Weird session today.

Sebastien, James and I, all together at UQAM. I was feeling pretty good this morning. Once we get there, we all played pretty badly. The atmosphere was weird. We were just fighthing the bag. Sebastien hasn't played in something like a month? Everytime i play with him, i'm amazed by how good he is. I kinda forget how good he is... but he trhow it back in my face when i see him haha. Anyway, we were all a bit frustrated toward our game, so the atmosphere wasn't the best it could have been. Doesn't matter, bad session happen once in a while, there is nothing we can do about that!

I honnestly can't remember what we hit. I hit nuclear far mirage, an ok one. I was going for blender, coudln't hit it. So i picked up the bag, did toe blender. Then right after that pdx blender. I feel beter at those then at regular blender. Funny!

Sorry for that boring post. I kinda post at every session, because i make me realize how much i play these day. When i look at my footblog and see that i played like 12 days in the last 14 days, i'm like : O.o holy shit wtf haha.

Hope to have something better to post tomorrow ;).

Had a session with Sam and Ianek.

Always a pleasuer to see Samuel (Sam). the guy with who i started to play. Here is a funny story about Sam. Something like 5 or 6 years ago, is was in a relationship with his sister. I was 17 or 18 years old. We stayed together for one year. But she was living far away from my place. I was using public transport and i needed soething like 2 hours of bus to get to her place. So sometimes, i was going there, and while she was working for few hours, i was simply hanging in his house. And i ended up spending tons of time with Sam. He was probably 15 back in the days. So yah, we played tons of video games together : counter-strike, Tony hawks and stuff like that. We talked together a lot. Then here sister and I broke up together, and i basically stop to talk to Sam. We kept talking like once or twice a year on MSN, only taking news. Then, like 3 years later, i was talking to sam and i told him : yah man i started to play footbag. I can do few stalls now. I just bought my first pair of laver few days ago. I haven't met any of the montreal player yet. And Sam answered : yah, i started that too. I can do toe stall, clipper stall, butterfly (down)... I was like : no way man! Then i found on internet that the montreal player were having weekly session at the tamtams. So i went there. I just saw Sebastien Duchesne and Ianek Regimblad having an hardcore two man session. I was a beginner, i was like : yah, i can hit most of the tricks they do. But i didn't talk to them that day, i was too shy. I just kept playing alone at my place. And i told to Sam : Man... there are some good players at the tamtams, you should go there one day! The next weekend, he get at the tamtam jam. And he played with them. So when he came back, he told me : man, in played with them. That was awsome! We should go there together next week end! So yah, one week end later, i went there. I saw Kolo and Mathieu Gauthier busking together. kolo obviously saw my lavers. He came to me and throw me the bag. That was the beginning. Then we moved to the tamtams. Played with Ianek, Julien, Koa, Mathieu, Kolo, Sam (yah that was the first time we played together). Had an awsome time. I came back home more motivated then ever. Ianek gave me few tips and few drills. So i started to drill.

Ianek is an amazing person/player. He is the one who showed me basically everything about footbag. In the first month i was playing footbag, Ianek made a list of all the basic tricks. And we met up 2 or 3 times a week to have sessions together. He took Sam and I appart, and show us every basic move. I was sucking hard at that time. I remember Sam hitting basically every move within few tryes. On my side i had to came back home, try them for a week, and then hit it next session haha. The objective of Ianek was to show us every move, so we can decide what we want to drill and hit. So yah, i owe him a lot.

It was probably the time were footbag was the most amazing for me. There was still plenty of active footbag players in montreal : Kolo, Mathieu Guathier, Ianek, Sebastien, Me, Sam, François and more... We had few group session every week. It was awsome to show up at the place-des-arts 2 times a week and play with them. Also big tamtams session were the thing i was waiting for for the whole week. Then, Sam pretty much stopped to play, Ianek suffered so many injury, Kolo and Mathieu moved out of the town, Sebastien started to be much more dedicated about net. So yah, within 1 year, i became pretty much alone. It's a weird feeling. I still really enjoy footbag. I like the game. I like to drill, to feel i improve, to hit new tricks, to show up at tourneys. But on an other hand, i miss that friendly community that we used to have (and i guess it was probably even bigger few years before i srated to play). I think the departure of Matheiu Gauthier was a hard shot for the scene. He was the one shredding every day at the place des arts, he was the one reserving the shred spot for the winter and go there even if no onelse was there. Whenever we wanted to play, we simply had to show up at the shred spot, and we had someone to play with. Now i play mostly alone, except few session with James or François once in a while. Had a session with Ianek this week, we are suppose to have one session every week, but our schedule is pretty hard to fit together. On an other hand, i go to much more tourneys then i used to. I'll probably do between 6 to 8 jam this year, wich i a lot considering Montreal is pretty far from everywhere. Except for the kingston jam and Montreal spring jam, the clost jam is 6 hours away :).

Finally, i think Sebastien is the player that had the biggest influence on my game. Sebastien he pretty quiet when he playes. He is not the kind of guy to trhow advice everywhere. He is not the kind of guy to comment a lot my game or something like that. but i just feel i play a bit like him. He is super consistent, but don't throw 150 000 different tricks in every string. Even if he can hit much more things then i expect... I will always remember that reverse nuclear that he did out of no where. So yah, Ianek show me everything, but he is more into variety. I feel i'm more into consistency :). I also feel that my trick selection is getting closer and closer to the Sebastien one. Anyway!

So yah, that's a long post. No super coherent, but tons of things i am thinking about these day. tons of thing about the past, few about the future. Footbag is fun.

Finally, yah, we had a session Ianek, me and I. I was feeling the same i used to 2 years ago. We talked much more then we plyaed. In fact i had to ask them the bag while we were talking to make sure i keep warm haha. Ianek is still really good even if he hasn't played much in the last year. I don't think he lost much of his game. Sam is Sam. So yah, it was cool to have a session with them and talk a lot about different things. I always said that if we would have lived close to each other, we could have played and hand out together all the time haha :)

That's it! Not a super coherent post, but i had good time writhing that one! See you at NYJ for sure guys.

So we did the demo in front of more than 100 physical education teacher. Was cool to play with Mathieu Gauthier a bit, since we haven't played together for months! Seb was there too! Ppl enjoyed the hsow. I mean, alcool glass were more attractive, but some people enjoyed it and asked me to do some demonstration in their school. They offered to pay the 3 hours drive to get me in their town, plus a salary. Cool.

Now let's talk about my knee. So yah, i haven't played in almost 2 week now (except few mintues last weekend to test my knee.). And yah, my knee is still messed up :(. The first few minutes were fine. The end wasn't fine at all... I will need at leas tone more week off, maybe 2... In fact i don't see any progress since 2 weeks; my knee is a the exact same point. That sucks.

Cya.

Played today!

My knee is feeling much better! I even tired some whirl/double down on my injuroied side (wich are some move that used to hurt). They were fine. Still, i was careful. I did a small session, like 45 minutes? I tried to do not push miyself too hard. It was fun anyway :). My hips still hurt a bit on some move (far whirl/far mixer).

I have a new GF, i have lots of exam, i get out of a small injury. It's not the best situation for the motivation. I'll see what i will do. Simply enjoy life :).

See you at NYJ guys.

Played an other hour today. Knee is awsome. Hips is hu.... not that good haha. Whatever! Nothing crazy about the session, it was only fun to do some physical exercices.

I don'T really know where is my footbag motivation right now. I have a new gf, she does wall climbing. I used to do LOTS of wall climbing, and i definitly miss that! Don't know if i prefer to do wall climbing or footbag? I'm such a perfectionnist, i can'T do both haha. I will see :). Wall climbing is a MUCH MORE social sport then footbag. But footbag is really awsome. There is nothing that push myself as hard as footbag does.

We will see.

dude, you freaking inspired me at funtastiks to push to a new level. i probably should have told you that then. keep your motivation, there's room to be good at multiple things in life, and for you, footbag must be one of them.

Thx for the kind words Bob. They means a lot to me.

So yah, i'll keep training at least until NYJ, but i will have to see a doc for my hips i guess haha.

Had a small session today. Obvisouly, with that injury i don'T push on whirl and double dexes as a planned to do before. So i'm working on ducking moves and spinning moves, wich are softer on the body.
I mostly drill ducking down, ducking far mirage and ducking osis. Also, for the first time, i start to be able to delay the set on flip spinning clipper, wich help me a lot to spin ''faster''. I understand myself lol!

Thx Nick! I definitly hope to see your really soon, with your new footbag shoes :).

This summer a TV show came to film a bit of footbag, both ent an freestyle. The show is mostly about net, but there are few seconds of freestyle. The whole emission is pretty good, seriously i am impressed but the job. It's in french :). We can see players like François Pelletier, Gilles Demers, MArtin Côté, Sébastien Perron for the net. For freestyle it's me and Sébastien Duchesne.

http://www.ztele.com/webtele/sebastien- ... let-13451/

The freestyle is around 11 minutes. It last only few seconds :).

I have been playing about 2 hours pery day in the past 2 days.
My knee has completly recover. My hips is about at the same point it was BEFORE my injury. I have always been a bit less flexible on the left side, but at least it doesn't hurt. YAAAAAH.

Today :
Blurry whirl - ripwalk - ripwalk - blurry whirl starting from BS.
Blurry whirl - spinning whirl - PS whirl2nd try.

Yah, my whirl are getting better. My flip still need some work, but it works haha!

I enjoy playing footbag these day. It's much more fun to play footbag when it doesn'T hurt.... i don't lie :).

Thx a lot ken. I really appreciate when people comment in my blog :). I will DEFINITLY shred with you at NYJ! We haven't played much together in the previous events (Worlds/Funtastik/NYJ2008).

Had a session yesterday. I was a bit tired, due to all my little night studying for all my finals.
Sadly, i will not be able to prepare a routine for NYJ, not enough time. I hate when people do unplanned routine in an event. I prefer to do not compete in routine instead of just doing it poorly.

So yah, not so many highlights yesterday. I played with a friend of mine who started to play recently. It's awsome. He is not so serioous about footbag. He definitly doesn't plan to push really hard. Still, he uses that sport as a physical exercice. So he just do some cllipe/toe stall/ few basics move. Serisouly, the sport would be MUCH more heealty if we would have some ''not serious'' shredder. I mean, in basketball, you don't have only ''professionall'' basketball. You also have all those kids playing street basketball. Same for hockey, of skying.... We need to have people playing at a low level, jsut for the fun of it.

So yesterday i hit triforce. I was trying that drill 2 years ago, when i started to play. I haven't tried it since at least a year. Yesterday i did it within 3 tries. Always awsome to feel you are improving!

Another quick session today. I had 30 minutes so i did a super intense session. Worked mostly on whirls.

Pdx whirls x 10.

I think i understood something about my flip whirl. Sweet!

Lots of things have been going on since the last post. Done with finals, with all my hoemworks, been to NYJ. Nyj was awesome!

-=January 4th 2011=-
Had one of the most epic session of my footbag carrer. I unlock tons of concepts that has been hard for me in the past years. I finally understand a better timing for spinning clipper. Still have to work on it on flip side, but strong side is much more sexy.
For whirl (yah i know... i still talk about whirls :( ), i figured out that the problem with my flip whirl was that i wasn't raising my leg before the bag get there... After that i hit blurry whirl x 3 first try, and my flip blurry whirl feelt awsome!
I hit open ducking switch, pick up, mirage, illusion, down all BS. Was trinyg for open ducking whirl, but it's still a bit hard to do a whirl dex on flip side when the bag goes super high.

Footbag is a mental game.
