ATTN: East Coast, we suck.

Didn't see this post till today but I definitely want in on this convo.

In the six year I have been playing, I have noticed a huge decline on the east coast. Even the major events have less people than they used to.

I LOVE Jay's idea to have a jam every month in a different location. I have only hosted one tournament because of money (I don't have enough myself and hate asking people for it). But I would be more than happy to host jams in the DC/Maryland area if people would be willing to come down here. And if their were regular jams, I would make it out to the far ones anytime I could.

Even apart from major jams in different locations each month, individual clubs should definitely make sure to have sessions weekly or bi weekly to keep the local scenes going. I know there are clubs that do that and we are guilty of not being so great about it in MD, but just a thought.

What John said about a "Try it yourself" station is a good idea, but people actually have to be willing to take a break from their shred circles to help new people. I can think of a couple events where this was part of it, and the entire time only me and a couple others were helping people who were interested in trying. Everyone else was too interested in shreding the whole time. And people certainly won't get interested when there is a crowd of people keeping to themselves.

Anyway, I am still proud to be part of the east coast scene and definitely don't think it is dead. Though, we should all definitely work to make it big again.
