My challenge for modified is to achieve 50 registered freestylers for open routines BEFORE 50 net players (or 25 open teams) register for open doubles net.
We will see who achieves the 50-mark first.
Currently, there are 21 net players registered for open doubles net.
Currently, there are 16 freestyle players registered for open routines.
I am going to push for net players to register as quickly as possible to make the N.A. freestyle scene look bad .

To be fair, Doubles net is pretty much the same game they play on their own. Net players LOVE to play doubles net. Having new people around to compete against motivates them to enter the competition. Doubles net is what they do. It must be really nice to have events that reflect the best part of your sport, and the parts people actually practice.
People can be very good at freestyle, but still not care at all about the routines. It is not at all reflective of what people do when they are playing hack.
Well now it's 26 and 21, but in the end there will probably be more freestylers. If footbag culture is any indicator, most freestylers will register long after the net players.
I mean, people wake up to play net at the crack of dawn and most freestylers aren't even getting breakfast until noon.
What I am fearing about this process is that so few players from the US will actually register to compete at Worlds, that the International footbag world will realize 1) how small and lacking the freestyle scene is in North America, and 2) that Worlds should not return to N America for a long time because there is not enough "draw" to get European players here for the event.
It really is pathetic that so few players have registered, and it is sad that there will be fewer competitors at Worlds this year than in years past.

And just to prove that net players are way harder core than freestylers, we typically party until until 2-3 in the morning, and then wake up on little sleep and still put on a great show. Freestylers just like to talk about the tricks they hit and stitching.

You need to hang out with the finnish freestylers more.
Also I don't think it is not attractive to come to Worlds in NA.
It's just too expensive for young people who are still studying.

Sounds like you have something to prove, always pitting two completely different disciplines against each other. They are similar in that they both use a round object and feet are somehow involved.
I could care less what net players do, and I'm sure most net players feel the same way about freestyle. Though I imagine net is a ton of fun (so I ain't hatin' on it that's for sure)

from what i understood, back in January nobody had bid on Worlds, so Chris decided to do it in San Fran. so it was either San Fran or no Worlds. it wasn't a matter of "it needs to go back to NA".
Well I for one am too damn old to compete at any currently offered level of play. I am still considered old skool...maybe even ancient.
Give me a senior format and I'll pay my $100+ to enter. Senior being over 30...LOL Isn't that sad?
I don't party either, I am just too out of shape to play OPEN routines. But I support the idea fully
Watching the World Cup today I watched an American Bar full of Brazillian's cheering louder than any American's I have ever heard during any soccer event. Maybe if the USA took more of a shine to soccer, we might see more American talent make it's way over to freestyle and thus hit that 50 registered player's mark!

When Freestylers start grabbing their head after taking an elbow to the gut, footbag will be more like soccer.
When freestylers spend 58 minutes an hour kicking and chasing after the bag, 1 minute an hour providing excitement for the crowd, and 1 minute rolling around holding their knee because somebody elbowed them in the stomach, footbag will be more like soccer.
of course footbag is not soccer, but given that soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world and may use similar coordination, a huge local soccer scene would definitely support footbag imo. i used to play soccer
My town has a minor league soccer team, dozens of youth (age five-eighteen) soccer leagues, tons of educational institution based soccer programs and an indoor soccer center. Despite this, there is no footbag scene whatsoever besides myself. My friend Mario has played soccer since he was 5 and now coaches youth soccer and he used to play footbag with me for a couple years. We couldn't and still can't convince anyone on any of his teams ever to play footbag. Not one.
Soccer has almost nothing to do with footbag despite what the uninitiated mind would assume on face value. The same coordination does not apply. I can only juggle a soccer ball 3-10 times while I can kick a footbag for as long as I want. Different muscles are strengthened for both activities. I think a fair analogy to what you're saying would be tennis and boxing use the same coordination because they both use the arms and swinging motions. Sure, they are similar but the nuances of each activity amount to a great difference to the approach in training and theory leaving two dramatically different sports. Soccer is a physical team sport while (freestyle) footbag is a sports-influenced, artistic means of self-expression. The same logic applies to why net and freestyle cannot successfully be compared. Although, they are more closely related than soccer and footbag.
