It would be cool if there were a world ranking system(s) to determine the "best" freestyler.
The system I imagine would be based on how players place in Shred 30 and routines. The events would count equally toward a world ranking, so players wold be encouraged to compete in both events, since it would be hard to be the world's highest ranked player competing in only one of the two events at each tourney.
There would be 3 or 4 tiers or levels of tournament play, with Worlds being worth the most ranking points, large events like Euros/US open worth the next most, and tiers 3 and 4 for medium-sized and small events, being worth fewer points.
Winner of Worlds (Tier 1 tourney) routines and Shred 30 would get 1000 points, 2nd place worth 600, 3rd 500, etc.
Winner of a tier 2 tourney's Shred 30 would get 500 points, 2nd place worth 400, 3rd 350, etc.
Winner of a tier 3 event would get 300, 2nd-240, 3rd 210, etc.
Winner of a Tier 4 event would get 180, 2nd 160, 3rd 140, etc.
Someone should get on this and make it happen. It is absurd to not have a ranking system.
Why no freestyle world ranking system?

its a great idea,
But until the top guys have enough finances to make it to three or four of the same events every year, the ranking would be considered completely subjective since not everyone is playing in the same events..
Now if a big enough sponsor could jump on board to get the top 10 out to each of the pre-determined big events... then we could have a circuit/tour!

a player who does not compete on a world wide stage cannot be considered the best freestyler because he/she has never proven himself.
If Penske, for example, casn't make it to Worlds, then his ranking suffers. It is as simple as that.

I like this, but i think the smaller tournaments/jams should be worth less points as there are more European tourneys than there are north American ones. Or...at least that's what I think.

It makes sense, Good thinking Jeremy- you are still a freestyler
Theres the age old excuse, we cant afford to go to a tourney. Well then go out and recruit sponsors
Sponsors dont typically seek athletes, the athletes/managers find the sponsors by showing them what they have to offer. In Chicago Scott D has gotten some sponsorship when he tried, we at least got free platters of Quiznos
Thers also judging issues, one tourney might have completely different standards if all the people are at another level of freestyle than a different tourney. I liked the old USA system where every year they had east coast, midwest, and western regionals.

To answer some of the questions:
Players would only be aboe to count a certain number of tourneys toward their world ranking eash year. SO, let's say a player (with lots o' money) goes to 8 tourneys each year, his/her top 4 showings, plus whatever he/she gets at Worlds counts towards that year's ranking. A player with less money, as long as he goes to 4 satelite tourneys, plus Worlds, could achieve as many if not more points.
Theoretically, a player who only attends 2 or 3 tourneys, but plays well in them, could have more points than a player who counts 4 tourneys plus worlds toward their ranking.
As stated above in my first post, smaller tourneys WOULD be worth fewer points Zeb. I don't think you read my "proposal" carefully enough
Players who don't attend tournaments cannot complain about not having a world ranking; they don't deserve one.

This is something that could almost be done online (with Worlds being a percentage of the total ranking)
have a once a year online worlds...
Count some of the bigger events (Euros .. us opens, todexon) and of course worlds
and come up with a format

im down to start this and even keep track of it. So you think of the smaller tournaments it would be like the top 4 you placed in in that year?
