That is all,
Well then. New page. Figuratively, I meant.
I've been kicking with the Destroyer once a week for a few weeks. It is intense to say the least. I honestly feel like he will be one of my favourite friends to have ever had.
It may not be a friend that you see every day, tell every thought to, or experience the most with... Not sure what to say, or how to justify it, but it just feels unreal to have one of the best players in the world go walk in a snow storm with you, find a random corner of a mall, and play footbag for 2 hours... No appointments, no secretaries, just a phone call and a kebab, and then some hacky sack. I consistently have watched his session series for the last few years, but now just as he re-uploads them for the world... It is phenomenal to realize that before I even began playing he had changed the way footbag could be played. Every experience I have had yet in footbag, he has already went through, already mentally analyzed, and first understood, then appreciated. So, when in a session I say "Hey Jorden, I want to hit down double down swirl for the first time today", and we both nod, and agree we must hit it perfectly both sides. I fail once or twice, he indexes 2007, tells me his findings... I hit it both sides, overdex it a few times, and now achieved a new Juho. Then we move onto furious near whip, symp twirl b2b.. In any hindsight it seems like a perfect sin wave, where in a way the achievement is the actual conquering of the idea, and the journey goes from the trough of the idea's creation, to the journey on how to hit it.
With no one else do sessions just spawn so much brain activity for me. When I have a session with Jorden, many times it just feels like a giant invention session. Not that the moves we are hitting are new, but so many things feel new, giving me the same feeling as when we filmed badassery. We spent a few minutes today on things such as whirling near symple pickup, and trying to replicate mistakenly executed moves just for the fun of it. I'm not sure how long it took to get to the point to have these sessions with Jorden, but I'm glad I'm at least realizing the magnitude of them now. I repeat however, how nice it is to have a friend to play footbag with. Not that I doubt in any way that when 99% of footbaggers play together that it is a friendship of sorts, but reaching the point at which you can easily not play footbag and have a sustainably interesting time...
I'm not heading where I want with this.
Restart.
Jorden and I played footbag today. He hit massive shit. I learned new shit. Whoopee.

Well, Vegas jam has come and gone. Many a person was met, lots of footbag was played, and overall it felt like a nice jam. I didn't drink or party, at all, so I felt like in a way I was missing out on a large part of the jam.
I hit some things of note, but one that felt quite awesome in particular...
->Furious ducking, twice. One ground stall, one toe.
I did more furious, successfully, than I think I had ever tried before. It felt quite nice.
The weirdest part about this jam, was that I probably played over the time period of 4+ hours per day, over 3 days. Not that I was in a constant circle the entire time, but I was warm and ready to play for that long each day. This is for context of the next part of yee old story.
On Sunday, my back was already feeling quite quirky, and annoyed from the first day. This bothered me, but it didn't feel like it was in any immediate danger, just a bit tired, so I continued. Without noticing, half way through the day said back pain completely disappeared. I was the last one playing on this day, to the point that everyone had their gear on, and I was still trying to hit stupid hard tricks. I had some coconut water accompanied by Benjamin Benulis, and then the next day was already upon me.
On Monday, outside Evan's house I played yet again, starting the first circle, and continuing through until some people started playing for the second time of the day. My legs were initially already beat, and my back was only slightly tired. I pushed through it, because it was the last day, and because the sunshine just felt so darn snazzy. I remember when my legs felt the most beat of the day, I said to myself "I have to -beat- my legs, I can't be defeated", and just pushed through a 20->30 contact shuffle run, and that felt really good. I played probably another two hours after this, where Evan began to play and I said "I must stop after I hit a perfect flip 3 spinning whirls in a row". Eventually, after a few seals, I hit the "perfect" one, and it felt quite satisfying to win. For some reason my body wasn't sore, had no real feeling of cramping up or anything.
Now, fast forward to Thursday evening. I couldn't play on Tuesday due to an unconscious sleeping state, and Wednesday I had so much work to do I didn't play either. After doing about 6 hours of homework tonight, I said "fuck this", fixed a hole in my shoe, talked to Jorden, and played some foosback. I felt, extremely uncoordinated.
Like, we're talking a drunken starfish trying to butter corn on the cob. I just felt all over, couldn't feel the bag, felt like my crank was 10 degrees less than average (so, 90 degrees) and began to feel a bit worried... What had I become, please don't tell me this is how I'll feel from now on. I was definitely not in any state of 'Tora'. Then, for some reason, I decide to try and do some furious. It was working at Vegas, and swirls are taking a shit, so lets try it.

That is about the most accurate description of what my legs were.
Holy mackerel, my legs actually felt like fucking pistons of death. Once I did a few furious sets, I thought to myself "How is this possible", and then notice, for the first time since I ~broke~ my back at Goldberg's, my back felt like a fucking fist. I was standing up straigher than I could ever want to. It was like I couldn't do anything but reach for the friggen ceiling. Some more furious comes about... For some reason I get the bright idea to try terraging. Boom, a fucking epic terraging set. I try flipside frantic, just for shits... The world was my Oyster, suddenly I could do frantic set. My other side terraging set also was feeling legendary.. Scarily strong.. I don't know what the hell is happening.. Bang, terraging opp whirl. Not just a terraging opp whirl, but like a fucking baus. What the shit is this. I then do sunil->jani->sunil->ja drop, like I was doing toe stalls. I do a few more furious sets on my flip, and they are ALL going bellybutton height. I do a furious near clipper, that I could have whirling swirled. My legs were honestly a shotgun.
I then decided to do some blenders, because I was thinking terraging opp blender would be cool. For some reason I try a new, "method" of the dex on a blender. Like fucking magic, strong and flipside, it feels like I can't drop blenders. I then do a few far blenders.. Take some time to re-configure the dex for the next dex type... Feels good.
Then, for the first time in my life, Spender felt legendary. Evan told me some tips for timing on Spenders, which gave me something to think about. With yee old straight as a board back, legs that felt like Vasek, I pop off at least 10 spenders each side, feeling stronger than I have ever, ever before. It felt like my body was doing what Vasek was doing in 2004, just ripping shit without giving it a second thought. It reminds me of the first time I saw "Venom" take over Spiderman on a VHS tape, and just do badass stuff. I really have no idea what is going on.
I have no idea what will happen tomorrow. Or what happened today.

hello jay,
i really enjoy reading your blog. it's actually the only reason i regularly check modified to see if you put down something new. i wanted to tell you that in paris, but i didnt want to appear like a weirdo.
after reading your last post i went out to today with the idea trying to try nemesis until i hit it.. well, turned out to be a good idea and after a couple of hundred tries of them maybe a dozen footed, i finally hit it and it felt just so damn good.
thanks man!

Well then. Today I did something extraordinarily simple, that will make my loins firm for years to come. I put shred mats in my basement room, and bought two fluorescent lights so I wouldn't have to deal with crappy lighting and shadows. Now, this is by no means a Goldberg shred palace, but now I will not be plagued with age old questions, such as "How many symposium twirls must one do on concrete in order to shatter a wallaby?", or "Were those 1000 stepping ss clippers really necessary?". Instead, I can just hack like it was 1995.
Accompanied by this, I decided to try and film some dunkaroos. No dice. I did film my first flying clipper practice, ever. I got my first flying clipper b2b today. It took me 4.5 years, but I did it 'Ma. Fack. I also found out that I can easily warm up with furious now, which is cool. After all the toe warmup I usually do, I got into stepping sets, and after I got about 20 stepping ss clippers, I thought "Hey, I could probably do step->side->step->sunil pretty easily"... Easy it was. Then I did some stuff like step far clipper->rip->step far clip->jani first try both sides...Etc. I suppose furious might become a part of my game now. I'm thrilled. After that I tried some weird ideas I have thought of recently, mostly new sets. I don't know, I got some of them on video, but hitting stuff out of 5 add sets is kind of ballsy. Maybe when I'm older.
Jorden told me I should begin to video-document my progress, even if just because a few years from now, I'll actually have documentation of all the weird stuff I am trying. He claimed that without his session videos, he wouldn't have remembered half the stuff he had tried to, or successfully did hit. So, I guess when I'm feeling a bit romantic I'll bring my camera/tripod downstairs with me. Tonight was one of those nights.

For the record, I got the ripstein drill, and came quite close to replacing ripstein with whirr. I don't know why I didn't try these before. Thanks to Evan for asking me to do whirr->hpd*rpt in Vegas.
Sir Rene,
I'm glad that through any amount of grunting or kicking you hit your first nemesis. Probably one of the better feelings in Footbag, being beaten only by a good Kebab, or sauna. Thanks for the blog appreciation, it makes me feel warm and cozy.
Props.
My terraging wasn't quite as much of a shotgun, and I merely cleared the third dex a few times. It is kind of hard to get the set to go nicely for a nemesis, where as that whirl you can turn your body to make it happen. I'll get it soon, just need some fresh legs.

Had a really aggressive 3 hour session today. Hit some stuff that I think is something I'd like to look back at.Heeey Fizzied....Whaat's happening..?
-swirling paradox drifter.
-fusing switch, bs.
-parkwalk -> triage*rpt
-Ripped warrior*6
-step-sunil*rpt*3 bs.
-Matador->ripped warrior*rpt.
More notably, made huge progress in regaining my former strong nuclear, which became a weak side when my clipper took a shit.
-Some fantastically both sided spinning combos. Inspin/inspinosis/doubles/whatever else. Trying to get some Allan Haggett inspiration.
-Infinty->mobius*5 bsos.
-Shut near twist up->shut twirl bs.
In other news, I'm battling between two potentially fantastic job opportunities at the moment. One in Texas, one at my school in Hamilton. They are both "possibilities" at the moment, but I'd hate to get accepted to both and reject one. Just seems like a giant dick move, when you have two different parties giving you such a good opportunity. If any of you diplomatic folk such as Ken have had experience in this matter, I'd love some advice.
I'm going to make a banana/strawberry smoothie. Oh Felix, you dreamboat.

I say neither, come to Boise
Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

If this trick isn't already nicknamed this, I vote we call it "shut up."jay7 wrote:-Shut near twist up.

Do you prefer either job? Let's say you prefer Job A to Job B. Here are the potential situations, and how I would deal with each.
1. Job A gives you an offer first. Since you already know you prefer A, contact Job B and let them know that while you appreciate their time, you have received another job offer and are taking it, since logistically you just can't turn it down.
2. Job B gives you an offer first. Call Job A, let them know you have an offer in hand, but they are still your top choice. Therefore you'd like to get a response from them in the next few days. Job B will always give you a few days to get back to them with a final response, and this puts pressure on Job A to act on your application fast.
3. One Job rejects you and the other gives you an offer. No quandary, just take the job.
4. Both jobs reject you. Spend the summer in Boise playing footbag, or apply to other jobs.
If you really value both jobs equally, I'd recommend you make a spreadsheet comparing the two, based on things that matter to you. So I'd make the columns be categories like: pay, location, weather, housing costs, shred scene, conflict with footbag tournies?, cultural attractions, etc. There would then be two rows, Job A and Job B. Doing this kind of exercise often helps me realize which of two options I really prefer. Feel free to mail or call me if you have any questions about this.

Hey Modified. I have an ultra important, life changing, serious business matter to address here. The boy who surged, the man that whirred, the man who brought us Anssi Sundberg, who brought me Kebab, is now accepting payment for how awesome he is. Lord Felix Zenger has culminated multiple years of beatbox experience, including fending off swooning women, crowds of 10,000+, and traveling all over the world, into a CD just for you.

"Won't Say a Thing" is an 11 track Album, that comes out on Wednesday, the 20th of the littlest month of April. You can also buy a shirt, which in all likelihood will make you as cool as the man himself. When I was in Finland, he gave me a "single" CD, which happens to be the ONLY CD I keep in my car. I listen to it, at least once a car ride. It is catchy, passengers have liked it, and I want more. As for his new CD, I bought two.
You might ask yourself "But why little Jay, why? You don't get MORE music if you buy TWO CDs?". I answer you, young sailor, "Oh yes, but there is a deal involved here". I'll give it to you straight. I want more Felix footage. You know what? Vasek wants more Felix footage. And the deal is, if we all buy enough albums, we WILL get more Felix footage. You know that footbag video with 1,219,219 views on Youtube that you showed your Grandma during easter dinner? You could get more of where that came from. Hence, young sailor, I bought two.

You might be saying to yourself "But Jay, this is absurd, Felix hasn't played in quite a while". But he has. I got to play with him, not in one, but five circles in the last two years. At both NYJ's, he has WON Horse. Keep in mind, Finland has 10+ baps, most of them attending these things. This year we were the last men standing in Horse, and his last combo, [which made me look like a girl], was Pixie near symp whirl->stepping near symp whirl->far symposium twirl. He even smirked afterward. Two years ago, I remember seeing the man do marius->Sunilwalker->montage. Do you know how hard that is? Do you know who does furious out of double spinning whirl, in 2011? Felix does.
So yeah, buy his CD, buy it for your own birthday, buy it for your hamster's birthday. I want new Felix footage more than I want Kebab, and if I have to post three pictures and a blog video to entice you to buy it, I will. If it weren't for Felix, I wouldn't be drinking coconut water right now. If it weren't for Felix, I wouldn't have made it to the airport the last time I was in Finland. If it weren't for Felix, I also would not know how to hit nemesis b2b. Just, fucking buy his album.

Here is your blog video. If one person posts here that they bought his album, I'll post me hitting more.

Hey Erik,
It would be based upon total sales, but it would be very appreciated if he also got support from the shred community. It would also be a shred video, not made by Jere. I'm sure it would be top-notch, as I mean, he is Felix.
I've listened to "I Has a Dog" about 6 times on repeat now. I'm excited for the whole thing.
