well hello there modified. fun session with nick and jackson last night. i just started jogging this week so my legs weren't as responsive as usual, but that's cool. jogging really sucks, but i think it will be good for weight loss goals, and for building endurance and strength. hopefully will be feeling pretty fit for funtastiks. still doing the new job thing, and that's going well. and tonight I'll have the heavy duty electrical circuit for my new power tools hooked up. I should have my first projects underway by thanksgiving. that will be pretty gratifying considering how long of a road it's been to get to this point. plan right now is to build and sell right from the start. first efforts will be low-precision-required pieces such as adirondack chairs, outdoor benches, porch swings.. stuff like that.
side note: if you have the opportunity to buy a footbag from zachatree, do it. that kid can stitch. nice guy too, lots of footbag potential.
side note2: nick is getting better so fast right now it's just nuts.
edit: tomorrow's my 34th birthday. I'm not the best 34 year old hacky sacker that's ever lived, but I'm pretty happy that I'm playing at a decent level and progressing and enjoying the sport still at this point. Since I started at around 20 years old or so, it's been 14 years of fun so far.

Woah! I've only finished the previous page worth of blog...I feel like I've missed a whole season of a television program, hahaha. Mega props for all the great things going on, man, I'm super happy to read that.
Did you end up going to that festival in Selinsgrove? I grew up real close to there. There's some good fishing in nearby Sunburry where the Susquehanna River runs through.
Ok. Back to the backlog...

matt beal, you better be at funtastiks or it's on til the break of dawn. also, as I pm'd you (and you never replied to it) i'll be up for thanksgiving so we will kick then.
i'm in mega-training course at work last week and next week. it's brutal but I'm kicking butt. there are tests each day that you have to pass in order to stay with the company. i've gotten 100% on most of them. go me.
despite all day training each day, i've been keeping up on my workouts nicely. i do 1 set of lifting, 1/2 my kicking session, 1 set of lifting, the other 1/2 of my session, 1 set of lifting, jog about a mile, stretch. i haven't lost a single pound yet, but it'll work.
in footbag news, looking forward to funtastiks. i can only go saturday night but i'll get a good session in with whoever isn't too cool for school or "saving their legs" for the big bad competition (competition.. yawn) or whatever. I think I will play pretty well if I rest my legs a day ahead of time.
edit: oh yeah, for my birthday, my family got me a really nice router for woodworking. I'm sooooooo close to furniture making. What a long strange trip it's been.

Just wanted to let you know I still read this thing. Hopefully I can make it to Funtastiks this weekend, and if I do I will make it my top priority to play with you on Saturday. Bring a basketball too, and maybe we can find some lit outdoor courts, or just outdoor courts and play before its dark.
Crossing my fingers I'll see you this weekend...it's been way too long.

Sorry dude, I'm always way behind on everything now. Hahaha, busy, busy.
I'm going to be in NYC for Labor Day, or I would come out.
Hopefully I can make it out for Thanksgiving, though. I don't know what I'll be doing with my family, but at least this year I have a car that works, so that won't be a problem. Haha.

yay! gonna see ken for the first time in YEARS. really cool
Actually ken, I'll be in Monument CO for a business trip in December and could possibly extend my trip if it's anywhere near where you'll be living...
matt, damn. hopefully turkey day. I'll call you soon.

finished my 2 weeks of hell classes, and got a 98 on the final, and averaged a 96 overall. pretty damn good, the class was no joke at all. I was home before lunch and just spent a great day with the kids and wife. Then we celebrated last night so I'm feeling rough now.
leaving for funtastiks in a few hours. or, I should say, I'm leaving for hotel shred in a few hours, since I won't be down at the actual event by the waterfront on sunday. looking forward to shredding with everyone tonight and then hanging with drew m. and camping etc. yeah, good times!

too bad, would have been great to see you david

had a total blast at funtastiks for the short time I could go. highlights:
- Nick getting some nice recognition for where his game is headed
- seeing old friends and having time to kick and laugh with some of them. specifically, jon, ken, scott, ian for a good portion of the night each.
- finally meeting nathan from chicago face to face.
- bottle top popping with a full can of beer. it was a fonzy moment, you had to be there.
- chilling and camping with drew and dave from NYC was awesome. just really nice, funny guys.
- and I played ok too. 4 hours worth. i'm still sore today. ha ha
i'm sure I missed a lot.
oh yeah, being told I'm a presumptious rock star wannabe for telling everyone to shred on saturday night. that should be on the highlights list. too funny. whatever.
damn, i'm remembering more.. meeting mat from quebec was great too. and seeing kenny and kendall however briefly.. and bruce dole.. and the v-neck was awesome... IPA growler, yummmm. free pizza.
overall, saturday night shred scene was so fun in my opinion.

note to self: must hang out with josh tripp when visit my folks for thanksgiving.

Yo Bob! I'm coming home this weekend! Hopefully we can find a night to shred. It was awesome seeing you at Funtastiks! The hotel was just like your shred barn, just more people, and no push-ups. Thanks for being so patient with me throughout my crappy shred sessions this year and still giving me drills and tips and really inspiring me to go for it. When I won first, you were one of the huge inspirations for me to kick major ass. Before I walked out there I thought about when you said my style was made for routines, and positive, helpful, and encouraging you've been. I really wanted to make you proud as my Sensei. So, Sensei Bob, we'll be in touch this weekend. Peace man, looking forward to kicking again.
ha ha, young grasshoppa, you are on the right path. glad i could help in any way.
kicking this weekend would be great, text me later on with times etc.
---
note to self: your back KILLS when you decide to pretend you're 10 years younger and shred for 4 hours straight and then drink and then sleep in a tent. ha ha, last 4 days have been recovery days, but I'll be kicking tonight.
in other news, i'm helping to coach Keegan's pee wee fall soccer league again, so that's going to be fun. starting up next week. and both kids are off to preschool on monday. they're both pumped about it.
Keegan also turns 5 years old in about 2 weeks. Hard to believe. I'm going to soup up his jungle gym as a present. And we'll have a party in the back yard with the moon bounce etc. (yes, we own a small moon bounce.. best purchase ever)
so good not to be in training, glad that's over

well, we took our house off the market yesterday. Barring a last minute offer from the showing we had a few days ago, or from one of the earlier showings, we won't be moving.
And, honestly, sometimes I think that life forces you into the right decision. I think staying is probably the right thing to do. We were ready to upgrade, but I guess we're meant to continue improving our existing place.
So, trees will be planted, fences installed, siding on the barn... and we hope to put a small pool in in a year or two.
I would have really missed the barn, so I'm happy from a selfish standpoint. I would have liked to provide a bigger home for the wife and kids, but they tell me they're happy too. And life here is inexpensive, so over time, we should have the house paid off very early.
Anyways, I had a really fun session in the barn last night. Kicking with nick and zack and jackson the other day, and pretty much being invisible at funtastiks, convinced me that some drilling might be a good thing. And it was.
Current method.. I went through my footbag trick cards and picked about a dozen tricks that are solid for me overall, not terribly taxing on my body, and need some brush up on weakside.. and that pile is my warmup pile. I do all the tricks in that pile on both sides about 5 times.
Then, I picked through the rest of the pile for stuff that I do, but have a defficiency at.. or stuff that I'm really close to being able to do.. And I give each trick about 10 tries both sides and then move to the next one. I do that until practice is over and get through as many tricks as I have time to do.
Finally, I do the warmup pile one last time. One hit on both sides.
Took me an hour with weight lifting mixed in. Then jogged a mile.

Oh man, I know you guys really wanted a new spot, but for now, I'm so glad you're going to be staying. The shred barn would have cried. I've been doing what you suggested man, my flipside already feels stronger! I'll keep you updated, and can't wait to kick again! Good luck with the new footbag method!
yo nick. i think it'll be great that we're staying. Moving had some really good pros, but staying has some really good ones too. Just gotta make the best of what you have. Barn shred all winter will be awesome.

Pushed hard in practice last night. highlights:
- weakside spinning clipper > weakside DLO
- weakside diving clipper > weakside drifter
- weakside smear every time I tried it
- weakside atomic ss mirage
I forget what else. Lifted during practice as usual and then went jogging and shot baskets after. I can't play until next week now because it's Keegan's birthday weekend. 5 years old already!! Wow.

keegan's birthday weekend was awesome. I setup the yard with the moon bounce, "tent land", soccer, t-ball, toddler-sized roller coaster thingy.. and in the barn, I had their huge building blocks and super heroes... and on the porch we had a big arts and crafts table. oh, and on the basketball court, I had a dozen different kinds of balls and all sorts of trikes and bikes and scooters. the kids had an awesome time and keegan made out like a king. he deserved it.
last night, despite a cold that set in by the end of the weekend, I got back to kicking. surprisingly, out of nowhere, brian returned and shredded with me. he hasn't lost much in his 1/2 year off from kicking. and apparently, I haven't gained much (other than weight) in that time either, as he said "boy, you still look almost as good as when we played last". nice. that was depressing. whatever.

who is this drew guy that's replying in my blog? I know a Drew Martin, but that's not him... hmmmmm... must be a stranger.
----
kicked with brian last night. I play poorly when I play with him, almost without exception. I find it difficult to get pumped because he can't tell the difference between my runs, and doesn't really know what's hard in some cases. But, that was good because I just spent time working on all the stuff I can't hit yet. Which amounts to a practice of no strings, solid proof that gravity still owns me, and lots of soreness from motions that are not comfortable for me yet.
And tonight, Drew Martin is coming over to kick. I plan to continue to work on stuff I can't hit, so I'm sure he'll be really excited to watch me drop a lot.
