been playing a lot lately, me and Caroline played almost every day in the last week (I think 5 of the last 7 days).
Also, a guy got in touch with me who's been living in China a few years and playing a lot of Jianzi. He's just moved to Canberra and wants to kick with us. That could be something a bit of fun.
I should also practice some Sepak Takraw for our trip to South East Asia.
Today I was feeling good, having some nice long runs. It was so humid though, a very sweaty session.

Played a few days this week too. I hit stepping swirl for the first time the other day, I have hit a lot of new tricks in the last month or so, since I got a lot more control over far swirl, so that's nice to do. Some sessions I have been playing really well, hitting long runs, I have been hitting a lot of 5>5 links, but 5>5>5 links have been more elusive.
Other days I have not been playing that well. We have a date now for Nationals, so I guess it's time to start planning a routine. Think I know which song I will use too.

I still haven't got the mark back for the piece I wrote about Footbag for uni, but I decided I would post it up on here.
Originally I planned to make it a history of Australian Footbag as a whole, but the word count was not anywhere near enough. So I changed it to be from a much more narcissistic view point, it was a look at my experiences in Footbag over the last 10 or so years.
I plan on extending this work and make something more, I was thinking of getting it ready by Nationals this year, but I don't know if I will have the time for that.
The piece can be read here: http://capital-eyes.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... -kick.html

Got some very exciting news (footbag related today).
Will post more once I know more, but things are looking pretty good.
Also, signing a lease on a house today, our real estate agent sold our place, so we had to find a new place for a few months, but we ended up with an awesome place actually, so that's pretty exciting.
Caroline went to Vegas today or yesterday, would be pretty good to go to the Vegas jam or London jam this weekend, think I might go watch the Raiders in Sydney, hopefully they play better than last weekend, that was dismal.

Played today, for nearly an hour solo. Went to the Civic skatepark and played really well.
hit stepping ducking symp mirage (bs spikehammer)
had paradon swirl come off my foot
had some long runs, my last one finished with two 5's (bs blur, spinning ducking osis)
Was just feeling pretty strong, I had been sitting at a desk all day, it felt great to do some physical activity.

So I got the mark back for that paper I wrote about Footbag, I got 85%, which is a high distinction. The teacher said she was "surprisingly engaged in the world of Footbag".
I was a little disappointed that I didn't get a HD for the whole subject, I was only 2 marks off, but that was pretty good anyway.

Hit some new tricks in the last couple of days I have been happy with
- swifter
- pdx barrage
- witchdoctor
Had a great session yesterday, played again today, but was a bit sore so there weren't too many highlights.
Here is a run from today...

had a pretty good kick with Dyalan and Mitch in Sydney at Bondi Beach. I hit a bunch of tricks that I hit for the first time recently, and it was good to hit them again to show it wasn't a one off. This included blurry drifter, swifter and a couple of others.
We went for a quick swim but there were no waves and the rain was imminent, so that didn't last too long, but it was a good way to finish a great weekend. Bit of a bummer to be back in Canberra and back at work.
We're moving house this weekend, looking forward to a bit of a change. Has a nice backyard and some good spaces to kick as well.

So I haven't written in this for ages.
I've been trying to play every day, not always for a long time, because it's really cold in Canberra at the moment.
I went on a bit of a trip to a bunch of places in Australia recently, I'll be moving on pretty soon, so wanted to go to some cool places and see some mates. I kicked with Jeremy and Lotus in Hobart, Ryan in Melbourne and a freestyle football guy, Joe Davies in Brisbane. That was a fun little trip.
Copey just started working across the road from me, so we've been having lunch together most days. I try to practice my routine each day. We have nationals in 2 weeks and a bit...
Something that I haven't said too much about, because you never know with these things, is that I'm going to Malaysia next week. A long time ago this guy in Malaysia was going to organise a big footbag thing, but it never got off the ground.
Some other guys contacted me about doing something different, so I will be heading over there next week. The first trip will be to try and teach some sepak takraw players learning some freestyle tricks, the second trip (the week after nationals) will be to judge the first ever Malaysian championships...
So that will be fun, and then I am actually going to Malaysia a few weeks after that, Francisca and I are going to go Malaysia>India>Nepal>Thailand>Cambodia>Vietnam then back to Australia. A few weeks later we will hit the road and head to Chile.
So it's a pretty exciting back end of the year, that's for sure!

Wow, leave something for retirement!
Are there actually freestyle players in Malaysia?
Sucks to play in the cold. I had a terrible footbag time during the winter here, even though I tried to play regularly. Just grind through it or visit the north hemisphere for a change!

So we will have to wait a couple more weeks to find out about the Malaysian footbag situation. I was meant to be going this weekend, but they canned that trip at the last minute (yesterday).
I already had to fly to Melbourne anyway, so I've kept that flight, and my day off work. I'm going down to Melbourne tomorrow, going to kick with a few guys. Looks like even Brendan Erskine might come along for a kick (maybe Lynton might join him....).
Brendan actually taught me how to do swirls back in 2002. I didn't have Lavers (that didn't come for a few more years), I could barely hit mirage, but I had a pretty strong clipper coming along, so reverse swirl was actually one of the first tricks with a bit more difficulty that I ever learnt.
From Melbourne I'm going to fly to Sydney, can hopefully get in some shred with the Sydney gang, then back home.
The week after we've got Nationals. I've been going through my routine everyday. Had it with 2 drops yesterday and 3 drops today. Today's routine felt good. It's good having Copey to have lunch with because he will give me some critical feedback.

We have our nationals next week, I don't think anyone cares too much and there's not going to be much of a high standard in the competition as most people haven't been playing that much, but it should still be a fun weekend, and pretty much all the players that are active at the moment in Australia are coming down.
I have been playing a fair bit lately, I had some kicks in Melbourne, on Friday with Ryan and on Saturday with Dan and Brendan. I also kicked today with Dyalan in Sydney.
Before he arrived I was going through my routine. I had three tries. 2 drops (it was dropless up until 1:40 as well), 2 drops and 3 drops. So not a bad average. That's the kind of area I'm hoping for, 3 drops or less.
I don't really have too much else to report footbag wise. Just been going through the routine so haven't been trying many new tricks.
