New Years Nuke Off (no vid... yet)

Post by sidekick »

Moderator's note: This may "belong" in a different place, please help me out if I was wrong for putting it in the Video section :)

So there has been some speculation and adequate talking going on about making a video based on nuclear, the concept in regards to footbag shredding, not power plants.

Johnny and I have decided to make this a matter of public (by which I mean modified) input, and as such I have made this thread.

I want any one with the ability to think of sick links/tricks/drills that have to do with the nuclear concept to submit a post here with your ideas. I will read and maintain a list of tricks/links/drills and then Johnny and I will try some of them and make a video sometime after the New year. The reason that this isn't happening right now is my injury is still healing and I need some recovery time.

That being said, here a few ideas that I've had about the subject:

1) There are three categories of this nuke-off, Big Tricks, Hard Links, and Fun Drills. Anyone may submit an idea, then, when the time comes, Johnny and i will pick the best ones and make the video.

2) We could also do some randomization and put all the ideas on pieces of paper and draw from a hat a select number that each of us has to try.

3) Anyone else that wants in on the "competition" may PM me and we can set it up.(I put the quotes because neither Johnny nor myself have interest in seeing it as such, but it is suitable label at this time)

I've taken the liberty to start off with a few things I want to try and that I think would be good footage to post online.

I think you guys expect Johnny and myself to be Gods of Nuke, which he might be, but I don't know about some of these things... like Nuke Motion back to back, that's a rough scene. Or Nuke Blender back to back, I've been trying that one for a while, still seems almost impossible.

Again, Johnny and I will talk over the list and discount some of the more crazy ones and then have a finalized list ready by the time we go to film. (Maybe at the Vegas Jam?)

Until then, keep the crazy coming!

With the ones that I posted, you can just do them both sides if that's all that's possible.

I'm not expecting you 2 to be gods of nukes.

Note: I've seen Johnny do nuke muted reverse swirling toe. I could see baby Jesus' face within the blur of dexing.

Obviously this isn't my competition, but I feel like most of these challenges aren't "nuke"based, and rather "how good are your torques / blenders / motions based. I feel like a Nuke-off should have,

Rubberman II contacts,
Matador*__
Barfry*__
And consecutive alpine nuclear __, *__.

Of course, watching the other stuff would be lots of fun, I just don't feel as if it is truly testing how good you are at nuke, rather osis links...

I agree to some extent, and will be talking to Johnny about this subject as well. I felt that when we started this competition, it was all about just Nuke as a set, but then later realized that it's about being able to set out of anything into nuke, such as drifter, whirl, osis, ducking concepts, or spinning concepts into the set. I do agree that there is consideration over how difficult it is to set from a blender or torque into nuke, and that is why so many people have asked to see crazy things, such as far tapping torque back to back(which might actually torque my back)

So I guess the real question is where do you draw the line between just a set, and being able to link into that set in terms of set mastery? If this were a stepping set video, I would expect people to want to see osis-step because it's fairly common and kind of easy, so why should I hold prejudice over stepping as opposed to nuke? Because nuke is "harder"?

I also see how ridiculous, from a personal stand point, some of these combos are. I never really do motion, and I don't know if I have even hit paradox fusion, but I welcome these challenges as they show me where my weaknesses lie and what people really think is impressive. I think part of it is that people just don't see those kind of links in normal shred videos.

That's why Johnny and I are teaming up to put this video out. Yes, we have to be able to stick certain moves in order to do the nuke set out of them, but we will weed out the insane ones and at least try all the others that suite our individual games so that we can make an epic video about a difficult concept.

Or at least that's my vision of it :)

I haven't done any swirling nuke, but I have footed it the opposite way. I mean to say nuke ripstien or far phasing mirage, or however you want to label it. I can try to finally hit something solid out of that set and put it on the video, but we can maybe try this set as well.

taking the last few posts into consideration, here's some more "relevant" ideas:

-alpine matador>alpine pdx tapdown>rpt (too much?)
-skullsmasher>alpine matador>stepping ss mirage>rpt
-alpine barfry?
-especially for nick: nuke whirr? i know youve hit pdx whirr, and i think this would be the sickest sight since vasek's birth.
-especially for johnny in light of jay's comments: nuke ss rev swirl b2b. THE tits.

let me know what you guys think.
