Camo G Units any good?
Camo G Units any good?
I found a pair of Camo G Units and snatched them off the Internet.
They look good. Does anyone know if these are playable like all the other G Units out there?

So I got my Goonitz in today and first impression; I love these shoes.
Forgive my ignorance, but I have a few questions:
These are mesh padded shoes, so I still mod them like they were leather? The inside material is a nice black material that will look sweet.
Also, what is the break in time before I mod them?
Thanks,

Hit search and found a few threads. Would love to read Jorden or Dave's blog, just too many pages to sift through.
Read that O'Wheel modded them Laver style. Has anyone done the leather style mod to them?
What is the difference? I am bringing them to worlds and hopefully will find some players who have them also.

Yeah you can mod them Laver style.
The funny thing about the camo G-units is that they have three fabric layers. So, it's like camo material > foam > thin white padded mesh > black cloth mesh. I've seen these shoes modded mesh Laver style, modded with the camo exterior and foam picked off, and with nothing but the black cloth mesh remaining.
I think my personal favorite mod of the camo G-units is the one with just the black mesh and white padded mesh left remaining on the shoe, and the guy who sports this mod is one seriously guiltless freestyler (Matt I. of NYFA).

Just take care when modding the G-units down to the inner mesh layer (in your shoes, black mesh layer) because sometimes in larger sizes that layer tends to peel or rip itself off from the sole, leaving a huge hole around the clipper area. For whatever reason this might be, I just believe that Reebok wants to cut costs and just have that part glued down instead of having it reinforced with stitches.
I've seen this happen in around size 10s and up. Not sure about any sizes below that range. Modding the shoes Laver style, or leaving the white padded mesh intact won't have this problem.

They are so nice even padded, that I might just do the Laver style mods on this first pair.
I got a pair of NY Yankees coming today or tomorrow ($128 ouch!) that are leather that I hope to bring to worlds as well. Maybe see how Boychuk modded his.
These shoes are so light. We need a china clone of these.

The laver style mod worked out great. The toe is just like a laver as is the inside surface. I do an advanced toe box mod to my lavers and have yet to actually do the same for the G-Units. So I have that annoying speed bump on the tongue, but it only seems to affect my rake game, my standard toe game is fine.
I have a pair of leather ones as well. I did a super nice toe box mod that I intend to repeat on the Camo Gs. I can't seem to get use to the bucket on the leather insides though, I need to invent something to make it a bit more playable for my style of play. They are also a half size larger which makes them not as tight on my foot.
I prefer to play in the Camos cause I am use to Lavers, and so far I feel lighter in them and daring enough to try tricks a bit more difficult than usual.

this sounds pleasing to my brain
heres something you can try on the toe, i looked at the toe on em and it looks about the same as quantums
lace them so that you can stall a tiny bit onto the tongue of the shoe, it makes it much easier to control the bag when its farther back on your foot/shoe, this really helped me
so this shoe basically sounds like to me is a rod laver that looks better and has a super good anti roll off sole?
