Post any random thoughts you have here:

-A rational decision only makes sense if I can rationalize it myself
-if i was in the desert for 40 days with no food or water, I'd also think i was the son of god
-good thing carpenters don't bite their nails
-bartenders never pay attention
-sometimes i feel like I'm still trying to be what I used to be
-gas stations have shitty coffee, but so does starbucks

edit:
-are time machines really financially feasible? U could go back in time, get eaten by a dinosaur, and the expensive machine is just left behind. I guess the fact that we've never found fossils of a time machine means that it will either a) never be invented, b) will have insane safety features, c) time machines can only go into the future, or d) time machines are a ridiculous idea.

-Parking a 15 passenger van in narrow parking lots sucks. Been doing it for 1.5 years and still haven't pulled it off after initial turn-in yet.
-I don't understand people that try being activsts by simply modifying a corporate logo to meet their agendas. Media plays a big part on pushing beliefs, but is only changing one medium of media (usually corporate logos) really an effective strategy? i.e.

will only effect <1% of the population.
To reach your goals, you need to use every medium possible and make sure it reaches a large percentage of the population. Load up their websites, send someone into a large scale printing company to change advertisements. You're just playing into yourself, thinking that you are changing the world and self-fulling some image you want to portray. If this change, which I strongly agree with, is going to happen... the tactics need to change.

We're all made of stars. [Stars start off as Hydrogen then compress to Helium etc eventually leading to the heavier elements (gold, carbon-us).]
Then the star exploded and sent those elements sailing and our solar system and we were formed.

I wonder if parts of someone else in the world and I were once part of the same atom. Or if part of my old elemental self is in another galaxy.

Very unlikely that any component that has made you up has left the Earth's atmosphere. I would say that it's certain that some the electrons that make up your body were once part of other people. I think it's also probably certain that the nucleus of atom has split and you now have part while another person has another part. In particular atmospheric nitrogen can be transformed into a carbon (14) atom and proton (hydrogen) when cosmic rays hit it. It's almost certain that some of the carbon in your body and some of the hydrogen in your body was once part of a nitrogen atom and that the other part of that nitrogen atom is in another person. I'm not sure about the time frames of this process, but it could be possible that the nitrogen atom was also once part of a person. It's certainly possible (and indeed probable) that it was once part of another animal like a dinosaur. Of course you have basically an incomprehensible amount of these atoms in your body, and it's probably only a small percentage that meet these criteria. Pretty cool to think about though

Well I'd say with certainty that a fair few, probably the vast majority, of your atoms were once part of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs existed for something like 160 million years, and the majority of major elements in your body exist in cycles that pass through life, so it seems probable that in that 160 million years they would have passed through a dinosaur.

It is really hard to properly comprehend how long 160 million years. The way I think about it, is that the mountain that the city I live in is built at the bottom was not only formed in a quarter of that time, but when it formed it was below ground level in sediments (essentially molton rock coming up through the ground, but not high enough to get to the surface), but then since the molton rock came up, the entire rock surrounding it has been eroded away so that you're left with a 1200m mountain. So 40 million years is approximately the time it takes to eroded rock down a little over a kilometer. Dinosaurs were around 4 times as long, most elements in the biochemical cycles probably existed within them at one point.

I just wanted to add, and I'm just speculating here, indeed that whole post was speculation and I may have got some figures wrong, but it's probably some of the carbon in your body that is the only significant amount that has gone through dinosaurs because humans have increased the atmospheric carbon from 280 parts per million to 380 ppm, and most of that is from burning fossil fuels that are the remains of buried life from the carboniferous period - some 80 million years before the dinosaurs. So probably a third of your carbon has never been in a dinosaur and all the rest of your body has, at least that's what I'd presume.

Realism just doesn't seem to apply to the educated and rational. Although, it still can explain a lot of some people's behavior.

Most recent communication technology has rendered most of my generation unable to socially connect in the way past generations have depended on. Being facebook friends doesn't equal a tangible, honest human connection.

Elliott Smith's music just isn't depressing to me. I get stRoked listening to it.
