmodified Lavers. The Nucleus are about 20 grams heavier than the China made (light weight) Lavers. The heavier portion of the shoe being the grippy sole, which I doubt anyone will mind.

Below are the Pros and Cons I found while playing:

PROS:

- Very stylish. No one asked if I had special shoes or made comments that my shoes looked funny (as they normally do with Lavers).

- Foot hugging canvas. The shoe stays tight on the foot and the tongue stays in place. I find myself readjusting the tongue on Lavers between runs. I did not have this problem in the Nucleus.

- Adjustable Toe Box. Unlike Lavers that require some toe mods, this shoe only requires a lacing preference in order to get as little or as much toe box as you need. The farther back from the first eyelet you start to lace the shoe, the larger the toe box becomes, both wider and deeper.

- No toe box bump. Lavers tend to suffer from the toe box bump. This is that area were the mesh it stitched to the tongue. That extra piece of canvas can bend up during playtime and throw the bag forward when the tongue becomes loose. The Nucleus has no toe box bump as the mesh continues a good way up past that point on lavers before the mesh meets the tongue, giving a flatter surface for the entire toe box.

- Stability. The Nucleus are very stable and I had to remind myself to rotate my support leg during osis in order to pivot. Otherwise the shoe holds you firmly to the ground.

- Pre modded mesh is nice. The pre-modified mesh in both the toe box and the clipper are nice to have out of the box. No need to cut up your shoes to get this area thin enough to feel the bag.

- Durability. I have played in these shoes on 3 occasions and about 3 months apart and they felt as sturdy as they did brand new.

- Flexibile sole. The sole's flexibility will surprise ankle crankers. Those of you that have ungodly crank will be able to relax a bit cause these shoes will crank.

CONS

- No arch supports. The shoe I played in IS a prototype and as such I expect it to be a rougher version of the finished product. That said, the shoes I wore did not come with a factory arch support. I recommend some nice inserts if you are looking for support.

- No cushioned impact. The same can be said for impact. I found that right out of the box, the shoe had about as much impact support as a Laver. This can also be fixed with the right inserts.

- Inner canvas is rough. Because this was a rough prototype shoe, I found that the interior canvas was a bit rough on my toes. This I feel will happen with any new shoe until it is broken in for the person wearing them.

- Clipper demands proper form. It has been a while since I have played in a shoe without a clipper rail, and I was struggling in the videos to link out of osis. This is my fault for being a lazy footbagger. Jason Crook played in running shoes and he says the clipper is fine and that I need to go practice. LOL

- Toe walls. Although these shoes appear designed to eliminate the need to remove eyelets, I found as an experienced player that the toe walls were a factor. They were less of a factor than the huge Laver toe walls, but still a factor none-the-less. I recommend that experienced pros cut off the first eyelet just like Lavers, in order to enjoy a completely large front toe box. This will aid in Pixie and Fairy set moves. Since I couldn't cut these shoes, I did lace them down to the first eyelet and that pretty much solved the problem, although cutting them off would be my preference.

- The last thing I noticed and this was rather minor, was that the mesh in both the toe and clipper are 2 layers. An outer mesh, and an inner elastic cloth material. These 2 materials are not glued together. What I discovered is that the inner material is bouncy and with little effort I was kicking the bag over my head by mistake. The inner cloth is not needed as it serves no purpose other than to create an inner material for the shoe. This could easily be cut out with no impact to the shoes structural integrity. Again, since I could not cut these shoes, I found myself compensating for the bounce by bending my knees deeper, which is probably a good thing.

All in all, a wonder shoe. I personally cannot wait for these to be released so I can break in a pair for myself. As compared to Lavers, I was performing tricks right away in the Nucleus. My Lavers took me about a month to break in and become flexible enough to shred. The Nucleus worked right away and I am positive that once I am use to the adjustment, that my string length and trick selection will improve, as will my form!!!

I have been meaning to post this video of me shredding in Lavers (a few days after the last Nucleus video was made) as a comparison. I am not a big fan of my style ( ) but at least you can see a comparison from the other videos. There is also an ugly toe duck in there, forgive me, I was not having a successful day.

i was just on the shoe website and noticed their aren't may sizes left which makes me ask 3 questions: 1 are we still getting the size and color we ordered?2 Is that all that is available now for the first run?3 is that all u have left to sell before u start making and sending the shoe out?

Damon--just wanted to thank you for all your hard work and time you've put in to contribute to this project. I really appreciate your initiative to post input and video to provide very valuable non biased feedback that the public wanted to see.

Rory--thank you as well for what you wrote and the video that showed you pretesting the prototype. It's amazing to see you pull off those moves in shoes 2 sizes too big. I'm just so relieved you didn't try anything more intricate that would lead to an injury from shoes that didn't fit.

Brad-- thanks for coming out in such a short notice and doing those moves on video with scrunched up toes. To be able to do those moves without warming up still baffles me.

And thank you to everyone's numerous private messages for ongoing feedback to help the project move along. You've brought up very valid points that helped me to address issues immediately.

Manufacturers have informed me they will be able to complete the production by end of this month. I've checked with them each week and they are still on time with their schedule. I will repost if there are any changes and will announce release date upon confirmed completion.
