That's nearly verbatum to what I said the first time too. How does it feel?
It's really starting to feel good. Legs are getting used to it. Kicked, wednesday/thursday/saturday. Friday hacking plans were cancelled due to the consumption of way too much food at chile's on thursday night. That meal included a cookie meltdown which made my stomach feel horrible for the whole night. I still actually feel it a bit, but it hasn't hindered me from doing much.

I filmed all 3 sessions, but the first two weren't so great. Between a slippery deck one day and the next warming up, playing tennis for 20 minutes, and somehow expecting to be able to just jump right back into it, I just didn't play well. The last session was a lot of fun though. I kicked at the lighthouse where the pledge of allegiance was first said, along with being the place where morse code was first tested (according to my sources). I've been to the place many, many times simply because it's barely 5 minutes from my house, but it was fun to finally kick there. My friend who lives there was kind enough to film for me.

So here it is:

And thus concludes spring break

Yo, I'm really impressed, John. You are getting better so fast.

Things that stood out to me were toe barrage bsos, the whirr and your gyro mirage that looked seamless and stylish.

Hope to see you at an East Coast tourney soon.

Thanks Nathan! That really means a lot. And I'm hoping to make as many events as I can.

Just had a pretty diesel drilling session.

Highlights:

- magellan > plo > rpt > smear > plo > rpt
- pixie ss pickup > pixie pickup > rpt
- smear > atomsmasher > rpt
- tap > atomsmasher > rpt
- ducking infinity > spinning butterfly > rpt
- pdx whirl > osis > gyro clipper > rpt
- spinning pdx whirl bsos with the lame toe kick seal 8)
- spinning clipper > spinning butterfly > spinning pdx whirl bs (I wonder what recent video inspired this  )

I think that's it. Now to play tennis

Kicked with Drew and Will last night at the tennis courts here at school. It was a pretty fun session. Before Drew got there, I had a fun run with smudge and blizzard both bsos. Then towards the end of the session, as we were losing daylight, I managed to hit spinning symple swirl bs. I hit it once back in october, but not since then. So yay.

TOday, I played through a bit of pain. There's a tad bit of pain towards the top of the shin, almost at the knee. Almost decided not to kick, but that'd be silly  So I mostly drilled again. Hit a few strings over ten contacts. One of which was blurry whirl bsos with a spinning pdx whirl. I dropped the osis after the spinning whirl, but it was still a solid hit. That string made me feel pretty cool. I also hit scorpion's tail 8) Only one side though. Same side as the blurriest, meaning this was my flip spinning/now strong double down. I footed the other side a few times, but no go yet.

Pretty rewarding session for having some pain in my leg.

hey john! your progress looks great man, im glad to hear some of those highlights. i watched your video, and have some comments/tips.

-for some reason, everything you do looks difficult, like you are straining. i especially noticed how your butterflies seemed unnatural... try to smooth everything out, and make every movement efficent and as minimal as possible. i think this will make your style even better.
-for mirage moves, point the toe down during dexes... it opens up the window and makes for a smoother, more efficient dex.
-spinning looks great! try incorporating merkon, spinning pdx mirage and spinning butter more into your strings.

looking good man. you coming to uso/worlds this year?

Thanks Cale!

Regarding the stuff looking strained, infinities are something I've always seemed to have some form of problem with. I thought I fixed them for a while, but obviously not haha. And I've been working on pointing my toes on mirages a bit as well, but that's still a work in progress. And I'll definitely incorporate those other spins more. Thanks again!

I'll be at worlds but not uso unfortunately. Not in the budget

Thanks for the shout out on schmoe however gauntlet pales in comparison to that trick.

Your video was cool but I forgot to comment. I liked the whirr, good flowy strings, good DLOs and spinning also was that whirlwind at the end? sick stuff.

props on blurry whirl bsos and the scorp's tail.

Thanks dude!

I kicked again today. I had a pretty fun/good session.

I had two favorite highlights:

- 28 contact string with gyro mirage and spinning pdx mirage both bsos
- longish string that started with blur > dimwalk > rpt > ripwalk and continued to have blizzard bsos.

Both strings made me feel really good.

That's about it for now.

Kicked twice-ish today. Once this morning, doing just consecutives. Had a really good 20 minutes. The second session was with Drew and Will. It was a mildly decent session. Strings were there in the beginning, but just died out the rest of the day seemingly for some reason. Some highlights were:

- double pickup > flail bsos
- symp bubba bs
- ps whirl > symp bubba > osising drop
- toe grifter on one side
- double fairy on one side
- close to some cool drills.

I'm really tired now. Shower time.

i think the motif for our last session was 'the glass is half empty.' everyone seemed to be fighting an uphill battle to string stuff. i'm actually gonna take that tidbit about toe pointing and apply it to my mirages. course, my skill level is nowhere near where john's at, but i bet that'll help me.

Kicked with Will and Drew again today, but hadn't kicked since the last time I kicked with them =( School is getting pretty busy at the moment. Why can't it get busy after GRASS?

Highlights:

- A couple good long strings
- smoke bs (hit flipside first lol)

That's probably about it. Can't recall anything else super cool. I have work to do now.

Kicked with Drew again. I don't really remember exactly what I hit, just had a few good strings, and a lot of attempts at pdx drifter bsos. Footed it what seemed like a bagillion times with no ultimate success yet. Oh well. I also got atomsmasher > legbeater bs, and when I hit it flipside I went for the bsos but only got the atomsmasher and no link, so I then continued to go for what I thought was the other legbeater, but a while later I realized it was the one I already hit. Lame. And that was a fun run-on sentence.

On another note, I almost lost my ability to go to GRASS today. Originally, my dad was planning on driving us, but two days before Easter, he was told he had to leave for Japan on Easter morning by his work. He was there like two or three weeks ago too. He can only take so much sushi  But anyway, this current Japan trip was only supposed to last a week, but now he's going to be there a bit longer. So now my friends and I are looking to take the amtrak and get up there around 11 or so on friday night. My dad feels bad cause he was really planning on coming, so it's a big bummer, but it's not his fault. It's going to be an interesting train ride lol.

Props on smoke BS, if you've hit that you'll get pdx drifter in no time. I wish I had some really wonderful tips to give you on that trick, but no dice.

Thanks Nathan, I've hit pdx drifter bs, just not bsos, and hit it quite more frequently than smoke, which isn't saying much haha.

Just had my third session since my last post. No crazy highlights from either of the first two sessions. I did have some good stuff though. Some good drilling yesterday. I got butterfly > pdx mirage for like 49 contacts.

Tonight's session with Will and Drew was pretty good. I got a new guiltless record of 29. Hit some random cool things. Most importantly, I rolled my ankle pretty nicely. Oh wait, that's not a highlight. Oh well. I kept on playing after I realized it wasn't so bad. But I'm icing it now, and I'm going to kick lightly tomorrow at some point hopefully. We'll just have to see how it feels in the morning. Shouldn't deter my GRASS activities too badly if the way it feels right now is any indicator. *knock on wood*

My dad is also no longer being kept in Japan for work, so he'll be home tomorrow afternoon I think, meaning he can drive to GRASS, and we don't have to take the amtrak :)

So psyched

GRASS was awesome. I had half a long write-up done, but I never could get around to finishing it. School has been hectic since rochester. I've actually only kicked twice since then. Each time was with Drew and Will. Each session was alright I guess. In the first one, I hit rev swirl and swirl both bsos. Then yesterday was tap > atom bsos and pdx flail bsos. I actually had a fair amount of longish strings last night, but it didn't feel like it at the time.

I'm really hoping I'll be able to motivate myself to kick after my night class tonight. I would just kick now, but I have to do a 6 page paper for my class tonight. Fun.

Oh yeah, my ankle is still having pains. It's usually "fine" after I warm up for a bit, but I was having trouble simply maintaining good clipper form with it last night. So many infinities dropped on it when I was doing a string that was going to end up good.

Kicked last night with Drew and Will and today had my first solo session since rolling my ankle. Last night had it's ups and downs. Hit some new tricks that I got on video. I'll post that sooner or later.

Today's highlights:

- far osis > gyro clipper > rpt x2
- barrage > toe whirl > pdx whirl > rpt
- DLO > toe whirl > pdx whirl > rpt
- Magellan and PLO both bsos
- Spinning pickup and gyro pickup both bsos
- Ripwalk and sidewalk both bsos
- Stepping ss mirage, blur, and pdx whirl all bsos with ripwalk b2b.

Thanks, and I'll see if I can find that within the next couple days.

Just kicked in the city. Awesomeness. Had a fair amount decent strings I think. Finally bsos'd ps whirl. Finally. Got sun burn. Got dinner and three charlie horses with everyone afterwards at Veggie Paradise. I feel like there was so much more that I don't remember. Oh well. Footbag is awesome.

edit: I just remembered the thing I wanted to remember. I got 5 contacts of rubberman. I think I'm going to have nightmares about that last legbeater

Kicked with Will and Drew last night and today.

Combined highlights:

- dimmiest bs (yesterday. I actually kinda find it funny that I hit blurriest and scorpion's tail before this. At least I got this bs where as the other two are only on one side at the moment)
- a few pretty good strings
- blurry whirl > pdx flail
- 5.4 contacts of rubberman. ugh. I had the balance for the last legbeater, but I botched the set. ugh so close.

Today was my last session with Will and Drew for the semester. Lame. I've been spoiled, only having one solo session since the week before GRASS. But, now it's time for me to really hunker down and drill and work hard.

Ankle still hurts lol. At least it doesn't hurt while kicking, except with symple swirls. They just kill my ankle.

Kicked for the first time in nearly a week. I've had exams and such, but I just haven't been playing. I kinda try to justify it to myself, saying that I'm trying to let my ankle heal, but that's exactly that, an excuse. There was actually one day when i was going to play after after a final, but when i started walking back to my dorm, there were extremely random pains in my ankle. So maybe I'm justified a little bit. Today ended up being pretty darn decent.

Highlightz:

- phoenix bsos
- assassin bsos
- butterfly > double pickup > rpt
- toe whirl > schmoe > rpt
- toe whirl > blur > rpt
- toe whirl > blizzard > rpt

At that point, I continued my quest for rubberman. I got 5 contacts like 3 times :( Oh well, I'm still feeling a lot better with it

Now to figure out what movie to watch tonight on my brother's netflix account..
