Thanks you guys! I'm pretty proud of myself for making it this far. I never ever ever ever ever thought I'd be anywhere close to where I am now.

Mat, I will accept your request! I want to work on some more flipside 3's and 4's for a bit, but I will record a shred video soon. I'm well overdue for one. My last one was madd turdz.

That video is super funny!!

Congrats on Blurry torque\

couple of drills ....pick and choose what u what ....4 contact mirror drills will help your flip, your balance, you consistency and your game. if any of these are too hard ...replace a trick with one that is better for you...if they are too easy...then replace a more difficult one ....THE GOAL IS not just 4...it is to hit multiples of the drill. keep track of your progress

All are repeat combos
-stepping ss clipper> ripwalk
-torque>butterlfy
-dlo>pixie legover
-ducking clip>spinning clip
-rev up >toe butterlfy (or dimwalk)
-reverse swirl> ripwalk
-blur>butterfly (or dimwalk, or atomic ss butterfly)
-reverse swirl>buterfly swirl
-ripstein> butterfly (or ripwalk)
-gyro mirage>pixe ss butterfly (or ss butterfly)
-dyno>torque ....even if it takes you some work to repeat this one...get it both sides
-dyno>reverse swirl
-stepping ss mirage>pixie ss clip
- spinning clipper>dyno

other challenges.

-clip>sole>reverse swirl>torque
-revstein>mobius
-Ripped warrior> mobius ( as far as I have noticed....this links to both your strong sides HIT THIS!!
--dyno> ripwalk>ripwalk>dyno
-- reverse swirl>osis repeat 10 contacts
-- spinning ducking butterfly>rev up>toe torque
--30 guiltless contacts
--double swirling osis
---reverse swirling osis ( twirl )>torque
----MOBIUS> BLUR >RUN
---smear X 10 bs
--pixie torque

Those drills are good and all and worth trying (and eventually owning) but I think you should stay tiltless for a bit longer so you can develop your form better and make those big tricks even easier.

Don't get me wrong, it's sick that you can hit stuff like spike and blurry torque already and your headed in the right direction clearly, but if you beat the fuck out of that foundation you'll be suprised where footbag will take you and you'll be a really good player when it's time for you to actually go guiltless.

I only say this because you remind me of myself when i was in your position. When I was playing for 5-6 months, Ben Little told me that I could easily be guitless in another 6. I didn't really think of it much and mostly worked basics, ignoring big tricks and just working runs until I started using 2's way less in strings and started hitting shit like mobius and ripped. Alot of that big shit only took really only took a few sessions. I remember ducking my stepping set the first night I tried it, shit like that and I attribute all that to having good basics.

hopefully that will help you, sorry if that sounds preachy, but it's obviously your gonna be nasty if you stick with it, just tryin to help.

^ I do not disagree .....and honestly the way I would do it is maybe somewhere in the middle. If Nick can hit the drill then ...so be it ...great....if not then insert a tiltless trick or drill to build up to it... I do still go back and work tiltless because I skipped tricks that when I later learned .....it was obvious that I should not have skipped them. ie....I hit mobius and p torque bsos before I could hit p drifter bsos. Also I ignored illusions and still hope to dail eggbeaters bsos. Focusing on HIGH CONSTANCY and HIGH NUMBERS of tiltless drills that are preparing you for some of these can only help build a good foundation. But, there is always that devil on the other side of my shoulder that say..."you know you want it...go head....others have done it.....hit ripped warrior> mobius"
8) 8)

Well, I'm taking pieces of both of your suggestions. I had a session a little while ago and I put your suggestions to the test.

Mark: I went down some of the list for your repeat runs. the ones I hit, I could only do one time, but some of them feel good and I think with repetition, I could warm up to them and repeat them a few times.

Kevin: I made a list of all of my [uns]/unusual-looking tricks and I did tiltless strings incorporating both sides of every unusual and I also tried to link some [uns] together.

Huge thank you to both of you guys for helping me out. It's things like this that REALLY help me push it to the limit (LIMIT! PAST THE POINT OF NO RETURN!)
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhsTmiK7 ... r_embedded[/youtube]

But seriously, thank you.

Highlights:

 -stepping ss clipper> ripwalk (this was sweet, because it took me a bit to repeat it, but when I did, I felt my flip stepping set get easier, stronger, ready to hit that next stepping set in the link)
 -torque>butterlfy (felt good, because this was a big problem for me. I never knew what to hit out of torque, and the transfer from Torque> Butterfly felt smooth)
 -ducking clip>spinning clip (pretty easy, felt smooth, just need to keep doing it. Ducking and spinning are two of my stronger areas in footbag)
 -rev up >toe butterlfy (totally fucking rad. I love this link. I WILL get better at this one. Rev-Up is my strongest 4 add on both sides)
 -reverse swirl> ripwalk (felt pretty ok once I figured it out)
 -blur>butterfly (This one felt really sweet when I repeated it. Like I stated above, my stepping feels stronger now after messing with these repeats and the blurs took me little effort, then I kinda fell into the butterfly automatically)

Could only repeat all of them one time, But like I said, I'm going to keep working on them, as well as the other ones you gave me.

 Kevin's Weirdo Drill:

I really love this suggestion dude. I plan on doing this when my legs hurt, at the end of my sessions, and when I'm in pants, just hanging out. I think after I get all of my [uns] tricks bs in every weirdo drill, I'll have them drilled into my head and I will be able to call upon them so much more easily. It forced me to practice my flip dragon and flip xbd calf roll, which were both always lacking. I feel more confident in both of these now. I was doing a lot of spinning clippers, ducking clippers, butterflies, osii, pdx mirages, rev. swirls, swirls, etc.. with this, along with 2 adds. I was stringing pretty long too. So as I get better at this drill, I plan on replacing more 2 adds with 3's and later on, 4's and even later-er on, 5's (that's far off though).

I can't wait til next time I have a session. I plan on doing both of your drill suggestions again.

Kevin......thoughts? :)
yo mark whatup. I agree and disagree. Footbag is an interesting game as there is always room for improvement on things and so many little inconsistencies. I can relate to your eggbeater/pdx torque example. I could hit hit whirling swirl before symp swirl, ripped warrior before rip x10, gauntlet before blurry torque and pdx torque/mobius before I hit their drifter "counterparts".

However, once I started worked on the core components of these tricks, they got easier. I definitely didn't start add hunting much until I felt like I could do all of the tricks, they may have been because I had to confidence in myself and thought that I would never do anything cool, or because it never occured to me. I hit alot of shit in a short period of time, just like nick is doing now.

In Nick's case, he's hitting some really slick high level shit on tape. I haven't seen enough footage of him to get a good grasp for his game, but from what I can gather he is a tiltless player who can hit some nice shit which is cool, but I would rather see him hit 50 super controlled tiltless with bothsidedness rather then legovers after stepping ducking, you know?

Given that he can hit this stuff so early in his career, I know he'll be doing big things in a year or so once he plays a bit more. Not saying you need to be guiltless to hit this type of stuff but theres no need to rush towards being guiltless cause you have a few shiny moves under your belt.

On the flip of that we all probably play footbag for different reasons and whatnot. Mark your a way better player then i am (was) so i totally respect whatever you have to say.

and nick keep doing whatever your doing. If you work hard now though, big things in the future.

Don't listen to anything Kevin says. Kid's a total noob. :P

Nah, I actually agree with both him and Mark. But thats not why I"m posting here. I'm posting to say I really respect your enthusiasm for footbag. You have a really fun blog and a great outlook on footbag and life in general. I hope I can make it out to your PA jam and chill with you and your crew whenever you decide to hold it.

Sick! Thanks for the compliments, Doug! Madd appreciated! Hope you can make it out too!

So tonight, I had a short session with Stefan. He hasn't kicked in a while and he was itching to shred. He's hitting about 5 tiltless now. Clippers are looking way better though. And he hit some more swirls. RiDANKulous.

Highlights:

 Drilled
 Symposium Whirl got surprisingly easy! I experimented with it and hit a bunch of them with little effort.
 Since symp whirl got so easy, I HAD to try something. Symp Whirling Flapper Stall aka: "SINGULARITY". I thought I hit this before when I hit whirling flapper for the first time, but now I legitimately hit dat shit. Sorry for hitting another 5 add, I couldn't resist. I only hit it three times, then went back to drilling. I won't hit it again until I'm ready for 5's. PrOmIsE!

Now... I wish for there to be food in my mouth so I can ingest it and obtain it's nutrients and/or vitamins. Plus... I fucking love food.

Today, Zach Hoffster, Brian Buchan and I all played for a while. Zach recorded our session too, and he said he'll be editing it tonight. All of us played great. We were all hitting sweet guiltless strings, more or less.

Highlights:

 Sumo (Nuclear Mirage)!!! So pumped on this. My first Nuclear trick.
 Longer guiltless strings
 Pretty much have my Mixers on both sides completely dialed

I can't wait to see the video. It's gonna be a fun one, please check it out if you ain't gat nuthin betta ta do. Everyone today had such cool styles to offer.

Also Shred Global Event 3 (Flying-Ducking-Spinning) should be released tonight. Do check that out. I think it's going to be a cool ass video with sick submissions from everyone. I'm ridiculously hyped on my link for it too.

Um um um... ok bye!

Oh wait.. Play moar footbag.

Nick Pasquarello (Ohio), Tony Whitney (Canada), and I (Pennsylvania) all just had a pretty cool test run shred of this and I recommend it. I really hope other players will start to use this. It's a little glitchy at times, but it's totally cool. Pretty clear picture and everything.

I had to play more or less tiltless, since sound carries in my apartment. But I hit some cool stuff and had a good time shredding with Nick again and Tony for the first time.

Highlights:

 Tony's challenge: Knee bump> legovering heel stall

This is a really cool website, so if you have a webcam, you should definitely get in on this with us.

A video of Zach Hoffa and I (filmed by Zach's sick ass new camera). I kinda hunched here and there (something I need to work on, it's not as bad as before), but all in all I'm very happy with my game right now. I hit my very first Sumo (Nuclear Mirage) in this video too. Zach kicked ass in this too.

nice video, When you do pdx mirage maybe try tucking your leg closer to your bady as your doing the dex so that your leg makes a 90 degree angle if that makes sense, its better form, and it will make the trick easier for you :)

The only advice can offer
- clean up your torques/ make em smoother
- become more comfortable with DLO! (no more mirage!)

Youll be 1000x better if you can do those things although youre way better than me right now

Thanks Zeb, I understand exactly what you're saying. It makes a lot of sense.

And Corey, thanks for the critiques. Torque is semi-new to me. I plan on working on them when my legs feel better. And what you were saying about near mirage... I KNOW!!!! :P It's such a big habit I need to break. I schooled DLO's after this session and I was hitting them no problem on both sides. So I'll be working my ass off to get that crap out of my runs.

Thanks both of you for advising me.

So I didn't really kick at all today. I Just got back from my only 2 classes of the day and something sick happened in one of them!

The first week of my Economics class, my Chinese professor told us to write a short blurb about ourselves and we would get some extra credit. So I did, and of course, I mentioned footbag since I'm utterly obsessed with it. He wrote back saying that he had something like that in his country back home called "Jianzi" and that he was very good at it when he was younger. I was so stoked on this and he and I talked about it through email for a bit. I asked him if he would kick with me one day after class and he agreed.

...Today, Economics was so boring. So toward the end of class the professor said "OK, I realize most of you are falling asleep, because of very dry material, so I will end class in a fun way." I heard this and was kind of excited, because fun things are fun. He then pulls out a manilla envelope and says "Our fellow classmate, Nick..." My heart jumped... I had no idea what to expect. "...is going to put on a performance for us, I got this sent from my country." He pulls one of these babies out:

Image

Then throws me the shuttle cock and says that it's mine, then tells me to perform for the class. I was so unprepared! I had slip-on Vans and tighter jeans on. And on top of that, this thing was SO not like a footbag! I put on a decent-ish show for the class, then class was dismissed. I walked over to the professor to thank him. After I shook his hand, he asked to see the shuttlecock. I passed it to him and he started hacking with it! He was pretty damn good for an older guy who hasn't kicked for quite some time.

His Highlights:

 Butterfly Kick :P

We hacked back and forth for a little, while some of our class stayed and watched.

So that was a really cool footbag highlight of my day. Now I must do homehurk. Organic chem midterm next week. FUUUUUU.....

Thanks for the suggestion. I have lately been incorporating some tootsie rolls and a lot of other [uns] rolls. I've just been dabbling with them every now and again. I want to go completely Guiltless, maybe even Genuine, before I start to incorporating my [uns] jawnts. I'm talking at least around 10 Giltless/Genuine contacts in a run, consistently. Which I'm 10 or so Guiltless (also have now hit around 8-10 Genuine), but not consistently. That's an important footbag word for me nowadays... CONSISTENT. I will be that word eventually, I promised myself.

I recently saw that my name was brought up twice in the "Next Wave of Superstars" thread in General Footbag. My entire body shook when I saw that Jon Schneider said what he said. It was also really cool to see that Nick Pasquarello mentioned me too. Ever since seeing this, I've snapped into action and got extremely serious...

I've been solo-drilling my basics a lot lately (which Mark and Kevin both recommended above)... along with a lot of studying. I drill in between study breaks. It keeps me sane.

Interestingly enough, my game has recently had a huge turn around... my strongest, most comfortable set is now Atomic 8O Both sides too. It's really odd that this happened because I only started hitting atomic tricks like a week and a half ago and both sides are pretty much even. Once spring break is over, I plan on posting all of my recent highlights. I might do this from now on, instead of doing highlights every session.

I'm proud to say that I've been learning at least one new trick or link after every mini-session. I have a whole training plan for myself now and it's working well. I'm also extremely proud to announce that I HAVEN'T TRIED ONE SINGLE EFFING NEAR MIRAGE SINCE THAT LAST VIDEO!!!! :D

Have a great Spring Break everyone. We all flippin' need it.

Edit:

I've also realized lately that I want the core of my style to look like a mix of Jon Schneider, Lon Smith (which I've noticed a lot of parallels in my shred and his, nothing really huge yet though), Brian Bear, and Dave Clavens, with large influences of various tricks from Matt Cross (Creative/weird stuff and sole tricks), Mark Monistere (Swirling tricks and Torque tricks), and Nick Landes (various dragon tricks).

Out of the goodness of my heart, I'd like to thank anyone I've ever kicked with/talked to about footbag and who's encouraged me to keep shredding or given me props in a circle. Also all of the new guys who I've taught. When I teach you guys a trick, I really get to analyze that specific trick. If you guys had never been there, I probably would be playing baseballs or basketballs right meow. I've never been so driven and mindlessly dedicated to anything in my entire life.

Special shouts outs to:

Zach Hoffa:

I owe a lot of this to you, the guy who taught me pixie, stepping, fairy, atomic, and lots of other things. We push eachother to get good, and that was so cool to meet you this year since we were both around the same level then we just kept giving eachother tips and noticing different tricks the other one could probably hit. I'm so stoked to have met you and that you got back into footbag that day. Hope you'll always be my shred partner, even when I go away to Penn State Main next year... I have a feeling we will. You've become one of my best friends. You're my dude, bro.

Bob Riefer:

Same with you Bob. I owe all of my basics and a lot of my bigger stuff to you. I'm so glad that you, Drew, and Brian decided to meet up with me, a total noobster, that awesome day back in my tenth grade year. Thanks for taking me under your wing for that whole time, and being my Footbag Sensei. You've really helped me through the toughest times (when I only used my strong side, when I was hardly tiltless, etc..) and I know I've thanked you for that before, but I wanted to do it again. I hope we stay shred partners and friends for a long time too.

Drew Krause:

You're the first person I ever saw play footbag in person. You're the sole reason why I'm typing this right now. If it weren't for you, I'd still be hacky sacking in Chuck Taylors :P Thanks for putting up with me even though I was an annoying highschool kid, who's flipside was shitty and who was barely tiltless.

I sincerely don't want this whole "Special Thanks" thing to sound cocky. I just wanted to have this heard because I'm a somewhat emotional person behind the ADHD/Weirdo/Spaz, and when I feel strongly about something, or if someone deserves something, or something along those lines, I like it to be heard. I am in no way superior to any footbag player, and I know this. I feel that there is no "best footbag player" and that every player has their own unique style and trick selection that makes them the best at having their style. I never thought I would get to this level (whatever level I'm currently at) and you are the three major reasons why I've come this far.

Keep shredding..
