The "average" footbag player

This comment got me thinking; what is the average footbag player like? In the NBA every year, they record the height/weight/wingspan of every player in the league. Then they release the physical characteristics of the "average" NBA player. You could also do average salary, etc.

All this got me wondering: what is the average footbag player is like? I think it's safe to say that he's a white male in his late teens or early 20s. But I wonder about other things, such as occupation, height, etc. How many players does he regularly play with? Is the "average footbag player" guiltless? How long has the average player been playing? Does the average player use lavers still? How many tournaments a year does the average player attend?

This is probably a useless mental exercise, but I thought they were interesting questions, and was curious to see if anybody had any thoughts.

From the available data, it's clear that Zac Jackson lives in the ocean.

Apparently the average footbag player can't make a serious post on modified... :P

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Average footbag player lives probably somewhere in the ocean. Wink
From my tournamnet experience I'd say he lives in Poland.

If you Ken or anybody else will make a questionnaire about this I'll be sure to answer. All characters Ken Ken points out are interesting at least to me.

I'd guess lighter weight rather than heavier? Taller rather than shorter? From my experience I'd say he plays with... 1.7 people on a regular basis. He uses Lavers and has been playing for 4.5 years.

Does that sound reasonable? It's my guess anyway :P

Yeah, good observations, Dante.
I would change tall to medium or short though.
I would also say U.S.A., as opposed to Poland.
And I would say he smokes pot and isn't very dedicated to actually getting better, and hence trains poorly, neglecting the basics.
Is male.
Is probably also awesome or mediocre at some other obscure talent.

I have been thinking about this question for a long long time and now that I don't play to compete (in my mind) I can stand back and reflect what I see as "average".

The Average Footbagger:

- Is medium height - 5'5" - 5'8"
- Believes in the practice, practice, practice mentality
- Is from Europe
- Is Male
- Has a very Robotic text book style
- Can hit whirl on both sides
- Can hit both ducking and diving clippers in a drill (which I cannot)
- Is OCD
- Laughs at flamers on modified, but doesn't insight flame wars or respond to negative posts
- Has met Steve Goldberg at least once
- Came into this sport with Nemesis already invented
Go out and shred already.

I've always wondered if the average footbagger tends towards the nerdy type (engineer, programmer, geek, etc), or creative type (artist, musician). Any thoughts?

I think the average player enters footbag as a beta male, an awkward teen, and then after a few years of progression turns into a cool alpha and goes on to do crazy things with their lives.

It's like the ultimate bootcamp.

I think it's kind of funny that this thread is right next to the Footbag Demographics Survey thread; we'll be able to determine "real" averages from data like that.

Hence the "real" in quotations :) they'd be less skewed than pulling guesses of our butts on this thread ...
