For someone that works in a hostel and travels reasonably frequently, I have made some fairly rookie errors in this trip.
So I missed the plane from Bratislava to Barcelona, a chance to see the sun.
I got back in the train to Vienna, and looked for a train heading west, I need to be back in London on Thursday. I am going to go overnight to Zurich, meet up with Flavio, no shred, it´s too cold, but we'll have a hot drink or something.
Kicked with Alex last night in a Vienna sports centre. Place was cool, they had basketball, beach volleyball, inline hockey and a bunch of other sports. After our sessions we had numerous games of table tennis, Alex totally dominated, however I did win the final game.
Not sure where to from Zurich. Maybe somewhere in France.

I got back from my trip, first day back at work today.
Had a kick with Caroline, it was a bit cold, so we didn't play for too long. Hit pdx torque as my last trick, then had to go straight to work. Came close to ingyro toe mirage, never hit that one before, had it on my foot, but couldn't control it.
In two minds about going to Worlds. I'm pretty sure I'll go, but it's going to cost me more than I want it to, I'm sure of that much. The Australian dollar is going down.
I wrote an article on Shredglobal.com about the current state of Australian Footbag, it ties in nicely with the article somebody wrote on Fourkast about the state of the world game (not THE world game that they're holding a world cup for next month, but the world of OUR game) . I don't think it says who wrote it, but by the content I'm guessing Andrew McGargar wrote it.
Australian Footbag is in a bit of a strange place at the moment. We have some good players, but a very small community. I think an amazing fact is that we have had somebody at worlds every year since 2004, as well as holding Nationals every year since 2003. On the organisational side we are going pretty well, but I think we are over-organised for a small amount of players.
I'll think more on this later, about my trip...
So I just huing out with my friends and drunk beer around the world. It's a bit weird talking to people because I didn't actually DO that much.

I flew with Air Asia, it was super cheap, honestly I had a better experience with them than Qantas. This probably had a lot to do with having a full row to myself in the first flight.
In KL I stayed in a sweet hostel, I was really impressed. That's actually the only hostel I stayed in.
I got into London and it was one degree- I thought it was meant to be Spring? The temp didn't improve a lot through my trip either...
I kicked with Matt Bailey in Trafalgar Square. We were approached about doing some performance for a guy making a clothing label. The guy seemed a bit suss really, I don't think anything would happen with that.
I visited quite a few museums in my time in London. I went to:
Science Museum
Natural History Museum
Imperial War Museum
National Gallery
British Museum
British Library
I also went on a tour at Wimbledon, watched the Canberra Raiders play live from back home (the match started at 10.30am, the rest of the day was spent drinking heavily). I got to see Break Even and The Ghost Inside, chucked a few stagedives and started a circle pit around a pole in another country. Mawds from Break Even is such a nice guy, we talked to him most of the night and he gave me a free shirt.
After that Raiders match we drank the entire day, then the next morning I could a plane to Bratislava. It was very cold here, as it was everywhere else in Europe.
I stayed with Alex in Vienna, it was cool to see all the Austrians again, we went for beers and Verena's place and Anita came too, as well as a couple of other guys that I didn't meet last year. One guy was Georg, but it's pronounced something like Jiwhog or something. I'm going into a World Cup betting competition with him and some other Vienna types, I could win 100 Euros, I think.
So the last day in Vienna I needed to get back to Bratislava. Even though it's in another country, it's only like an hour away. I was going to do some sightseeing, but once again it was far too cold, so I mucked around for a long time, and decided to catch a bus to the airport directly.
I got to the bus station in Erdberg, which must be one of the most horrible places I have been, it even sounds horrible. Errrrdddbeeerrggg. Blah.
Anyway, I had totally mucked up the timetables, the bus would arrive well after my plane left. So I went across town to catch the train, which I also missed, with the wait ahead I was not looking likely.
I had a crazy drive through Bratislava with a nutcase taxi drive, it was pretty wild. It also cost 30 euros, as opposed to 70 cents for the bus. Then I missed the plane anyway.
Wasn't sure what to do next, I went back to Wien to begin with. On the way there I decided that I would just catch the next train heading west. Innsbruck, Frankfurt, Munich were the places on my mind. I thought I may be able to catch a train right through to France, but I didn't really consider Switzerland.
I got to the Westbahnhof, Zurich was the only real option, it was probably the only place west further on than Austria. So I went there by the overnight train.
In my carriage there were a couple of interesting characters, one guy orginally from Zimbabwe, he had been living in London a long time, but now he was working in Austria. We had a good chat about immigration officers and how they are complete wankers, especially in England.
The other guy was from Indonesia, but he had been working on ships for many years. He had a much worse day than me...he had flown to Belgrade, but denied entry at the gate because of visa issues, then he had to fly back to Vienna, they told him he didn't have a visa for there either. Then he was going back to his ship in Linz, but it had already sailed to Passau. Tough day. We were checked twice by immigration police, the first had a quick look, no worries, the second were serious tough guys. Even in my passport, they spent about ten minutes looking through mine. I think what really got them was the idiot in Bratislava stamped my passport on Page 31. Some other idiot stamped me on page 16, so now I have all these blank pages and I'm going to face the same problem everywhere I go.
I caught up with Flavio, we went to a cafe that claimed to have the best coffee in town. I hate coffee, so I can't report on that, but their hot choc was pretty good. I booked a flight back to London, I was going to catch another train to Paris, but the TGV cost even more than a flight. Booking at the last minute meant I had to pay the big bucks, kind of annoying, because my original flights cost 30 euros.
I said goodbye to Flavio, wondered what I should do for 8 hours, then I bumped into my cousin. That was a bit strange because I hadn't seen here in about 5 years. Quite random, but gave us both something to do. It was raining that day, but the weather cleared up a bit and we went on a ferry around the Zurichsee.
I went back to Dan Smiley's house, it was good being in London the day before, meant much less stress. Didn't have any troubles with my plane home. Went to Brisbane for the night, saw Evergreen Terrace, was stoked, stayed with my friend Josh flew home the next morning.
So it was definitely an adventure. It was a long way to go for such a short trip, but when you're not working and need to pay rent, it's not easy to afford things like this on a long time scale.
So let's see how plans go in regards to going to Worlds. I'm still pretty keen to go, but I need to get some cash together first of all.

Haven't really kicked at all this week. The weather has been absolutely disgusting, rain, rain, cold, bad news. I've been reasonably busy as well. It seems like a long time ago that I came back from my trip, but that was only last week.
Saw flights to SF for under $1000 today, that's the cheapest I've seen so far. I've made up my mind to definitely go, but hopefully that price can hold for a couple of weeks, so I can clear some space on my credit card!

Haven't kicked much recently. Looking at buying my tickets for Worlds next week, should have the finances in order by then.
Have arranged a room for worlds, will be staying with Kevin Regamey, Roy Klein and Ryan Richardson. I think Worlds will be a lot of fun.
I haven't practiced a routine at all. I'm wondering if it's worth doing a new routine, or having another go and doing the one I did dropless. I like the idea of a new routine, and retiring my last one after performing it dropless.
It would be a let down to do it with 10 drops or something.
I have a four day weekend ahead, pretty excited about that.

Kanga Cup should be good, might find some footbag fiends.
It's been pretty cold, below zero most mornings, not much more above that during the day. I haven't really been kicking, which of course, is great practice for worlds.
Went to see this band 4 Dead last night, it was brilliant. I've got a car now, went to Sydney to pick it up on the weekend.

It looks like I will be able to go to Worlds, but only for a short time.
I've barely been training at all, it's freezing outside and I don't have a good indoor spot at home. Caroline is busy with study, Cope is hard to get out for a kick.
My knee has been hurting a bit lately.
I feel like I've been in a bit of an all round funk lately. I don't really know what's wrong with me, but I feel a lot of lethargy all around, and it seems like every moment I'm about to go to work.
Francisca is going to Japan next week. I wish I was going too, I think she'll have a good time. Maybe one day we'll go on a trip together...
But anyhow, I'm going to Sydney at least, so maybe I will get a kick in with the guys up there.
Australia play Ghana in the World Cup tonight. I'm not huge on confidence, but it would be nice if they won this, just to keep the last match interesting.
Seeing Break Even on Tuesday, love that band. So far this year I have seen them in Brisbane, Sydney and London, but not in Canberra. They're playing with Miles Away, their new stuff is great. Really looking forward to the show.

After I performed my dropless routine at Nationals, I did three stupid little jumps and then ran around like a madman.
I made very similar movements after opening my mail today.
It went something like
blah blah blah
Dear Daniel, have $500 to go to the World Footbag Championships
blah blah blah
I felt just as good as after I did the dropless routine. Hopefully this is just the beginning of more things to come.
Words don't really describe how stoked I am this evening.
Now I'm going to make burritos, then tomorrow I'm going to see one of my favourite bands.

Working on a new routine, going to do a performance on Sunday at the opening ceremony of the Kanga Cup. That will be a good opportunity for me to test this out, it is nowhere near ready yet, but I'm starting to get some key elements down.
Winter is upon us in Canberra. I'm sure the Canadians would be like, phhtt, -5, that's not winter. But it's still very cold, and makes warming up hard. I much prefer to play outside, we haven't really got any established indoor areas.
Went and saw Dangers/Graf Orlock last night. Was a real good show. Lots of fun. Last week when I saw Break Even/Miles Away, someone crashed in to me, I think I may have done some damage to my ribs or something, it's been hurting quite a bit. If it continues to do so, I'll go and see a doctor. I'm waiting to see if it gets better or worse, but it seems to be staying the same so far.
So anyway, at this show I stayed a bit away from the action, didn't want to make things worse.

Next year I want to go Euros and Worlds. Hopefully they will both be in Europe. (Spain/Finland is what I would really hope for).
I would probably do a trip involving London (cheaper flights into London)- Spain- Portugal- France- Germany- Denmark- Norway- Sweden- Finland

Played again today. Have played every day this week, keeping on with my target of playing every day.
Just under an hour, an hour of total rubbish.
Worked some more on my routine. It's coming together, slowly though. I'm not sure if making a whole routine is the best idea, but that's what I'm going to do.
Let's see how we go.
I hope the weather is very summery when I go to California. I felt almost ripped off when I went for a European spring, but it was colder than Canberra.
Looking forward to the weekend ahead. It's going to be very busy, but I think it will be a lot of fun.

Well, well, well. Today I did a demo to the biggest audience I've ever faced. It was for the opening ceremony of the Kanga Cup, the largest junior soccer tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. (Why this is not in South America is something I don't really get)
There would have been around 4000 people in the arena, mainly kids from the teams, there are more than 3000 players in the teams, with more than 200 teams. So, it's a pretty big deal.
Anyhow, I came out said "blah blah blah I'm really awesome I'm a big star look at me". I didn't really say that, should get rid of the quote marks, maybe that's what I meant though.
So I planned to do the routine I will take to Worlds. I came out on to the centre of the floor, gave a wave to the crowd, put the bag on my foot, then waited for the music to start.
Nothing.
Hmmm.
Play that funky music, white boy...
Still nothing.
I did a toe stall, inside stall, around the world, clipper, inside stall. Looked back at the audio, nothing doing there.
Went for a run. It must have been something like 50-70 contacts, kids were loving it. Woooooo. Yeah, that's awesome. You're my hero etc.
Earlier in the day I took a group from the Hobart Zebras on a tour at the AIS, I gave them a shout out and someone from their group yelled out WE LOVE YOU DANIEL
I did some of the major segments of my routine, had a few drops, and finished with a Double Around The World, then there was a huge round of applause. This was a pretty crazy experience. The area didn't really suit a footbag demo, but at least doing it will simply get people talking about footbag, which is always nice.

So I planned to do the routine I will take to Worlds. I came out on to the centre of the floor, gave a wave to the crowd, put the bag on my foot, then waited for the music to start.
Nothing.
Hmmm.
Play that funky music, white boy...
Still nothing.
I did a toe stall, inside stall, around the world, clipper, inside stall. Looked back at the audio, nothing doing there.
Went for a run. It must have been something like 50-70 contacts, kids were loving it. Woooooo. Yeah, that's awesome. You're my hero etc.
Earlier in the day I took a group from the Hobart Zebras on a tour at the AIS, I gave them a shout out and someone from their group yelled out WE LOVE YOU DANIEL
I did some of the major segments of my routine, had a few drops, and finished with a Double Around The World, then there was a huge round of applause. This was a pretty crazy experience. The area didn't really suit a footbag demo, but at least doing it will simply get people talking about footbag, which is always nice.
Good practice in the lead up to Worlds.
