yeah, we'll head over there about this time next year, probably stay for around 2 years, then most likely back to Australia. Should be awesome.

Played a little bit on Saturday. There was a free festival on in the park, so we went along and watched my friends band Jerkstore. After they played we kicked nearby, mainly just playing a bit of hack, but with a few tricks thrown in.

There was a band playing, Mornings. They were kinda like Kyuss I guess, though with less lyrics, but one of their songs was building up to a big ending, and I'd just done a big run, it ended at about the same time as the song. The people watching the band gave a polite applause and some guys who had been watching me gave a big cheer.

I recently learnt hopover swirl which I've been having a bit of fun playing around with. I don't really know what got me inspired to even start trying it, it was something I completely didn't get when watching Tricks of The Trade.

So we had a good kick around, a few people came over to see what it was all about, and I told them we were having a competition the next weekend, so hopefully they will come along.

When I was a beginner I met a shredder from NY who said hopover swirl is a really easy trick to learn. I hate how some ppl think swirl is the easiest concept

That bloke lied to you, it's a hard trick. Especially for a beginner.

Good day out yesterday. After a week of rain, cold, etc, the sun was high in the sky.

We were having our ACT Footbag Championships. It was more of a jam really, it was never going to be a bit turnout, we don't have a big scene to turnout in Australia anyway, and there was only one interstate guest.

So anyway, Francisca and I drove, we picked up Dan Smiley, my friend Paige and Jonathan, then we arrived. There was already a bit of a hack circle going so we played that for a bit, which was a nice way to kick things off.

After a while we started warming up for the routines. So Rhys and Jonathan did some kind of interpretive dance/doubles routine. We didn't count that because they didn't actually do any tricks, although Jonathan did manage to drop it.

We had routines from Caroline, Copey and Dyalan, then I did my routine. It was just a one minute routine, so I just made up the routine in the morning, and hadn't actually gone through it at all. I have done a routine to the song before...at the 2006 Nationals.

I went through it dropless up to the last trick, which was a flying clipper. It was meant to come back for a handcatch, but it went over to the side, I went to catch it on a clipper, but I dropped that.

After that we had some shred battles. It came down to me and Copey in the finals and I lost.

We had a sick 3... I won this one on my last combo with dimwalk>ripwalk>mobius. I only hit one other combo, which wasn't that good.

I think Dyalan hit dimwalk>butterfly>spinning osis and Copey smear>butterfly>pdx mirage. Caroline did mirage>mirage>symp mirage. In his first time Jonathan hit atw>toe stall>inside stall. I never hit anything the first time I did a sick 3.

It was getting super hot so we reconvened to another location. First stop was the Lighthouse bar for a beer break, that went down really well, then we had a couple of games of four square. 2008 National Champ Copey was unstoppable, he won both games.

After a car shuffle we went to Copey's place for beer and a BBQ. With a view over the lake, we just hung out there talking shit, it was a good night. We left around 9pm, Caroline gave us a lift home, it was good to not have to mean a hangover in the morning.

I have been hard at work this week...

I have been so hard at work I've been learning how to juggle. Two weeks ago I had no idea how to juggle. Today I got quite a few contacts of 4 bag juggling, I also did a spin whilst juggling, I was pretty impressed with that one.

Something that has taken me way too long to learn, which I also hit for the first time today, was a couple of contacts of 2 bag juggling. I can actually now hit quite a lot of tricks with two bags, but the juggle has eluded me for a long time.

I want to submit something for the shred global competition, of course I will submit something but I'm less than happy with my current options. I can't hit any 5s consistently enough on both sides to be my trick, so my plan is something like sidewalk>spinning ducking osis>sidewalk or ducking osis>blurrierest>ducking osis. I will get something in.

Haven't had too many good sessions this week, have just played for short amounts of time. I have the day off tomorrow so I will be due for a good session.

Hi footblog, it's been a little while, I was nearly down to the next page. What have I been up to...

I went to Perth for about a week, that was a pretty good trip, had a bit of a debacle with the hostel, but it was still a free place to stay so it can't be that much of a big deal. I played a bit in Perth, but always just by myself. I took a new pair of lavers over, they felt really stiff actually. I'm wearing my old ones today, they have a crack in the sole, but they feel a lot more comfortable. They won't last too much longer though.

I went in that Shred Global competition, I was so impressed with the amount of people, especially from the top echelon of the sport that went in it. I was really struggling for a combo, I ended up hitting schmoe>phoenix>schmoe. I loved Phil's combo (scorpion's tail>stepping ducking swirl>scorpion's tail). Awesome work to Dale for putting it all together.

So the wedding is in just over a month, it's all coming up fast. We got a lot done whilst in Sydney before and after going to Perth, very pleased with that. It's all coming together and will be a great day.

When I was in Sydney I also got in a (very brief) kick with Dyalan and Mitch. I could only play for 15 mins, and I was wearing my nucleus shoes, which I really do not find to be good for playing in. Still hit some reasonable runs in that time though.

Did a couple of tours this morning, they were only small tours though, but 20 more people probably know about footbag. The weather has been totally strange, it's now sunny at 7pm, but earlier the rain was crashing down.

it's a fun little challenge, I was hoping for something a bit more though, although my other ideas were pretty similar in difficulty though.

Learning Spanish in a school, not really making great footbag improvements, but still managing to have fun despite that. All in all life is pretty good lately!

I think I will start taking Spanish classes early next year...will you go back to South America? You guys should come in November and come to our second wedding in Chile.

Oh, like, YOUR wedding?? I went back a few pages and saw you wrote something about A wedding, didn't realize it's yours!! Freaking mazal tov man!

I'm actually planning on going back to Uruguay in 2012, can't go there every year. But if I'm in SA and you guys are there at the same time, I'm DEFINITELY coming. Can't miss such an opportunity! And if you guys wanna see Uruguay you should come over as well, it's a fun little country.

Played a short while today in my lunch break. Just 15 mins or so, but I felt like I finally hit some form which has been absent in the past few weeks.

I was hitting some nice long runs, and finished off with a mobius. Not bad for a quick kick.

So Christmas time tomorrow. People don't stay in Canberra for Christmas, so it's very, very quiet here at work. I'm going down to Bega this afternoon, unfortunately Francisca has to work on Sunday, so we'll be back up again tomorrow night. A very quick trip, but should be worthwhile anyway.

This year I have played Footbag in quite a few countries, not a bad effort I think:

Australia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, England, Austria, Slovakia, Singapore (airport), USA.

Next year I will be adding a few more to that list

Had a strong session on Christmas Day...stepping diving osis, I think that's a new trick, hit it with ease. Don't think I mentioned it before, I hit scorpion's tail, that's the second time I've ever hit that, the other time was like 2 years ago, so I was pretty pleased with myself.

Feel like I'm coming into some good form, Narooma is a few weeks away, so that should be a good thing.

Did some tours today, it was busier than I expected. Probably showed about 100 people Footbag.

Caroline is back in town, going to kick tomorrow with her and Jonathan.

Filmed something yesterday for the next round of Shred Global competitions. I'm pretty disappointed with my combo, but it's something. I really couldn't get any sets out of the unusual surfaces, to go into another unusual surface...sure I can do things like outside set blender, but I was unable to make that into a dragon or something.

So my combo was pretty easy I guess, you can see it in the next video, most likely in last position.

There are two more days left in this year, wow. Without a doubt it has been the best year of my life.

That's really great to hear. Congrats again on getting married. I guess I'm also just glad to hear 2010 was so good for you, even considering your routines experience at Worlds.

I hope people respond to your thread in GF about "your year in footbag."

Was nice to see you again this year. The thing is, even with a good routine, I wouldn't have made it through my pool, and the government gave me money to go to Worlds.

With all the other good stuff that happened to me within the year, a bad routine was just a blip, especially as I already had a dropless routine earlier in the year.

In what was probably my last Fotobag session for the year, I hit a new trick. Whirlygig. Funnily enough, I was walking into town, halfway along I realised I wasn't wearing my lavers. Seemed not to matter, I was playing the best I have in ages.

Was working tours today, pretty good, though hot day.

Showed about 100 people footbag. This year I'm going to keep a tally of how many people I show footbag through doing tours at the AIS. Of course, this is something I should have started doing four years ago, but better late than never.

I was working on invortex in between one of the tours. The bag landed on my foot, but I don't think I did it correctly. I think you have to wait until spinning before starting the drifter section, I was doing the drifter midway into the spin, which I have a feeling is wrong. Anyhow, it felt cool. I'll try and get it on film the next time I play.

2010 was definitely a ripper year. I put a post in my own topic- "your year in footbag" (can be found in General Footbag).

I decided I might as well post it in here, because it's a good summary of my year. It's interesting, I did a lot of things that made my year awesome, but most of them had something to do with Footbag.

For me it was a great year all round. In regards to Footbag:

In January I got on the back page of the Narooma News. It's just a small town paper, but it felt good to be main deal in the sports section. We had our Narooma jam which was fun as per usual.

In February I went on a surf trip to Papua New Guinea. I played Footbag in front of the locals on one of the islands and they loved it. I'm not sure if anyone has ever played freestyle footbag in PNG before.

In March, Silvan L. from Switzerland came to Australia, we did a little demo at this small fundraiser for the Chilean earthquake.

In April we had our national championships. I did a dropless routine to win routines, and was very pleased with myself. I also hit my first 5>5>5 (darkwalk>spinning ducking osis>tomahawk). I got a couple of articles on an online magazine, and one in another small town paper, the Bega District News. The headline was "Boyle proves too tricky". I stuck that one on my fridge.

In May I went on a quick trip to Europe. I played with Matt Bailey in Trafalgar Square, which was cool. Actually, it was about 3 degrees, it was very cold. In Vienna I stayed with Alex Trenner and kicked with him, and got to catch up with some awesome friends I met last year. I ended up in Zurich which was not planned, and got to meet with Flavio as well.

I applied to get a grant from the government to go to worlds earlier in the year, and I hadn't heard from them for a long time, so I guessed it wasn't going ahead. Then I got a letter in the mail saying, Dear Daniel, would you like some money...

In June I did a demonstration to 4000 people. Unfortunately the music didn't work, so I did a routine in silence. This was at the opening of the Kanga Cup, a big junior soccer tournament.

I went to Worlds, my performances were completely disappointing, but overall, I'm still glad I went. Unfortunately I won't be going this year.

The rest of the year was pretty quiet footbag wise. I did get engaged though, which is pretty big news. We had a small jam, the ACT Championships. We had a 1min routines competition, my routine, which I made up on the spot was almost dropless, except for the last trick.

Jonathan, a good friend of mine also got a pair of lavers and started kicking more, which was a definite positive.

Throughout the year I was also showing people Footbag through my job as a tour guide at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Not sure if I'll be able to match my efforts from last year, but it will be a very exciting year anyway.

Back to this year, I did one tour today, 35 people. That brings the total to 135 people. Now I've got a few hours before working at the hostel, so I'm going to go for a run, as it's quite cool today, and the last few days have been very, very hot.
