Tron was really good!...
I truly believe 'we' as a general population have been desensitized to excellence.
when i walked away from Avitar for the first time i was ecstatic, it blew my mind and then after watching it for second time i wasn't as impressed. Tron felt like watching Avitar for the second time.
Awesome music, awesome story-line and beautiful effects.
the 3d effect i feel works best with movies that are mainly CG like tron avitar and Titanic, as good as it was in tron, I strongly feel that it was not worth the moneys. At the beginning of the movie it even says ''for parts of this motion picture parts will not be presented in 3D and are meant to be so''. it was cool and all but, i don't know what else i want,.... 3D that looks So F***N GOOD it feels like i'm therrre maannn!

do you maybe feel sometimes that the whole concept of 3d movies is just trying to bridge the gap between fantasy and reality??
I totally agree with what you said about movies these days desensitizing us.. I think the more graphic/"real" movies become, less emphasis is placed on plot/storyline,etc (AVATAR a perfect example: awesome graphics, terrible plot). my main concern, though, is movies/technology in general becoming SO advanced that we end up secluding ourselves from actual reality to escape to an alternate reality that has crazy animals or nonstop arcade game, thus diminishing actual human interaction to something that can be easily ignored.
technology in general does and has done that, I just see it going to more extreme measures

I love Tron lol. I have the original on dvd and the bluray/dvd combo pack for Tron: Legacy. I have a Tron t-shirt along with a poster of the same design above my bed. The background of my laptop is even Quorra from Legacy. I'm a fan lol.
Granted, the movies could totally have deeper plots and such and blah, blah, blah, but I love them because of the way they make me feel while I'm watching them. I absolutely love this particular type of scifi, and the graphics just make the experience whole. I think any movie presented in 3D should be taken with a grain of salt. If you're someone who sees a movie solely for the plot, then you won't enjoy many movies released these days. To enjoy a movie these days, you need to go into it looking to be entertained, not to come out a smarter or more thought provoked person. If graphics don't make the experience enjoyable for you, go read a book instead.
On the topic of 3D trying to bridge the gap between reality and fantasy, that's exactly what it's there to do. Personally, I only see movies in 3D for the sake of having a freakishly crisp picture in theaters. Everything popping out at me doesn't really affect me the way that picture itself does.
