Wow, so sick! Ianek you kill it in this video! I really enjoyed watching that - it's like a breath of fresh air to the sometimes stale freestyle trick selection people use.

I'd love to see these kind of tricks linked to some more traditional moves for some awesome hybrid action. Just seeing this video can inspire so many links!

Can't give you enough props for this.

You hit a good number of my rakes :)

A lot of them looked more wauxspin than rake, which is probably evident by the names you listed. Forgive me if I don't have all 93 name changes down.

Actually the topic of a descriptive system broke out in a war at my house. Basically it was flat our rejected by my roommate (I won't name names, but if you know me, then you probably know who I am talking about). While I can see the need to make/invent some names for moves like rev. whirl (which BTW was named slice about 10 years ago by ME, but was clowned by member's of BAP who insisted rev. whirl was not a legit move. These same BAP members are listed as your helpers on the project as well  ), I think you are gonna make more enemies than friends by renaming moves like Butterfly, which are staples to the sport. I don't want to argue whether renaming is good or bad, I personally think a little of both, but I will say that Tony Hawk would never rename ollie simply cause it sounded less than manly. (looking at pixie/fairy as an example). Renaming also invalidates the work of pioneers like Rippin', but I think you stated that on Fourcast.

Regardless of which side of the isle you fall, the work you did should be applauded as it is no easy task to take that on.

That said, I agree with Laroche, that these moves would be sick intermingled with regular shred. (I'll show you what I mean in a few weeks  )

I think it's funny whizz caught on somehow. Crowley and I didn't really even tell anybody that we called whilrling inside whizz. It was a joke name between us and now some dude is hitting flying double whizz. lol hit swirling gee whizz

Anyways, most of those moves are fucking sick. You even hit a couple of moves that I dreamed of but could never hit. Props.

This seems a little silly to me.

Which part was the "work":

Dreaming up, then hitting something that no one had ever done before?

...or thinking of a word to go along with it?

I don't think anyone is looking to "invalidate" history, and I'm surprised some are viewing it as such.

It's a young sport, and this is progress. :)

Google trends seems to confirm that this is a good time to make fundamental changes.

Oh it wasn't my opinion. I think some renaming of a couple of moves and sets was warranted. I told my roommate about this and he flipped out!

However, I do feel like I need a "Footbag" to "Footbag" translation dictionary now. LOL

This reminds me of the time I met Eric Wulff and I asked him about trick names and adds, and his response was, "I just like hitting tricks, don't really care what their called or what add count they have."

I am also starting to feel this way. When people ask I give nicknames, too complicated trying to get into the actual meat of the sport. Although when I kick with Dale he always has tons of questions, and when I explain it to him, we both agree the system is fucked, so anyone who tries to FIX IT, gets props from me!

Those are some pretty esoteric moves; I feel kind of bad for Ianek having answer queries like this. Why not try to help with the naming convention instead of dumping the responsibility of finding the correct name to moves no one ever does to someone else? Yes, him and others created it, but the idea is to have everyone contribute and shape it up to something we're all satisfied with and something usable.

I think Nate is more trying to make a point than he is dumping a transcription job on Ianek (that being, "there's still a bunch of holes in this thing").

Ianek, please comment.

I love DS and I love how it can account for the INSANE moves from the video in the start of this thread. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.

I'll bite Nate. I don't think "shoulder ducking" is accounted for in the DS, but I'm not sure that is enough to discount the whole thing due to its "obvious remaining holes". I'll write it below as I understand it, and as I think it would be best understood by the masses.

- (barefoot) clip > gyro torque
- out > open switch out > open switch out
- clip > (near shoulder diving) osis > (near shoulder diving) osis
- clip > quick symp whip rake > near mirage fly
- clip > symp swirl spindle/gyro symp (whirly) mirage in - depending where you decide the spin is...
- clip > stepping (whirly) mirage in > diving rake
- out > atomic down
- clip > far double switch out
- clip > diving in berger ( > walkover)
- clip > (near shoulder weaving) clip > osis > far down > ducking clip > (near shoulder weaving) clip > ...
- toe > drifter tilt (BADASS)
- clip > stepping far down > unwrap > near double down
- clip > swirl tilt > near blender
- clip > spinning tilt > open down
- clip > double spinning tilt
- clip > mixer out > (near shoulder diving) clip > osis > far down > ducking clip > whip > mixer > open down > far down > whirl rake > down > far mirage > open clip > ducking clip > unwrap > osis > ....
- clip > far shoulder hit > near whirl
- clip > far eggbeater out
- clip > double mirage in > wrap > stepping far down > ducking clip > far down > far down fly
- clip > stepping far illusion in > wrap > stepping far down > ducking ...
- in > quantum down > far (symple) tilt > far down > ...
- clip > spinning ducking clip > unwrap > gyro mirage
- clip > stepping far eggbeater in
- out > open near (whirly) mirage in > osis
- clip > far (blind?) refraction dragon/far (blind?) switch out - depending what position you decide your foot is in...

That was fun. Awesome tricks, my friend.

I will speak to the DS with regards to esoteric stuff. I spoke with Ianek about sets like 'wiggle'.

NO ONE does them - except ME and maybe Mr. 84 himself. So on the whole this is not something that is defined in the DS currently. Ianek's point being that there is no need for a definition today, as it is not mainstream enough.

So I proposed this: "Say Vasek or some other world champ starts hitting 'wiggle' sets, odd tricks (like Nate pointed out), etc...?" His answer is that we would then recognize them and add them to the system.

What I liked about his answer is that he is open to updates to the system to accomodate invention and the times as they change.

I explained a few of my theories about difficulty to open ears, which is a nice change from a lot of the close mindedness I have seen over the past 12+ years in the sport.

Phat tricks Nate!!!!

So was Nate actually curious about what the tricks were called, or was it just a challenge on the system?

I'd also like to hear his take on Shoulder ducking, but maybe this isn't the place.

PERHAPS OAKLAND IS THE PLACE
