Post 400 in my blog! snap

Kicked yesterday and today on my back deck. The weather has been awesome but the lack of traction has almost been kicking my ass. I've been able to get by for the most part. Both were mostly drilling days, so not too many legit highlights, but here's some anyway:

- ducking far legover > ducking clipper > ducking clipper > rpt
- a good 23 contact string yesterday
- a good 25 contact one today
- stepping ss pickup > pixie ss whirl bs
- flip whirr finally 8)

After thinking about it, I first hit whirr back in november. Geez. Better late than never. I actually came kinda close-ish to flip ripstein as well but I'm not going to focus on that for a while.

Time to go to work

Let myself get frustrated and angry really easily today. That's a no no. Mostly worked on routine without much progress even though I've had the routine planned for like 2 months

Highlight:

- spinning ducking clipper > whirr

Thanks dude. I played a bit better today thankfully. Wasn't as angry. Who knew?

Well here's a short blog vid of stuff I recorded before I worked on my routine:

And I forgot to try flux. Today would've been the day to try it too. Oh well.

Thanks :)

So I got to go to East Coasts for the saturday. It was an utterly awesome trip. I'm not going to do a play-by-play write-up, but I'll list some things.

I got to kick with Dave Clavens a lot during the day. That was awesomeness within itself. He gave me a lot of good tips that I'm really going to try to apply. The tips ranged from making certain motions smaller to tricks that would look good with my style. And of course he was hitting crazy and cool links/strings all day.

I also got to kick with Sunil 8O When I saw him do a janiwalker, it just seemed so epic. I did, however, have a bit of an oops when i was first in a circle with him. I completely forgot the whole old school/BAP circle etiquette, so I'd do a self serve or two or three during the first few go arounds of the circle  When I heard him and Dave mention something about how people do that these days, I realized what I was doing and really tried to not do it again while in a circle with him. It was still awesome though.

I could've competed better. My routine had way more drops than I had hoped. Some/most of the drops were most definitely silly and careless mistakes. I at least feel confidant that I can really get it better for worlds if I actually practice it regularly instead of waiting till a week before a competition. Oh well. Good experience at least.

All in all, I really wish I could've stayed for Sunday, but work beckons and I do need money for worlds. I'm grateful I got to at least go the one day.

Later

I'm glad you were able to make it to East Costs bro. It was my very first tourney -- I saw some really good stuff from you in the pre-events shred and during your routine. Props!

Thanks Mark :)

Kicked today. My legs were feeling a bit heavy; probably because I haven't eaten the greatest this week. Oh well. Did hit smog and pigbeater both strongside. Also had (ss butter > osis > pdx mirage > rpt > ss butter > osis > pdx illusion > rpt) > rpt. Aside from some other stuff I almost overheated very nicely lol. Anyway.

NFYA!

I absolutely love the city, and I hope I can move there sometime after college. Doug Tank did an awesome write-up of the event, but I figured I'd also do a bit. And I'm gunna steal a bunch of pictures from facebook to illustrate even further.

The original plan was to work saturday morning and early afternoon, then catch a bus into the city, stay saturday night, then leave sunday night. Then, my boss told me I had to work until close on saturday, meaning I'd go in saturday morning and leave same day. THen, I was able to leave work early cause it was super slow, and there was enough people working. Yes!

Got into city by 7:40 and to Roosevelt island by 8:15 ish. Said my hellos with everyone and jumped into a hack circle for a little bit. We finally start making our way out. A bunch of us headed to Ben Cooke's awesome apartment. We spent a bit there just chilling. There was some bananagrams played while Ben and I were doing some juggling (which Johnny joined in on a bit later). MC, Johhny, Barrett, and I all headed back to Barrett's place for the night.

Sunday morning comes and the four of us all get up early to get ready to go meet up with David Clavens, his girlfriend Erin, and Ben Cooke at High Line park. That place was really cool. Whoever came up with the idea to turn an old high up rail road into a park to walk along was very smart. We hung there for a bit, and Erin took an awesome picture of the rest of us
Image
From there we headed to the Museum of Natural history for a little bit and gave a good walk through of that. Matt's mission was to see the depiction of the Gian squid and sperm whale fighting. Alas after a bit of searching, it was found
Image
Wow that picture came out smaller than I thought it would. Oh well. Anyway, from there we finally headed to Roosevelt island around 1 to start the footbag festivities.

From seeing who could do the coolest strings of tricks while not allowing the bag to leave your foot to the competitions, everything was a lot of fun. I hit some fs toe blurs and some whirrs and some ps whirls and such. String length could've been a bit longer, but I enjoyed it regardless.
Image
From there we all headed to Times Square to shred for a bit. That was a lot of fun. With Doug Tank's command to "do it," I finally hit rubberman 8) It felt so good. Then we later joined the circle using the fuggler bags to perform and all. It was a little hard to get acclimated to the large bags, but it wasn't horrible. After moving to a bit of a smaller bag, Johnny and Dave were hitting some very legitimate strings. It'd just be nice if everyone watching enjoyed watching as much as I did. We were coerced back to Roosevelt island to get dinner. Much applause was given for Ryan Thomas among others. Yeah Ryan! It was now time to head back to Ben's awesome place yet again. First, a few of us headed up to the roof to kick for a bit. I hit spender first try there, much to my surprise lol. We were having a lot of fun, but for better lighting, we headed down to the recreation room in the building. Now, I don't know if I ever wrote it in here, but I'm always on a bit of a quest to find Jon Schneider footage, cause there isn't enough out there. Thus, I also wanted to seem him hit his super cool ripsteins in person. So to do so, I asked him if I hit it, would he? He agreed and luckily I nailed mine first try. So then as if an odd dream came true, I got to see the epic Jon Schneider ripsteins. For the rest of that session I just kind of messed around (not that I wasn't the whole time anyway lol). As a side note, I need to get better about not trying to be consistent with strings as it gets later in the night. So when Jon had to leave, we made our way back to the roof to watch and kick a bit more.
Image
So for anyone who's paid attention to the time span as illustrated by the pictures, you might be thinking, "shouldn't John have left to go home by now?" Well kudos for paying attention. I actually called my parents earlier in the day to ask if I could spend another night in the city after Ben Cooke simply told me to. So I spent Dave Beyers and I spent the night at Ben's place. Ben's so awesome. He even let me sleep in the bed just because I had to get up really early. So 6:45 AM came and I got up to head to Penn Station to make the 8:07 train. I had to be home to get to work by 11.

Such a great weekend.

Today I went back to my old training method of setting a certain number of strings of contacts to hit. When I was doing 8 strings of 10+ contacts, that was good and all, but I needed more. I went back down to 4 and upped the contacts to 15+. I actually got it pretty easily-ish which was awesome.

Other Highlight like things:

- swirling monster bs 8)
- blurry whirl bsos two different times
- blender bsos
- dyno bsos with a blender in there too
- fog strongside

Now to go watch some cowboy bebop

I hadn't kicked during the 3 days prior to today, and I've been feeling it after today's session. Today was mixture of good and extremely frustrating. Good highlights. Took frickin forever though.

Goodies:

- 4 15+ contact strings
- blurry whirl bsos first try
- ps whirl bsos
- vortex bsos

Those are the memorable ones at least.

Now to plant some pagonias(?)

I haven't gotten to kick much lately, between work and heat and other excuses that seem to find there way in here. But I did have a pretty decent session yesterday.

I hit arguably one of my best strings ever when trying for long strings for Ken's longest string blog thing. It started off with a whirligig, ended on a flip ps whirl, had pixie bs, spinning bs, stepping b..... oh wait. I did 3 stepping sets in the string, all strong side :x I've noticed a lot more recently that stepping on my strong side shows up in strings a lot more than flip. It's so weird though because there shouldn't be any reason for it to not show up. I can hit any trick flipside that I can hit strong side maybe with the exceptions of whirligig and blurry drifter. But it's not even like those are completely out of reach. Even one of my "recent" sessions was drilling stepping the whole time. Gr.
I also tried some stuff that should be easy enough that I never hit before. So I hit slapping mirage bs and toe blizzard bs both pretty easily.

I was going to kick today too, but my stupid ankle is telling me no. I don't even know why. It's not the same pain as when I sprained it 2 months ago. Oh well. I'll be nice to it and see if it reciprocates.

Going into the city tomorrow to kick. Should be fun. When is it not?

Went into the city yesterday to kick with NYFA. Everything worked out so perfectly in a very convenient way. NYFA just happened to be having a sunday session because Ken S. and Ian Brill were coming to kick, and I just happened to have off of work, and my dad just happened to be planning on going into the city via ferry tickets. Sweet. It was awesome to finally meet Ian. Definitely a cool dude.

Shred-wise: It was sooo hot out. Geez. I didn't string entirely well for a lot of the day, but I think I still had some decent ones. There was one string with spinning ducking butter bsos with a blurry whirl that ended of dropping flip blurry whirl. Some nifty links here and there. But yeah, very enjoyable session.

Yeah yeah

Modded a pair of red and white leather lavers today. The fabric under the leather is black, so they actually look pretty cool for shoes that were just defiled. The plan isn't to make them my main main shred shoes. I just would really like to experience traction on my deck. Traction is something my mesh lavers undoubtedly and unfortunately lack. I'll be slicing up my newer mesh lavers soon as well. My current ones are starting to get quite worn. The sole on the right one is pretty worn and the left is catching up.

Had a session in the newly modded lavers too. It was pretty frustrating haha. It wasn't actually a bad session. I just need to break in the shoes better and get accustomed to the weight. At least I absolutely loved having traction 8) I got my 4 strings of 15+ contacts slowly but surely.

I really gotta get my butt in gear with working on my routine. I've relaxed enough already. Motivation!

Shred with Jordan was fun. He's improving pretty darn quickly. I didn't play all that well though. Oh well, it wasn't absolutely horrible.

Kicked yesterday and today as well. Yesterday was painful for some odd reason, but today was pretty good. Wore newly modded leather lavers both times.

Drilled some stepping and open sets in the beginning (hit against a door handle close to the end of drill causing a painful drop). I hit symp egg on one side and was dramatically close to flipside. I hope that word can accurately describe how damn close I was. Damn. That trick feels exactly the way I imagined it would. Is that weird?

Oh well.

I don't really know what to talk about anymore. I kinda felt like I had more to say, but I guess not.

Nighty night

edit: I just remembered the highlight I wanted to mention! Symposium whirl bsos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, that's right. It is oddly easier for me to bsos far symposium whirl (is that the proper DS notation?) than it is to bsos plain ole symp whirl. Gosh, I feel good about myself right now (not sarcasm lol). All this practicing finally paid off (kinda sarcasm). Darn you left leg for naturally being better at symposium, allowing me to kinda skip the whole symp whirl process straight to fs whirl on that leg. I've begun to have my revenge; properly learning symp whirls!

Haha

Had a fulfilling session today. Tried to drill most basic concepts and up their level slightly.

Highlights:

- blur > smear > dimwalk > rpt and ripwalk > sidewalk > rpt in one run
- pdx drifter finally bsos
- barfly bsos on two occasions.

There was some other stuff too, but this is what I'm truly pleased with.

hey man, great stuff! i cant wait to play with you at uso/worlds. which one are you coming to? coughbothcough.

hey i was looking through the old "post your collection" thread and saw that you had one of my pold solid 4 stitch 32's... do you still have it? was it good to shred with? i'd love to see it again if you dont mind bringing it with you to a tourney. re-united! haha. also, if you need a new one, i could easily have a custom 32 made for you by uso/worlds. let me know! 3 or 4 stitch, idk if you liked that solid pink bag w/ 4.

here's a challenge to hit before we see each other... i just hit it yesterday.

run w/ smoke and pixie ss drifter, and pdx drifter all bsos. blam.
