Guys, its now 2011. What do we see in the future for footbag? I was really hoping footbag would make a comeback from its now 6-year long decline in global internet popularity, but its not looking good according to Google trends. Seeing as how footbag itself IS an internet based phenomenon, this statistic is quite depressing. Could footbag really exist without the internet?

It appears we owe Estonia some credit for like the 6th year in a row of being the most footbag-active searchers worldwide. Are there any big names from there?

Olympics! We can do it!

If you look at just the past year of activity, Estonia isn't even in the top 10. Not sure what to attribute their past activity to, but it looks like it's over.

Lithuania, Finland, and Czech Republic all dominate now.

Google trends gives relative data, not real data. To see an increase in the footbag results growth in footbag searches would need to be greater than the overall growth in internet searches. For small and obscure things, it's entirely reasonable to think things are growing in real number of searches while still seeing a decline in the relative number. Of course it's also possible that the number of searches really is declining, but this doesn't give us the data to know.

The reason why Estonia is rated so highly is because the largest percentage of searches out of all searches in Estonia are for footbag. It's almost certain that bigger countries like the US have far more searches for footbag, but at a lower percentage of total searches.

Thats good to hear. I didn't realize trends reported against the global search volume. I'll stop being sad for footbag now.
