Help Me.

Post by jspan1013 »

Okay, I'm, starting back up and just bought a sandmaster to get back into freestyle, but I need some shoes to play in.
The 2 shoes I'm interested in are Laver (Which Ive played in.)
and the nucleus footbag shoe which ive heard so much about.
Which is better and why?
Feel free to list pros n cons of each, or just state opinion.
Thanks, Joe

Are there even any REAL advantages that Nucleus has over the lavers?
I dont mind spending the $25 - $30 extra for the Nucleus if they will out preform and out last the Lavers.

But, if they don't I will stick to what I know, and spend the $55 on Lavers at WFA, so please people try to convince me.
I'd like to support the company Richie, and Queency have band together to make. Otherwise, more money for a Adidas

Lavers are a more reliable purchase imo. From what I've seen on the Quantum, they are designed to make you "sensibly hone" in on your clipper and toe sweet spots for performance reasons. The toe is narrower and the walls are seemingly scoopy, short and receded. The sole is not as elevated as the Laver.

In a design perspective, however, the Laver has a broader toe and clipper.

It's up to you, man.

one more piece of advice, your thread titles need some work.

Instead of titles like "Help me" or "need advice" (just two examples, not necessarily yours), you should be using titles like "Help me choose shoes" or "Filler falling out - need advice".

Do you see how the first two tell the reader nothing about the topic, and the second two tell them exactly what the topic is?

I still favor my lavers to my nucleus, but i think my nucleus are slightly to large.
The real advantages of the nucleus over the lavers is that they are lighter and the treads on the bottom are much nicer. In my opinion.

i like my nucleus shoes. they are definitely a lot lighter than my leather lavers, which translated into faster dexes when i switched. i've heard some people say they don't like the nucleus clipper, but personally it has not been an issue. i've always cranked pretty far for clippers and inside stalls, so perhaps it would be a problem for lazy ankles, but i think that has more to do with technique than anything else. i'd say go with the nucleus and support the sport!

Thanks Matt, I'll try to be a little more direct, and concise when making threads. I didn't realize it mattered much on a footbag forum, but people should

And I think I'm going with Lavers, its what I know, love, and trust soo why not.

Change is nice, but not all the time..

My $0.02:
Buying Lavers supports Adidas, buying Quantums or Nucleus supports footbag. It's very likely that the Quantums are done (i.e. no more production), but my hope is the same cannot be said for the Nucleus, and we can have an N2 that is of superior quality and hopefully more affordable as well.

There Nucleus inside has been recently "upgraded" (though I've yet to see the patch, they are apparently in the mail). I was rather surprised to see the "challenging" shelf presented by the insides (it wasn't entirely evident in looking at photos), but extremely glad to hear that the upgrades were forthcoming, considering I just bought "several" pairs...

Image

I've actually yet to try these yet... Either way my opinion will be slanted due to the fact that for me the toes on them will be irrelevant (chopped out). I'll be slicing up a pair when the inside patches show up. We'll be shipping all pairs with the new patches.

I'm getting Lavers in a couple of days or so if not by next weekend :)
After that ill be using this crochet bag i have now untill i have the money to get a quality 32.

So far Ive got insides down both sides easy, toes bs, clippers bs, flying clippers bs (Both Sides.) , and atws bs and in>out , out>in at that.
I can also do this one trick where I set on my flipside and i think it goes like this.
set toe>opp dex> clipper
Im not too good at Jobs so, I set on my flipside doing a toe stall> do an atw on my better side (Even though im pretty ambi.) > then clipper with my flipside.

What is that called?
And I think I'll start a footblog right once I get my Lavers.
p.s - How am I progressing for roughly a week - week and a half of playing mostly barefoot/socks?

I'm not sure what you mean by that, explain?

But, I'm picking up an MC bag off of freedomfootbags in a couple minutes.

Do you mean why was I challenging my self?
If so, well i figured I could buy 3 sandmasters for the price of one MC bag but they wouldn't be as high quality as matt's bags, and not to mention machine sewn and I dont think the detail is payed attention to as much.

Just to clarify,

I think 3 Mr Sandman footbags are definitely a great value in comparison to one of my bags.

They're great for breaking out in casual circle play - they are easy for the average circle kicker to use, and the pain you feel in your stomach when they scrape it on the ground picking it up is not as bad as the same pain you feel over a hand-stitched 32 panel ;) Plus, you can do all the great freestyle moves that are appropriate for the hack circle.

They are also good for hardcore freestyle - many of the greatest players have hit many great strings with a Mr Sandman.

Someone working on very technical freestyle play might prefer one of my bags because they are less floppy, heavier, and almost as stally as a Mr Sandman.

Alright Matt I will deff consider that, on another note how is Juice Elite Pro 32 panel compared to a Mr. Sandman for someone whos planning to get the basics down in freestyle but atill be able to hack with it.

I was referencing THIS . . . does nobody read anymore ?

I have the shoes, but can not understand what is challenging, let alone a shelf, about the insides. I was asking for clarification on that statement.

Cam, in reference to your second-to-last post,

I thought (as a Nucleus owner) that it was pretty clear that he was referring to the fact that the inside surface of the nucleus is not as forgiving to your inside stall and clipper form as that of some other inside surfaces on popular shoes.

I don't think anyone would disagree with that statement. Cam, if you didn't have to adjust your form and make it more precise to use the Nucleus, I applaud you for having really great form to begin with, because I know I sure have to adjust mine to use those shoes.

With some mods, I think I could have a very nice toe delay spot for my style (being that I am not a toe wall player nor have I been for a long while) but I don't feel like cutting my new shoes just yet.

The lightness of the Nucleus is another nice feature of the shoe.

Thanks Matt.

I haven't played with a popular shoe since 1999. Probably just used to having to adjust every time I get a new shoe.
