Todays lunch workout was pretty decent. I also talked to Ben a lot about fitness at work. He's a Tae Kwon Doe Instructor and thinking about going to school for fitness training so he's down a fair bit of reading on fitness as I am just starting to do. I was talking to him about what my plans are after I'm down this month of 10 Minute Trainer. I really like using video's as they keep me going and motivate me to give it my all, whereas if I just workout by my self I find I drink alot of water and spend a lot of time thinking about what I should do next. And I end up avoiding moves that don't feel good. Or in other words the ones I really need to do. With Video's I just do what they say. I might not get through all the reps, but I'm ready to go as soon as they switch gear. My original though was to move into P90X next. He said Insanity might be better. p90x is more about building muscles and insanity is almost all cardio. I think he has a point. We also talked about how much more intense both P90X and Insanity are than 10 Minute Trainer... Switching from TMT to either of them would be a huge adjustment. So we talked about maybe making my own program that incorporates a bit of all of them for a month, like: some TMT and footbag on Sunday, Muscle building P90X on Monday, TMT tuesday, Insanity Wednesday, ect.

So, that's my current plan. But it kinda depends on how I feel about my current TMT plan. If I still find it challenging and like I could push myself harder at it I might do the same plan for another month.

 Ten Minute Trainer Total Body 2
 Footbag

This was my first time doing Total Body 2. I really enjoyed it. It uses bands in a doorway and has a lot of upper body strength building, but at the same time you're doing lunges and stuff so the whole body is going. Footbag session was good too:

SHUT DOWN bs (flip was very dirty, but still got it. lol)
Dimwalk bs (pretty easy)
Whirl>down rpt (this felt good. Flip clipper is coming along and I can start to trust it a little)

Other than that I played with ducking osis and got quite a few with different variations. They are fun.

Went to the doctor this morning. I had had some blood work down and got the results plus a check up. She's says the blood work came back good and everything else (minus my weight) is good. She said an ideal weight for me would be 170 lbs. So I shall keep working until I get to 170 and then look to maintain my weight.

Footbag Goal: Read lots of footblogs and everytime I don't recognize a move mention look it up! Build my move vocabulary! Yay!

Footbag. Had the day off from work so I decided to play some footbag in addition to my normal workout. I turned on my webcam and filmed some basics. I'm looking for some critiquing and advice on them. Especially my flip clipper... Be gentle but honest please. You can watch in 1080p if you like, but it won't make me any better.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvUa6gefCio[/youtube]

I also shot a 1 shot today, and I'm actually not terribly dissapointed in it. I've been drilling for a while and have not really done any strings.

Was stupid and had a Donair and Fries for supper. As such am feeling sluggish. Had to ABSOLUTELY FORCE myself to do my workout. I didn't give it my all, but I still got moving and sweated. I think that counts for something. The old me would have just settled in for a night of gaming and TV.

Hey you're realy looking fitter, good for you! You don't seem to use your support leg at all, it never bends. For spin clip think of body and set leg as being decoupled motions (not connected)l

Thanks Bob, On spinning, do you mean to make sure I set and. then. spin. Instead of setandspin. If that's not what you meant would you mind elaborating. I sent Jorden a PM asking him to have a look at the video and I wanted to put his response here for easy reference:
Jorden wrote:Hey Tony,

Overall, your game looks pretty good. Just a few small things that should help:

Toe stalls - keep your shoulders higher. this can be done by tightening the abs and keeping the back straight. not too robotic though - it's important to stay relaxed. ;)
also, bring your hips forward. shoulders, hips and heels (when planted) should form a straight line.
it's important when you set a toe stall to think of it like pedaling a bicycle backward. it's much easier when it's a backwards circular motion (helps to lean back right before the set). you can bring the stalled bag more forward, straightening the leg a bit and with a flick of the ankle send it back towards yourself.

Clipper - body position is fine. back could be a bit straighter.
Try to land the stall and the support foot at the EXACT same time. Right now your support foot is landing first.
For same side magic hop clippers, you can just put the clipper foot down right below where it was. There's no use bringing the clipper leg parallel to the other if it's going back to the same position again. :p
It helps to balance on the outer edge of your support foot during the stall. always bend the support knee slightly. Practicing the clipper with magic hop is most important -- the non-plant not so much, and can be worked on later on.
Try to keep the support foot under you instead of putting it forward during the magic hop (especially your flipside!) Find your balance without doing this by twisting the torso more towards the bag while isolating the legs.

Spinning: I wouldn't worry about it too much at your stage. Keep practicing your stalls with good the timing and body position. Training osis and frigidosis will help you lead up to perfect spins. I think you are ready for these 2 moves!

Some helpful drills for you:
1. alternating hopping toe stalls (set only a few inches off the ground, just the magic hop sets and cushions)
2. inside stall > walkover > opp inside stall > walkover [rpt]
3. inside stall > wrap > opp inside > wrap [rpt]
4. inside stall > same foot clipper (w/ magic hop but no plant) [rpt]
*the stalling foot never plants. practice setting the bag exactly where your foot is going to be instead of pivoting. do 2 support foot hops between each stall for timing. do drill on both sides
5. toe > (no plant) same foot clipper [rpt]
*same thing. no planting the stalling foot and no pivoting, just magic hops. this will help develop the backward pedaling motion for toe sets. do on both sides
6. repeating same foot frigidosis (no plant, no turning head to other side), then other side
7. osis > same clipper [rpt] (catch osis in frigidosis position before turning your head)

Jorden
Ryan sent me a PM and said I could repost it here.
ThomASS wrote:Flip clipper, the best way that I have learned is by comparing my strong to weak. I find it hard to give exact advice or advice from the general way to do a clipper because everybody has an individual body type. When I was watching your video I looked for 3 things. I was looking for the amount of time from when you planted your support leg to the time you caught the bag. I think your stronger clipper you planted and prepared earlier, caught your balance, and THEN made the clipper. Your weaker…soon to be stronger ;) has a smaller window of time.

I was also looking for the amount of time the bag was actually on your clipper foot for the whole motion. My strong clip contacts the bag high up and gently comes down with the bag…like catching an egg. I believe the more time you are contacting the bag the more control you will have for the set. Your strong does this a little more but I think it can be deeper.

And your arms are different left to right. On your strong clipper you have a strong left arm. On your weak clipper, you have a weak right arm. I definitely find that putting some mind in your hand helps the clipper. Just compare your both sides and use that because I think your strong clipper is a good example to follow…when you are on balance. Look how active and intent your left arm is during the clippers. For an example of arm mastery there is one string of vaseks in the first king of footbag….it is amazing to watch. It is at the 1:10 mark. Even though it is not the clipper to same hand that I’m talking about - it is still the same idea.

I haven’t read most of your blog but I can tell that you are genuinely interested in getting better and I’ve been told that that is what it takes.

As for spins, personally I wouldn’t do them yet. Because there is an incredible amount of work that you can put into the basics. For everyone not just you. But again everyone learns their own way and those ways are all awesome.

I’ll try to put my outline down for you.

Quickly learned.
Quickly fell.
No foundation.
...5 years frustration :)
Presently relearning.
I love footbag!
Today's session I will do the following:
-200 backwards bicycle pedal toe stalls.
-inside stall > walkover > opp inside stall > walkover [rpt] left foot
-inside stall > walkover > opp inside stall > walkover [rpt] right foot
-50 Magic Hop Strong Side Clippers
-50 Magic Hop Flip Side Clippers

Did some of Jorden's Drills and practiced some of his and Bob's advice. Thanks again guys.

-200 backwards bicycle pedal toe stalls. (100 each side)
-inside stall > walkover > opp inside stall > walkover [rpt] (100 I counted the walkovers to make it easy to keep track. That means it may only by 50 of the drill total)
-50 Magic Hop Strong Side Clippers
-50 Magic Hop Flip Side Clippers

Really focused on bending my support leg more and tightening my abs/keeping straight. I think it helped a lot. Will keep at these drills for a while.

Did some light footbag before cool down. Just Toes and Clippers. Gonna try to do light drilling daily in addition to whatever my planned workout is.

EDIT: Also just had a short session with Nick and Nick via webcam. I did mostly strings which are VERY VERY rusty, but i managed a few decent ones. I also gave Nick Polini an [UNS] challenge and actually hit part of it myself. I think with a bit of drilling I could hit it all. The challenge was pimpin legover heel. I can hit pixie knee bumping fairly well, but not with control enough to hit something so foreign to me as legover heel stall after it. I did manager to hit legover heel stall on it's own though. Nick had to be quiet so couldn't really try the pixie set, but he hit legover heel as well. I'm sure he'll be able to hit in no time. I hit a few whirls as well. Nothing too notable though.

Dude, I've never really read your blog before, but I think this blog is such a cool idea and it looks like it's working. From the first pictures you posted of yourself, you look so much more fit! Totally awesome, and madd props! Footbag really can benefit you in some crazy ways.

That was definitely a sweet session. Gotta do it again soon. And props on the legover heel. That was sweet. Keep shredding man, I'm definitely going to start following this. Cya soon.

Edit: And thanks for the challenge, I never would have thought to hit knee bump> legovering heel! Props on hitting the legover heel part! You could hit it all soon.

Well, I'm stupid. I kept shredding. I feel some pain in my shin now. Oh well. I came really close to hitting pimpin legover heel. Like I got the stall, but couldn't get the momentum to get it back up and seal. I also hit legover heel flipside. Pretty fun. I reorganized my challenge thread today. Looking at the completed challenges is depressing. I had some tried at one of them since I had my gear on.

Osis>whirl rpt

I had a few decent looks at it, but ultimately my flip whirl isn't NEAR strong enough to hit. Also I had someone point out recently that I had a 6-add trick listed as a five in my tricks listing in that thread. I've since deleted the entire list since It isn't near acurate anymore, but it feels good to have hit a 6. lol

Thanks for the kind words Nick. Also, thanks for saying I have nice pixie sets.

Hey - to clarify what I mean by leg and body being decoupled during spins... It's easy to let your entire body spinning make your set foot be along for the ride, and therefore the set becomes unpredictable. And really good spinners do sometimes look like their whole body is making the set go. But really, the set and the spin are detached from each other in my opinion. It's a nuanced thing, but if you can separate the two motions (like a russian dancer that can kick their legs while their upper body stays still) the set will be straight and you'll come around and have an easier time finding it. By "separate the two" I do not mean set > pause > spin. I mean that as you start to spin, don't let your body drag the set leg around and force a diagonal unpredictable set. The set is still just like a normal clipper set that happens to be a split second removed from your body spinning. If that's clearer than mud, I've succeeded :-)

I think I get what you're saying, Bob.

Played today. Mostly worked on self challenges. Got 5 of them! See my challenge thread for those details. Link in Sig.

Also got 94 op toe stalls. And 61 and a bunch between 20 and 40. My challenge was 100. I think I got cocky as got so close. That happens a lot to me with consecutive challenges. "Oh my gosh. I'm gonna get this! I can't wait to blog about it's gonna be so cool. The feeling of accomplishing somethi-" DROP!

I'm not sure exactly how long I played for today. My manager from work called because she didn't know how to do something and needed me to walk her through it. After that she called back but I ignored it. Maybe I should become a manager. I know more than they do...

Another small highlight was hitting some rather controlled flappers on my flip. Still not consistent by any means, but i think working on them and my clipper will help each other become better. Pretty stoked on my flip clipper today. It was feeling more natural.

Yikes. After playing footbag earlier today I'm spent. But I enjoyed the footbag session so it was worth it. I need to stop pushing myself though. I felt shin splints and an odd pain in my left knee today. I'll be monitoring the knee pain closely and I've been doing shin splint exersises today.

Also, my phone had a major glitch today. I have an Android phone and since Samsung didn't provide updates to it for newer versions of Android I've hacked it to run the latest OS, but it is not what you would call stable... I had to completely reinstall the OS today. What a fun way to spend my afternoon. (The sad part is I kinda did enjoy it...)

Work was dumb today. I'm pretty sure one of my managers got fired for theft and our District Manager and a guy from Home Office was here. Always a bit of extra stress with higher ups in the building. All of this left everyone in bad moods. Me and Vianna's workout at lunch was forced, but we still went for it. I couldn't do the reps I usually could. Oh well. That'll happen once in a while. I got home and went to my computer to transfer our TV shows to a HDD to hook up to our WD TV and watch on the big screen and I seen a brown box hiding on my chair!

G UNITS!!!

Saweet! I tried them on, went to E-Bay, left positive feedback (in case I mess up with modding and take my frustrations out on the seller), scarfed down my food and started cutting. Got them modded now. Only played for a few minutes, but they feel good. The insole seems think. I know that's good for support, but it makes me feel too tall and a bit awkward. I'm hoping that feeling will go away. I busted out 30 ss FLIP clippers to an easy hand catch without really being warmed. Tomorrow I'll try to check off a few challenges while wearing them. So stoked. I'm also pretty sure my fabric is at the post office, so I'll have to go pick that up tomorrow.

First real session in the G Units. Overall I'm really happy with them. The toe is going to some some adjustments. I never cut off the walls of my lavers, but I'm been using Quantums so long that I forget how to play with walls a bit. That's ok, I'll adjust. Or, get frustrated and cut them off. We'll see. I have a heard a few people say the toe takes a bit of getting used to. I think that kicks are the thing in my game that suffered the most due to the shoe switch. Odd, but my inside kicks are angling a little bit funny. a few highlights:

 102 toe stalls to a hand catch. I was winded and super happy I broke 100
 fairy>mirage rpt
 ducking clipper>Paradox Mirage>down hit this bs
 fairy>illusion>rpt hit this starting on both sides

All of those were challenges. I also hit a decentish run (for me) as my one shot. Another random observation about my g units. They are HUGE. They fit my feet well enough. I used to wear size 9. That's what my lavers and quantums have been. But the quantums I've been using have felt tight for a while and I my toe keeps popping holes in them. I have a fresh pair of lavers and they are downright tight, so I got 9.5 g units. I kicked myself more this session than ever before. Again, I'll adjust just fine. :)

Switching shoes is always an adjustment. That said, I'm a big fan of the g-units. I feel like they cushion better, so even though they may initially feel chunky, they should ultimately be easier on your feet/shins.

What's your alternating clipper record? Whatever it is, my challenge is for you to double it. If you haven't set one yet, set one at your next shred, and then have it doubled 2 months from now.

It's funny you comment on the G Units. First time I played in them I tried to channel you and Eli to improve my game. lol It didn't work. As for the challenge:

My current record is 32. Or at least since I've been back that's my record. So I need to get 64. As soon as I hit 30 I made a new goal of 50 so that's not too much out of reach. I'll try for it next session. Thanks so much for the challenge!
