kicked with nick and zach last night, it was lots of fun. we have a nice thing going, good contrasts in styles makes everyone learn a lot and we laugh the entire time. I felt like I was playing pretty poorly, but the guys said that they thought I looked strong, so perhaps my standards are too high (or theirs are too low!).

We've all been drilling and were sort of all brain frozen to some extent. So we agreed that 2 weeks of just playing instead of drilling is just what the doctor ordered. To spice it up a little... every run for the next two weeks must begin with a weakside trick. But otherwise, just let the freestyle out.

WOOOW. I'm utterly impressed with how much work has been put into that, and the outcome is great!

It's been too long. Will you be around next weekend, after thanksgiving, to kick

Hey Drew, Thanks for the barn props, it's really coming along now. We just were forced to buy a new car since the wife's vehicle was basically dead, so woodworking purchases are on pause momentarily, but I still have plenty to work on in the meantime.

I won't be around over thankgsiving weekend, but I will be around on Monday the 29th if you're still around then.

---
kicked with Nick and Brian the other night. Fun session, I played well. Solo tonight, wednesday night with the other drew and nick

well, I was so pumped to kick with the guys the other night, but extensive work stress combined with intense physical exhaustion combined to make me totally unable to play. I literally dropped on my opening clipper stall 3 turns in a row. I couldn't hit anything at all. I quickly figured this out and sat out and watched and coached the rest of the time. I was so extremely depressed about it to be honest, but I'm happy that I made the most of it and salvaged what fun I could. Tiredness and stress happens.

Anyways, Drew M. reluctantly gave me some practices to do. I really had to twist his arm, but I really needed a goal coming out of such a shitty session.

So, today on vacation in Pittsburgh, I did his first practice which was to hit 50 ripwalks on both sides. Not in the same run or anything. I changed it to 25 ripwalk > ripwalks starting on both sides. It hits the same number of repetitions but adds a link. By the time I accomplished the feat, I'd hit over 100 ripwalks on both sides, so that was good. Also did my pushups/situps/dips.

edit: the white bag is from Nick.. really nice already, totally shreddable without any break in period. green back is from zach, and is earlier than his current sweet bags. I encourage you to trade with either of these guys, and zach is selling bags that are totally worth the price already.

Sick Sack right next to a Treebag ;) Thanks for the recommendations Bob! Last session was awesome, the shred was fun, but our hack circle at the end made the night for me. Awesome times. Hope you had a happy Thankyouforgivingusfootbag Day. Props on the completion of training from Drew. Can't wait to kick again. Later days dude.

shredded with brian today. I was nice and well rested and we played before I went and built a barn or anything else overly tiring. So, I played like me again instead of the imposter that was in my barn the other night. Thank fuc*ing goodness. I realized that I think in terms of 6 trick combos at this point, which is a nice upgrade from two or three tricks awhile ago. Hit some really good strings today, and even was able to impress the unimpressable brian.

tomorrow night, 50 swirls on both sides per order of drew martin, reluctant drill sergeant.

brian added a drill day for me too. 100 atomic sets on both sides. just atomic to toe. will get to that when completed with drew's 4 practices.

i hear nyfa guys want to come chill in the shred barn and then party out after. don't be shy fellas, let me know.

I love the note on the bottom, "I hate Drew". Don't forget that you asked for this. I know all this work will pay off and you will see progress from this. I'll talk to nyfa and see what they want to do.

ha ha, I totally asked for it, and think that these practices will help me progress. And I'm glad you noticed my note. :)

Last night, 50 swirls both sides. Ugh. That was tough for me. I also did my three sets of pushups/situps/dips. I had to ice my knees afterwards which was unusual for me. But I think as long as I take it easy on swirls for a few days I'll be good to go. Also had to ice my neck this morning as the recurring injury wants to return. I think I caught it in time with advil and ice.

Upcoming sessions/practices:
- Tonight, shred with Zach and Nick.
- This saturday, 50 blurs both sides. That'll be REALLY hard for me.
- This sunday, shred with brian
- Next Monday, 40 minutes of weakside pdx whirl followed by 20 minutes of strongside pdx whirl.
- Next wednesday, shred with Zach and Nick
- Next saturday 100 atomic toe stalls on both sides (per Brian's request).

session with zach and nick last night. I was tired and sore from swirl practice on the previous day, and from tough session with Brian the day before that, but showed flashes of decent game. It's hard for me to tell looking at my own game, but I'd say that I'm playing clean and controlled with good link density. I'd also say that the work to add elements to my game is worthwhile and showing some promise.

zach is improving so fast it's scary. The stuff we have to fix with his game is mostly style stuff that will come naturally anyways. Like not stomping feet down, but instead thoughtfully and quickly *placing* them down. Moving around the bag instead of the bag around you. But otherwise, he's hitting very hard tricks (like atomic spinning... stepping ducking... quantum) and his link builds are coming very nicely (as an example, he's never tried rubberman drill, but I bet he'll hit it this week). He could be "one of those guys".

Nick is also, in an entirely different way, ramping up very nicely. He hit pixie inside calf rolling ducking clipper so clean yesterday. And then hit stepping far dyno a few runs later. Really cool mix of hacky style, traditional shred tricks, totally unusual tricks. And when his whirls, drifters, spins, stepping, and pixie all start to come together with his unique tricks, it's going to be Jon Schneider-esque, but with his own take on all of it. I think he's more natural at a lot of the "normal" tricks than many of the "unusual" trick kickers are. Going to be fun to watch.

While I'm handing out props, Drew Martin's game is getting better and better. It sort of snuck up on me this year how good he's gotten. Most of his game is stuff I'm totally not good at, so I'm actually not good at describing it. But all variations of eggbeaters, blurry whirls, stepping stuff.. just lots of trick vocabulary, and his links are denser all the time.

Anyways, taking a couple days off to heal, then back to drill hell.

(side note, we filmed a one-shot challenge last night.. Nick hit 0 tricks, Zach hit 0 tricks, old guy Bob managed to hit a decent run.. young punks, I doubt they'll post it. ha ha)

oh my god I'm so sore. all over. everywhere. ugh.

friday, chilled after work.

saturday, winterized the house/porch/yard which entailed lifting, carrying, raking, lifting, carrying, up and down steps etc.

sunday, long session with brian in the shred barn. then, later on (with help from wife and neighbor) primer and paint the entire workshop.

It doesn't sound like that much compared to my usual crazy labor levels, but I tell ya, it kicked my ass bad.

Speaking of session with Brian, I shredded hard. The pattern in recent months has been: if I have energy I'm a pretty darn ok shredder, if I don't have energy, I totally suck. Anyways, I had energy yesterday and was ripping. Difficult to recall specifics, but I again got that feeling of "thinking in terms of 6 move combos". And, I impressed Brian multiple times which is nearly impossible. I'd say my good runs were in the 15 trick guiltless range with a mix like: 5-6 unique to open > 1-2 bops for air > 2-3 unique > 1-2 bops > drop on something harder. If the second grouping of uniques could more consistently be up in the 5-6 trick range, that'd be good.

Brian is also playing the best I've ever seen him play, which is solid guiltless where he generally does 2-3 move combos separated by 3-5 bops. But he's getting better at decreasing the bops so some runs are denser than that. But even with bops, he routinely goes for 12+ tricks which ain't bad at all.

Tonight, 50 blurs both sides, per Drew. Ugh, dreading it.

Hey Bob! Thanks for the props! That was really cool to read, and I've really been working on all of the parts my game is missing lately. Pdx drifters are ALMOST butter for me. Glad to hear your session with Brian was good. Sorry I couldn't join you guys. See ya Wednesday with Zach though! Wait til you get an eyeful of the new guys, Stefan & Andrew. Stefan bought his first Lavers tonight and ABUSED THEM. I'm talking anywhere from sole stall> toe stall, madd clippers both sides, sticking mirages like it's his job. Both guys were transitioning so well tonight. They're both totally and utterly HOOKED on footbag. 'Tis a beautiful thing. I gotta get some sleep now, cya Wed!

No problem nick, you're working hard and deserve the props. Make sure Zach sees my write up of him too.

Looking forward to session tomorrow night. My blurs practice last night was cancelled because I forgot that I had my company holiday party so I didn't get home until real late. It's for the best though because I'm STILL sore from overdoing it this weekend. Damn, I worked hard.

I guess I'll do blurs on friday night

btw, that new ozzy song off the scream album.. track 4... i want to make a footbag video to that song

Right on, well I appreciate it, and Zach said he already saw it, I think he just wants to thank you in person, which I do as well. You feel better to kick by tomorrow, I'm resting for it today.

Had our regular wednesday night session with zach and nick last night in the shred barn. Since I didn't get to play on Monday as I normally do, I was actually well-rested last night. Therefore, I played like me. The guys were so used to me sucking ass that I got props on just about every other run all night it seems. The guys both played really well too. Zach is going to hit rubberman drill this week I think. Nick is looking like a freestyler with unique style rather than a hacker with neat tricks now. It's a big step in the process. After NYJ (which they're going to, I'm not) I think they'll be at a whole new level.

Anyways, gotta do my blurs practice... I think I'll do that tonight. It's going to be horrible.

wasn't that bad afterall, got it done, and my three sets of situps/dips/pushups in under an hour. then drank yard's mix case with wifey. kicking with brian in an hour.

edit, it's just silly that I can't correctly spell the word "weak".

great session with brian yesterday, played great despite being fairly spent from blurs practice the night before. Brian video taped and is going to try to put a youtube vid together, something short like the best 5 runs from each of us yesterday. my new favorite combo is paradon > whirl > barrage. again i was able to impress brian which was good. after like a half dozen runs in a row where brian gave me props after each one, i remarked that I felt like I could just play whatever I wanted (within my repetoire). that was a cool feeling.

today off to heal - my back and entire body is sore (because I of course played with kids, built in the barn, etc. etc. etc. on top of shredding). tomorrow, pdx whirls practice per coach drew. here's how it will go.. one hour time limit, weak attempts until I hit one > strong attempts until I hit one > repeat.. track how many I can hit both sides during the hour. plus pushups/situps/dips.
