for butterfly / whirling swirls, it helps me to focus on shifting my weight to the swirling foot, and doing a lowish set.

good luck dude!

Thanks for the info. My one side is pretty good. I treat it like you say- a simple swirl with and incidental whirl in between. Unfortunately, I have a very weaks simple swirl on the other side and a much stronger whirl, so it is gonna be interesting what I learn about each side's strengths and weaknesses in the process. I am hoping for some good blender cues to come of it. I believe they already have. Like hopping off the set foot, and in my case waiting extra long to clear the dex before finishing the motion. I have a tendency of rusing some things, like my spins (which are looking much better.)

Weighed in at 177 this morning. I am going to have to start running again if I want to make my way back towards 170.

Kicked briefly.

*footed whirling swirl on the off side two attempts in a row, twice. Still haven't hit it though
*Hit ws on strong side first try, footed it on other side, same string.
*variations of ducking rpt-ducking clipper repeat- hopping/frozen/eye-balled osis-rpt. Both sides

That was about it. I wish I could play more later. Hopefully tomorrow.

Actually, she did make a reasonable dent in her own studio. I am hoping to lead by example. Mostly I like having a place to kick whenever I want. It's hard to string in here but it does make me move around less.

I footed ripstein 5 times earlier but chose to not post the video of it. I think I will film 100 attempts of pixie on both sides, followed by 100 attempts of spinning hand both sides. I just ate about 2lbs of a roast, half a head of kale and some of Jess's best mac and cheese ever. Shoveling snow wasn't enough to justify such indulgence.

Which reminds me: how the hell are yinz holding up out there in Butler?
Yesterday I got my exercise carrying two 25lb bags of salt to my house from Shur Save in Bloomfield. Nucking Futs these days.

Yesterday was big.

* Learned two very interesting patterns with guitar:
• A pattern between E-shaped bar chords and A shaped bar chords
1) At the same position, if playing root with E-shape, the A-shape at the same position is the root of the related minor scale. Meaning, that I have one more mechanism by which to unlock the fret board.
2) I discovered a major weakness in my left hand technique. So much opportunity there.

* I got a car

* I got a few major footbag accomplishments on tape:
• Whirling swirl, bsos
• Left (weak) whirl-ripwalk-string
• Spinning clipper- ws- sealed
• 23 contacts of pm-inf.-repeat
• Weak-side dimwalk mid-string

* Hung out with Jake and Friends. Participated in Karaoke (did a mean job of "Easy," if I don't say myself) and got genuinely plastered. Seeing Jake was fantastic. He was in rare form. Too much fun. Ha ha ha!

hey ian, glad to hear of big doings for you. really sad tripp had a heart attack before I could meet him face to face (although I later learned that he was at Funtastiks this summer and could have met him then!)

if I could offer advice via example... well I'm gonna anyways

at 1:40 of last vid above, you hit a spinning clipper to something else. The restraint and control you forced yourself to have in the spinning clipper... if you could have that in all your tricks I think it would open tons of doors for you.

Good luck, keep having fun

Hi Bob,

Could you elaborate a bit please? I feel that on various other spinning clippers my form was better because I sunk in deeper, and was able to make a far more controlled set. Yes, I did still (somehow) hit the whirling swirl, but particularly from the sound of the bag I feel like I rushed the set- in other words I was impatient- in other words, I did not show enough restraint in the stall. Did you by chance mean the spin or the set or the pause before the spin?

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that there weren't other controlled components on the vid, that was just one I picked out. Your entire set, spin and catch happened within a pretend telephone booth (you controlled side to side/front and back motion) and you used controlled throw and catch motion (not a bouncing of the entire body). I didn't even notice the next trick (but props on whirling swirl) because I was happy to see your energy contained in that way.

edit: by way of comparison, the very first string on the vid above.. watch your hopping and foot placement. Although you're hitting the tricks, you're chasing and being forced to contort. If you can imagine that you're feet would make a stamp on the ground with each landing, picture the pattern of stamps on that string. Pretty big range right?

So, compared to the spinning clipper I'm mentioning, it's night and day.

Does it help?

edit2: another example of being more controlled is at 1:10 when you hit the consecutive whirls. The catch isn't hurried, the set doesn't go flying too high, your footwork is almost identical on each of the three whirls including where you actually land.

So, I guess I'm saying that I think trying to focus on bringing that level of restraint to your entire game would be good in my opinion. You're definitely athletic and coordinated enough, so maybe this small shift in the way you approach it will pay big dividends.

Then again, I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination, so take my advice for what you paid for it :)
