Lunch workout was pretty intense. Me and Vianna discussed it while eating afterwards and we both feel we push ourselves harder because of the motivation from having someone there. New pushup record of 33. Not a huge improvement but every little bit counts, right?

Tonight I had a pretty low key workout. I think without a set plan (like TMT) I spend more time thinking about what I'm gonna do next than doing anything. I did a little bit of kicking tonight. Not much as I was in sweats, not shorts. I did some flip clipper balance. I also balanced on my left foot for over a minute in a yoga pose. I did some good long yoga stretches too. Some dumbbell lifting. Tried out a few moves from a Men's Health mag I had laying around. about 42 minutes total. I'm trying to make sure my workouts without TMT are just as long as my ones with it.

Lunch workout hurt. In a mostly good way.

Did TMT Yoga tonight. Gotta keep Tuesdays quick. For the next month Tuesday is a rest day on my workout plan.

SO STOKED RIGHT NOW!!! I won the bid on some G-Units. I really hope they fit well. They are 9.5 and I've only ever bought size nine shoes, but my size 9 lavers don't fit anymore. So I took a gamble. In other news, I'll soon have a pair of slightly used White and Green lavers for sale or trade.

The Vasek Klouda Manual

Post by sen »

I bought the Vasek Manual last night. Been meaning to for a while, so while I had my card out for buying Units I headed to Freedom and made the download. Been reading it this morning. I'm supposed to write down what I would really love to do in Footbag and I figured writing them here would be a good place:

 I want to use footbag as a fitness routine
-I've mentioned it before in my blog, but to keep playing I need to enjoy it and to enjoy it I need to be getting better. So...
 To become guiltless
 To do 500 clippers consecutively (Yes, I stole right from the manual. I like the goal!)
 To hit ripwalk>ripwalk
 To hit a beast
 To keep playing 20, 30 years from now.

As, you can see none of my goals are competition oriented. I don't plan to travel and compete much. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go to more, but the funds usually aren't there, and so I don't want to set my self up for dismantlement in that regards. Also, many of my goals are a long ways off. I haven't hit a single 6 add move, and haven't even hit a 5 add move in 3 years, but I will hit a beast one day. OK, back to reading.

 Footbag for 40 minutes.

Alot of kicking and a lot working on clippers. Mostly flip, some back and forth, and trying some different stuff on my strong side. That is a really hard tempation to ignore.

Strong Clipper>Flapper>clipper>swirl (kinda felt like Vasek since I've seen him do that kinda combo lots and always really liked it)
Strong spinning clipper>ducking same clipper[weaving clipper]>spinning clipper
I really need to learn the name of all the ducking components.
a few flip spinning clippers
some flip consec clippers, a flip flapper stall.

Workout Streak: 29

Edit: I finally took some time to learn the names of the different ducking components. I'm gonna write them here in my own words to try and help me remember. I'll use clippers as an example.
Ducking clipper - from one clipper you set just over head and basically just "duck" under the bag so the bag passes from the side you set on, over and comes down on the opposite side. You end the opposite clipper than you started on.
Diving Clipper - Set from clipper, the bag passes to the side of your head opposite where you set and you duck under so it comes down on the same side as your original clipper and catch it back on that side.
Weaving Clipper - Set from clipper straight up, footbag passes over head starting on same side of body as clipper was performed, then passes over and comes down on other side and goes back to the same clipper as started on.
Zulu Clipper - Set from clipper footbag passes to opposite side of head where you duck so the footbag makes a full circle around head and comes down to opposite clipper from start.

I think it's great that you laid out your goals.

Going to tournaments can be great motivation to improve, and also to achieve your goals. Before you get to the tournament, you're motivated to level up, so you can play well when you get there. Once you're there, you get new ideas, and the adrenaline helps you play. And once it's done, you can ride that motivation and high to continue improving.

Just saying that going to tournaments will, if anything, help you achieve your goals.

Lunch workout was as intense as usual. A lot of cardio and Abs. I don't think I mentioned it before, but our lunch workouts are 29 minutes 5 seconds. I use an interval timer on my phone to time it and it includes warm up and cool down. We do 10 exercises 2 times each. It's fast and intense and we sweat a lot. So it's good.

Ken, I'll further qualify what I wrote about goals because I realise that what I said doesn't really get across what I meant. I guess I can't let competition be a driving force for me. This is for a few reasons. First, I am not an overly competitive person. What I do, I do for myself, my family and my friends. Secondly, I don't have the means to travel to tournaments and Jams. I live in frikken NORTHERN ALBERTA. I think Rory is the only one still in Edmonton so Shredmonton is unlikely, the hotsteppers from Saskatoon are off the scene. Those are two jams I have intended in the past and I loved them both. I learned a lot at them and would love to do it again. Andrew is back to fencing and Erik is in Toronto as far as I know, so Hackrifice won't be happening anymore to my knowledge. I wish I had got to one of those, they looked fun. I think the last Shred Zero in Calagary was right before I started playing. Basically, any other Jam would require plane tickets. I work Retail. I don't often have money I could spend on tickets to go kick a bag around. As much as I would love to. Generally when we have the money to do a trip I try to find some Natel (my wife) will enjoy. We're currently planning a trip to Oregon and California. And by planning I mean we know where we want to go and for how long, but we have no idea when we'll be able to afford it. My current plan is to try and have it match up to the USO so I can attend that. I think that'll be the way to go to tournaments... have them part of bigger trips with things Natel can enjoy too. I think if I was single, I'd probably fly to at least a few events a year.

In short, I know how important and motivating Jams are (They were a bullet point on my solo shredding outline...) and I'd love to get to more, but right now my goals can't be dependant on them. There, that better says what I meant by what I wrote this morning. I doubt anyone read it, but I like having things like this to look back on. Also I signed up for IFPA this morning. It said they would contact IFPA Organizers to find someone to vouch that I am indeed a member of the footbag community. I wonder they will be able to find anyone that knows who I am. :(

Yoga at lunch with Vianna.

Then footbag tonight. It turns out if I'm left to decide without a game plan what to do for exercise I choose footbag. I tried to be concious of landing on my toes, but I can't seem to make a habit of it. As a result my shins hurt. As far as highlights not much except:

 194 alternating inside kicks

Rand stuff in my workout tonight.

Started with 193 kicks for warm up.
Then I did some pushups, crunches, vertical leg reach, dumbbell lifting, skipping, bridge crunches and a few other things. Tomorrow is FOOTBAG! Oh, and I worked on my clipper a little bit.

Here is my workout schedule for the next month starting with tomorrow:

Image

You may notice I took out one day of Footbag. I've been enjoying 3 days a week, but I need to focus on loosing the weight that is keeping me from truly enjoying footbag to it's full. Without pain. I do believe that footbag is a great workout and in itself helps to lose weight and get in better shape and so on, but two sessions in a row always left my shins aching. Anyways, here's hoping this month goes as well as last month!

Over an hour footbag session today. First time in 3 years I've played this long.

I worked on.... CLIPPERS. I'm determined to get these nailed and I feel like I made progress today. Perhaps thanks to some recent research like Vasek's Manual and David's Tutorial on YouTube. I practiced alternating clippers and got a few decent sets of them. And then I messed around with ducking some more.

 Alternating Clipper x10
 Alternating Clipper x17
 Alternating clipper x5-9 a bunch
 Flip Weaving Clipper (First Time)
 Flip Diving Clipper (first time)
 Weaving Clipper>Ducking Clipper rpt

I feel goo about the amount of straight and decently high flip clipper sets I got. The last combo I tried a bunch and finally got it and felt it SO good. Been a while since I got that one combo I was pushing for. I usually end up quiting due to pain before I can finally get it. Speaking of pain. My shins hurt. And I was super careful to stay on my toes. Even lightly bouncing on my toes hurts my shins. I think they are just really messed up at this point. :?

 Ten Minute Trainer Cardio
 Ten Minute Trainer Core Cardio
 Ten Minute Trainer Upper Body

Core Cardio and Upper Body are new ones for me. They weren't included in the Getting Started Program I did for the last two months, but now that I've moved onto the Accelerated Results they are included. Core Cardio has some of the same moves as Cardio with subtle differences that end up making a pretty big difference. Some of the moves are pretty hard to do too. I've been looking forward to upper body because I feel that is something that is really really lack for me. I hope it will help make Push Ups easier for me. I found it to be a fun workout. Nothing was hard to pick up and figure out how to do, but I could really feel it working. And it uses bands in a door so all you have to do to make it harder or easier is change the distance from the door. Great for on the fly adjustments.

Had a very cardio Focused workout at lunch. Sweated lots. Felt good. Tuesday is a day off from Ten Minute Trainer in my new workout schedule so I didn't do anything tonight. In other news, i won a small contest at work and got a Gift Card. With that gift card I bought a Visa Gift card with the intent to buy some fabric and start stitching bags. I am now sad. The shipping seems to be very expensive from Fields. I can't even get .125 of 4 colors and ship it to me for $50.

I took my order down to 3 colors and it came to $48 and change. I decided to go ahead and order it. I want to start stitching. I wonder how many bags I'll be able to get out of that?

 TMT Cardio
 footbag

-195 kicks

It's way to early. Not much was happening for me in footbag this morning. I started playing earlier than I get up usually. It makes for an interesting workout and shred session. I feel good for doing it, because I won't have time at any other point today, but dammit I'm tired!

Wait. WTF?!? Cardio Twice. Cardio is one of the workouts I find easier to do. But this damn combination killed me. Tony Horton talks about Muscle Confusion as a way to keep you from hitting plateaus in you fitness level. Well, throwing Cardio at me twice in one session confused the SHIT outta my muscles.

In other thoughts, It's been a very long time since I had the urge to check the mail multiple times a day 'just in case' but I've got that going on right now. I've got both G-Units and USL on the way. STOKED! I've never stitched with anything but old shirts so I'm excited to try out the stuff the pro's make. A guy I work with already told me he wants to buy a bag... I'm not really sure why though. I think he's just trying to be supportive. He's a really good friend actually, but for some reason I never think of him as a friend, just as a coworker. He's helping me get in shape and challenging me to work harder, he's offered to help me move a few times and now he's encouraging my interest in stitching. I gotta start thinking of him as a friend.

Another side note: I can't wait until I'm at a decent weight and can start shredding daily and really improving. Damn my fatness. Oh and also: I suck at making protein shakes!

I think my body is starting to reject the junk I used to feed it regularly. I had a burger and fries tonight and felt crappy afterwards. It was hard to do my workout because I just felt blah.

Felt pretty good today. My legs hurt, but it's NOT my shins. :o
I didn't string at all really. Just drill. I feel I really need to drill alot more before I can start string to any degree. I am also afraid that If I start string right now, I'll forget to stay on my toes. Better to focus on consecutive moves and keep thinking hard about what I'm doing.

 (on flip clipper side) Inside stall>wrap around rpt x3, x5, x8, x7
 infinity x8 (wasn't really trying for this, just happened)

 142 kicks to end.

drinking a protein shake now. out

Edit: I watched Just Shred 2: like Woah this afternoon. Been a LONG time since I watched this. I loved it. A few random points that stood out. Mr. Sandbags where the rage. Everyone was using them all the time. I don't think I've seen one used in a video since I came back. Including all the video I caught up on that I had missed in my absence. I loved Allan's fairy shred when cascada came on. When that song gets going it's got a decent beat though. I also watch the NYFA 2010 Jam video today. It was awesome as well. I loved the Time Square stuff. So many people watching and interested.

Must have slept funny last night. My shoulders are aching this morning. I also have a tightness in my left calve muscle. I think that's from wraparounds. I feel like playing footbag again today though. I have 3 Ten Minute Trainers scheduled. That usually takes about 41 minutes to do. I hope to have the energy following them to have a quick shred. Off to a meeting shortly.
