Where are they now?
Where are they now?
I have thought about starting this thread for a while now, but for whatever reason haven't. I searched using the modified search and searching with google and couldn't find anything like this, but if there is someone let me know.
Newer players probably wont know some of these guys.
I'm curious about what happened to certain players out there? Ones that frequented modified, ones that didn't. The kind of answers I'm looking for are, are they still playing? Where do they live now? What are they doing with their lives? and also so that we here on modified can discuss older players and share memories.
I few that come to mind are ones like...
Yacine Merzouk. I heard that he had moved to Hawaii and is writing erotic novels.
Chris May. Shredster on the forum. I don't recall if he ever posted since modified made the switch from .ca to .in. He was a player who played alone all the time and got pretty good, I think he was from OR.
Trevor Hibbs. He was the sticher who made Jbags. He would hit some good combos but couldn't string too much. From the east coast I think.
Juan Rangal. And all of Cloud 9 for that matter. Juan had one of the smoothest styles I have ever seen, and also was able to rock a polo when he was playing, which not everyone can do.
Stephen Barnes. I have talked to him not that long ago, but hes a name that people might have forgotten about.
Fletcher Funk. I know that he is still living out in California, and that he had to stop playing due to some serious injuries. Good guy, would like to see him around sometime.
Alex Urano. I'm friends with him on facebook, but we never talk. I don't know why he stopped playing or if he ever does anymore.
Rob Fuller. When I first joined modified he was posting here all the time and was the main MOD. I think he may have started the site. Never got to meet him but saw some videos of him before he had a mental breakdown about footbag and modified.
Mike Hansen. I know he is still around, but seriously, I talk to him once a year and then don't ever hear from him or hear anything about him again.
These next two are more for Chicago guys.
Shawn Boyle. I talked to him a few years ago about hockey. I think he is still living in the Chicago area but no longer kicking.
Josh Elmhurst. I met him at my first NYJ then never saw him again. He was super friendly and a good guy.
Sam Potter. Last time I saw him was at Worlds 07. Him and I didn't talk to much. Not sure if he plays anymore, but he was really good when he did.
The entire West Virginia crew. Bob Glasser, John Mahood, and Brad Nelson. I see Brad and Mahood post every 8 months or so, but other than that I have no idea what they are up to.
I don't remember his real name but Setman (Kamil Hucal? or something like that). He was a good player who had lots of potential, from Proland or Finland I think.
Riku Ahola. I think he is brothers with Samu, so we could get an answer easily. I'm also friends with him on facebook so I could just ask him, but that defeats the purpose of this thread.
Byrin Wylie. Shredmentons own, who was super good. I knew he was fighting some injuries last I heard. He just had a birthday a few days ago.
Peter Brocka. I have seen never players with his laver mod who probably doesn't know who he was. He was the guy who invented revstien, and probably other reverse swirling tricks.
These are just ones that I could do from memory, by all means if you have any more add them. And if you have any answers that would be great.

According to some footblog Sam Potger is still playing.
What happened to:
Olaf Piwowar- Seems like 07-08 he was top 5 or so in the world. nemesis> food> gangta party, some other 08 vids, then one 09 video, and then first at some jam this year. What? Some of his combos
wow! What happened?
Sergey Kozlov- 2nd at worlds and some other impressive videos and nothing else...
*Ricky Moran- 2004 he was very very good (and young??)and then the next video is 2010! I know he was injured but that is a long time!
But if he was injured for 6 years...thats more impressive because he is still good.
Ivan Andras-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEatBplWDqo
That is it? Never heard from this guy again
*Mikko Lepisto- Basically the same thing as Ricky Moran. Some 04 Worlds videos, circle at euros one year, BOTS, and then his next appearance in a video is reindeer games followed by whirling swirl and thats it
But I never heard of an injury.
* Still play as far as I know, but they were that good and nothing for that long

me and yogan had one session with chris may in talent, OR about three years ago. he was hitting bops and a few four adds. never heard from him since. me and yog were newbies at the time, so im guessing he just didnt want to play with us anymore. too bad, cause from what i remember me and yogan are better now than he was then. would have been sweet to have a third RVFA member.
Kamil Hucał (Setman) was stopping playing and comming back to the sport all the time due to lack of motivation to play. He is from Lublin, Poland and he was the only player in his city. A few years ago he stopped for the last time and never came back. I haven't seen him for a while but footbag.org and our forum say that he'll be at our tournament Wilanow Cup this weekend. I'll ask him what's up
.
Olaf Piwowar can still bust really well! Right now as far as I know he's preparing his form for next years by going to gym and doing other non-footbag stuff.

Re: Where are they now?
Was in Chicago for Windy City Cup this summer. Plays net, I guess he threw away his freestyle shoes. But he freestyled with us for about 20 minutes.Zjeezy wrote:Fletcher Funk. The good news is we've kicked with Josh a few times this summer. Once with both him and Fletcher AT THE SAME TIME. Spooky. I think he's getting back into it, but he's got a lot of other stuff going on so its been a couple months since we've kicked.Zjeezy wrote:These next two are more for Chicago guys.

Last time I kicked with Shawn was probably two years ago, we went out to the Arlington Heights YMCA, kicked for a couple hours, made plans to kick downtown sometime, then never heard from him again.

hhhwhat?Frank_Sinatra wrote:Oddly enough, I ran into Shawn Boyle downtown today. He's playing a lot of hockey, but said he was off hockey for a couple weeks and might be able to make it out to a jam.
Also I saw Josh Elmer today, and Chris! who used to be the south suburban contingent.
I kicked with Ricky at US Open.
Juan is back in Minnesota I think he told me a few months ago when we became facebook friends. He was in Texas for a while I think.
Where's Sunil? He's an MD I think Red told me. Probably no time for footbag as a resident, but I have a feeling he wouldn't play net like Eric Wulff and Tuan Vu.
Mike H is in Berkeley now. But going to hawaii for the winter. He seriously has one of the coolest lifestyles. Work from anywhere, move somewhere warm and awesome when it's winter. 2 cute dogs.
Brian is in DC, where he works for the Census Bureau. When I was out there I was able to get him to come out and play about once a week.

That's a shame. He was super good and had a clean style that I admired a lot. He was a shooting star.Asmus wrote:Fucked up his knee(s?). Doesnt play anymore.Sergey Kozlov- 2nd at worlds and some other impressive videos and nothing else...
Interesting thread.
Go out and shred already.
