I am not sure which part of China Peter went to, but the last time i talked to a Chinese friend who is a shuttlecock player on msn, he told me that they were so eager to meet with footbag freestyle players from the west sooo badly. Not only him, but the shuttlecock association of Canton also wanted to invite one of the professional footbag player such as Vasek klouda, Jim penske etc.. to China and show them how is done. They also want to know how to make a footbag probably.

Speaking from personal experience, I used to play footbag when I was in Hong Kong, even though I was a totally beginner. There were still some curiosity people came up to me and asked me about footbag.

SlashC wrote:Wow amazing stuff! It would be interesting to visit their group in China and kick with them. I am digging the variety that they have using mostly basic stalls, dexterities, and kicks.

I can't help but notice that they all set from their toe towards the outside of the knee. I think they would be better at most dexterities if they learned how to do toe stalls setting towards the inside of the knee. I admit setting towards the outside of the knee creates a certain aesthetic, but it requires more effort for every dexterity except ss mirage and ss pickup.

I wonder what kind of shoes/slippers they are wearing?

I used to wear those shoes, but then I switch to Rod Laver for footbag. (It took me years to get my first rod laver lol)

I don't know the English name of the shoes, but I call those shoes Kung fu shoes.

Maybe so Zach, but only in the last two days have Chinese players been posting threads on the modified AND footbag.org forums. They have been asking how to compete in Worlds 2011 and have said they want to develop footbag in China. It sounds like some of them are going to Finland this year.

I think that's pretty exciting.

I have posted shuttlecock videos in the past with vary little interest taken on modified.

It is confirmed, my Chinese gf and i are moving to china to raise our Canadian/Chinese children in the next 2 years.

im surprised this merge hasn't happened sooner, to bad... with the world ending and all.

figures footbag gets more known and then your dead.

I have been working on a footbag - shuttle-cock hybrid.

Really? I'd be interested in playing with one of those!

I used to have a kick birdie thing I got from, I think, Flying Clipper.

Shuttlecock is cool; we could benefit from the focus on form, as they could benefit from our focus on technicality.

Oddly enough, my Economics professor, who is Chinese, gave me one of these Shuttlecocks today in class. I wrote the story up in my blog if anyone's interested. Pretty interesting series of events that lead up to it.

Anyway, what I really came here to say is, I would give my left nut to be able to hit the above the head sole stall  Actually, with a left nut missing, I might be able to pull that off.

I was in China last year and met up with the double SC players in Beijing. They have great skills with SC and they play some decent footbag too. Problem is: the language barrier...A lot of young Chinese people interested in this stuff are not able to read and understand in English, thus they have problems understanding which disciplines are featured in tournaments, how performances are rated whatsoever.

The double players are defo eager to come to Finland this summer to compete at Worlds.

Apart from that footbag has some big potential in China as almost every youngster is playing shuttlecock with his/her friends in school.

In February CCTV broadcasted a TV show about Freestyle Football, Footbag and Shuttlecock in which I took part aswell. So, let's see where this is heading.

Their handmade Shuttlecocks are defo worth buying! I got one in Beijing, very nice for trying something different!

Yeah, Japan initially had this problem too. Back in 02 there were no footbag resources in Japanese, and most player's English wasn't good enough to understand the footbag resources in English on the web. I remember having to clarify/explain a lot of things in Japanese in person. Once they created a japanese footbag webpage and forums, people got better a lot faster.

Another problem is China block many websites on the internet such as, youtube, facebook, twiiters, and many other websites. I once tried to show my friend who lives in China a video, the video which was hosted on vimeo. My friend took around 40 minutes to load a 3~4 mins clip.
