PA Jam! April 15-17, 2011 (AND IT WAS A BLAST!)

Post by F[uns]tylin' Eclectic »

Hey Everyone! Edit: Zach bailed on me and quit footbag, leaving me in charge completely. So I am throwing a Footbag Jam in PA, April 15-17 (Only including Friday because if anyone wants/needs to show up early or something they can chill and kick with some of us that night, but Saturday is the BIG event day, taking place from 12-3, but we can go early and stay late, and Sunday is just going to be a fun and shred day to show footbag to visitors of the park).

The location will be at Gring's Mill (a popular recreational park within walking distance of my apartment). We were able to be a part of a festival called "Eggstravaganza", which will consist of kids and their parents making Easter eggs and doing other Easter activities. We have a great asphalt spot on a volleyball court that they reserved for us, which is right in public view. The spot is CHOICE. Right next to the shred spot, we will also have some net footbag set up.

For more information on this Easter event, check out: EGGstravaganza

Edit: REASONS FOR THIS JAM:

 There has been an outstanding hatching of new dedicated players who have already gotten pretty good that most of you have never heard of. I thought it would be great for them to experience their first footbag jam in or around their hometown.
 There's a cheap hotel right up the road from my apartment, in case you don't wan't/can't get floor space at my apartment (Which there is a lot of).
 I'm going to move to PSU Main Campus next year, and thought this would be a cool way to end the school year with a BANG and a happy farewell to this campus that's treated me so well for 3 years.
 Demonstrate footbag to A LOT of kids and others (The park and recs lady said 700+!)

Edit:

Definitely Attended!

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:
 Just to make it clear, Friday night and the Saturday after party will be BYOB, but there will be one or two younger kids at this event staying at my place (I think the youngest is 14), so I prefer it not to get too crazy with alcohol. Not saying you can't have fun, just pretty please be cool about it. IF YOU DO PLAN ON BRINGING DRINKS, PLEASE BRING BEVERAGES INTO MY APARTMENT IN A BROWN BAG OR HIDDEN SOMEHOW, THANKS IN ADVANCE
 I also plan on setting my hookah up in the living room and a 4-square court in my dining room.
 Not mandatory, but it would be nice if a few people could bring snacks/drinks for everyone, since I'm supplying the crash space. I'm going to try to get a few cases of donuts for us too.
 When you guys arrive, please bring as little as you can into my apartment (sleeping bag, a change of clothes, toiletries... footbags) just to maximize room for everyone. There will definitely be enough room for everyone, I've measured it out about a thousand times (almost serious :P I really didn't want to screw anything up and have there be not enough room for everyone, since this is only my first event and i'd like to run a good, fun first event that everyone will remember in a positive way). If you guys and gals could leave duffel bags and other larger whatnots in your cars or friends' cars until you need it, that would be ideal.
 If you are arriving Friday night, try not to be at my place before 6:30, because I have an internship preparation class from 4-6 every Friday, and I can't skip it. I will be back at my apartment by around 6. It's annoying, I know, I apologize for this time constraint :\[/i]

Zach knows what he's talking about, and I couldn't agree with him more. It's the perfect (or as close to perfect as it gets).

I'll be there.

Advice:
- Read the "how to run an event" post. It's near the top of this sub forum.

here's the link:

Seriously, read it. It should prove very helpful. I know you're smart guys, but take the time to truly digest the information.

Have fun, run a nice jam, don't get overly ambitious for starters.

(also, you've got a decent resource [Me] to talk to as well)

To everyone wanting to attend:

It's looking more and more promising with each passing day :D I just have to pick dates and talk to my campus, which I'm sure will agree (I brought something up to them my first year here and they said running events is a can-do). Plus, the school's name would get out there and every facility would like it's name to get further publicized. My friend works for the paper and said she'd love to do a write up for the school paper.

I'm fairly certain that the cafeteria wouldn't mind hooking us up with free water, as well, since they do it for the rugby teams and all other sporting events that are held here.

I have a perfect space in mind and I remember they've blocked it off to hold events during the Spring in previous years. The shred space would be right next to the net area, so we're probably going to have a net section, depending on if we get a decent amount of net players that are interested.

I'm feeling like this is going to be a hybrid event. Competitions will be held, but nothing too serious, and we will try to get shirts made. (Anyone that could help with this?)

Thanks to everyone who is considering taking the trip.

@ Bob: You're the man, dude. That is proving to be so helpful in hooking this tournament up. Thanks for helping Zach and I with this.
Zach, you, and I should collaborate soon and start brainstorming some more ideas.

Will keep updating this thread with more details.
