Happy Monday.
Well, I woke up and realized I haven’t written in a while. I really do value this as a place to document things happening in my life so I feel like it is important to give an update on the current state of my life. If that is good reading material as well as historical backup, awesome. If not, at least I can look back on this in a few years and be happy about it.
Anyway, the current thing right now is that I am done with college. I finished up two Friday’s ago becauseI didn’t have any finals. I go back to campus this weekend to do the commencement ceremony. I took a picture with my girlfriend at the lionshrine, which is this famous statue on campus that you are supposed to get your picture taken in front of when you graduate. It has some stories behind it, people covering it in paint from rival schools and stuff. Here's the pic.

So college is done, and I am here in Bethlehem until June 16 when I go to Europe. I am pretty excited for my Europe trip, but there are things that I really need to do over my month here in the states. First, I need to make some bags. I have been stitching and made and sold a few, but I need to get my bank account a little higher before I feel comfortable going over there. If you are reading this and need a bag, the list isn’t that long, shoot me an e-mail at davidclavens at gmail dot com.
Besides making bags I should probably start kicking them more often. I had such a great session my last week of school with Nathan, but I am still weak compared to all the European players. I watch their videos and just wish I was back on that level. I wish I had the drive to say I’ll play every day until Euros but sometimes I just don’t. Kind of weird. I wish I was at my peak but I know I can be so much more hardcore than I am. Ugh! Stop complaining and get out and shred, David!
Magic is going well. It is so much easier to pick up a deck of cards then to put shorts on, drag out the carpet, turn on the stereo. The magic community and its structure is so much different than footbag. Like, 30x different. I guess it begins with two things, one called the International brotherhood of magicians and one called the society of American magicians. Two groups that have clubs in big cities. So, there is an ibm “ringâ€

Graduated on Sunday. Had some of my family come up for it, it was cool. I've been stitching like a madman. Hope to have a lot for Euros.
Went to a couple magic things recently, had a buddy film two new tricks. Check and comment:

Sorry David - iPhone camera, bad lighting, and I haven't played with the bag to break it in at all. It was fresh from the envelope.david wrote:lol that bag looks like absolute crap in that picture. Glad you dig it though, lol.

Hey,
who was that mentalist you went to see a few weeks ago? there was one who came to my school and he really had me going. I think his name was Chris Carter. He really turned me onto a lot of non-verbal communication stuff Ive been getting into.
And if you still have time, ill be emailing you after this about a bag. Figured id have get one from you sometime.
Have fun in Europe.

Watched a couple old Vasek videos. Took me back. I wish I had that drive and energy I used to have. I feel like all it takes is for someone to really dedicate themselves to a routine song and they can take it. I just have no desire to write down cues and practice it.
Played with Mike yesterday, that was good fun.

I've written pages trying to sum up my thoughts on where my game stands. I am disappointed that other parts of my life have eroded my skills, and the one time I go to Europe will be filled with me thinking "if I could only play like I used to". I'll do my best to ignore these thoughts, hit whatever tricks I can manage, and enjoy watching the level of footbag rise, whether that progression comes from my feet or someone else's.

Today is my birthday. I am 22 years old.
I could write pages about Berlin, Brussels, and now Paris. I have so many highlights that it would take hours to write them, but I may when I get back to the states. Either way, I have never felt so much kindness in my life. Everyone who has let me stay with them (Paul and Serge) have been amazing. The cities have been sick and I feel like I am learning a lot and expanding my horizons.
Footbag has never been so much fun, playing with players with such different styles. I am happy to be playing well and am pleased with the results from Euros, but to be honest, everyone is so good it is really anyone's game right now. I think that this is good for the sport.
More later.
