Wow man, that's crazy news. 7 years is a long time to be with someone. I hope that everything turns out ok, but I'm sure it will with time.

I think one good thing is that you have some goals set for yourself; you have something to work towards and keep your mind focused.

Good luck and maybe I'll see you in Japan again...

Yeah- that's a good way of looking at it. After this many months, I actually am grateful that I have the options that now have. There's a bit of phantom-limb-disorientation and emotional noise but I am glad that I can concentrate on myself for a bit.

Japan is the most amazing place I have visited. I wish I could be there right now helping out in some capacity. Thanks again for showing us around.

Hey Ian, I know how hard it is to separate with a long-term girlfriend. Time heals all wounds. Hope you don't get too bent out of shape about it though. You can't let shit like that ruin your life. That's how I thought about it at least.

Anyway, time is coming closer to when I move to Main Campus and we can start kicking regularly/semi-regularly. I just filled out the final forms for my apartment. Pretty hyped.

Keep at it man, and I'll be seeing you before you know it.

Peace dude.

Thank you for the words, Nick. I am stoked that you are going to be around. Working my game back up from the dead in preparation. The good news is that I am in very good shape again, though I do need time to recover between sessions, it seems.

Also, I tried your advice. I lower my foot when stalling so I can raise up with my knee and foot to step- while it works well on my left side, my right side it makes little difference, if not making it worse! I have no idea what's up. Perhaps I post a bunch tries.

Yeah no prob man. And that sounds odd. Yeah post some attempts. Also, if you wanna get a look at the other shredder who will be joining us at main campus next year, check out my blog. I'm about to post a video of us shredding. He's still tiltless, but he's improving quickly.

Cya later man.

Took your advice. Total gold. Between your advice on stepping set and Nathan's advice on whirl, drifter and torque (December-just now having a chance to apply it) I am very excited about the future of my game.

Today I looked at some video of myself from the weekend that I did not upload because it ripped off the audio. I discovered the final ingredient to fixing my weak whirl. After hitting 7 in a row, I realized that after I clear the bag my foot does a dex, but it's an exaggerated "V", rather than a "whirling" motion. It will be a tough habit to break, but immediately after recognizing this I was able to hit the most economical whirling swirls I've hit. A few felt like they had to be in the style (though I make no claims of precision) of outsider, which is way-different than my usual, boat-sized whirl window.

Dude, crazy improvements in your stepping sets! Nice strings all together. Whirls are looking much better than this year's Funtastiks. Sick stuff dude. Keep at it.

Also, when I started to do stepping, Bob R told me not to hit any more ripwalks or blurs until I could hit 3 consecutive stepping ss clippers bs. That REALLY helped my stepping sets more than I can explain. I actually going to start drilling those again once summer starts, because I realized my stepping isn't where I want it to be.

If you concentrate on stepping ss clippers for a while and eliminate doing a single ripwalk or blur until you've hit 3 consecutive stepping ss clippers, I PROMISE you that you will see an even bigger improvement in your stepping sets.

Sounds like really good advice. I'll try it.

*Floaty, sticky torques on my "weak" side
*Both spins slowing down and getting more consistent
*Couple long strings

Two more days of class. Almost impossible to concentrate on my final assignment.

Dude I feel you on that. I can't concentrate on studying at all. The end is so close!

Good that you're working on bs spins. I've been doing the same lately.

Good luck on your final.

Past my candidacy and got the late slot for my thesis show next year, so more time to prepare. That's some good news!

Anyway, I'm back in NYC. It feels like home but it's just so expensive. I want to move back but we'll see. Pittsburgh is so inexpensive and the friends/family thing is so important to me. Felix, my nephew, is more important than anything. Really cool little guy.

Just kicked in a handball court in LIC. Schooled some drills. broke my record for pm-inf-rpt. No idea how long but pushing absurdity. Right shoulder was killing me after that. Hit a string with torque bsos, etc., first try- that was awesome. My torques feel much better. Gonna try and drop whirls/rev.whirls in more frequently, and not drill em back to back as much. Hit beyond 10 ducks, which was nice. remembered something. Also, hit a string with inf.-swirl bs. That was a major accomplishment.

Here is a link to what I am up to this summer (ie: reading): http://ibrill.com/blog/?page_id=520

That's just May. I'm pushing myself. No more of this bullshit. Single, in grad school, healthier than ever and fucking thirsty as all hell for success.

It's been NYFA weekend, here in NYC, for me.

Kicked in LIC on Friday at a handball court while my friends played. Schooled some drills.

WSP Saturday was a blast with a good general turnout (Outsider made it into town too).

Sunday it was just Bruce, Ben and I and it was a good solid circle for another 3-4 hour session.

Highlights:
*Saturday I hit some of my longest strings ever, certainly in over two years.
•Footed symp. whirling swirl

*Sunday I hit some new combos and learned some new concepts, thanks to valuable advice from Ben and Bruce.
•Far butterfly swirl-twirl
•Whirling swirl-twirl
•Paradox whirl-far butterfly swirl
•Weak stepping ss butterflies, weighing on my heal and then on my toe

Planning on kicking with Ben in a bit today in McCarren park.
Gotta hit those books again before I lose myself to this beautiful summer...

Spring in NYC with NYFA? Super jealous. Props on all the hard tricks ending in swirl to twirl. That shows a lot of control, since it's hard (for me) to twirl out of anything harder than BOP. Have a brisk for me during one of the WSP sessions, ok?

I'm bummed I can't come out to McCarren today, I love playing there! The astroturf is very kind to my knees.

It was good to get two consecutive days of shred in WSP though! Good luck immersing yourself in your miasmatic epistemological phenomandonandonology

Come back soon!

@Bruce: Lol!
@Ken: Right, just because I'm on summer break doesn't mean it's not spring!

Kicked with Ben- had a blast. Great guy.

Highlights:
• Swivel- far inf. twice
• Whirl-drifter-twirl-pm
• Healed paradox whirling swirl
• drifter bsos
• bunch of nice wauxspins
• some decent strings

Bruce: thanks for helping me to update my Facebook status!
Ken: So bummed I couldn't grab a brisk in time, but I'll honor that request next time I'm there, and maybe throw some Matadors in with it (especially since I'm feeling the Spanish-vibe, as I just fell in love with live Flamenco... and at least one dancer...!!!).

Should probably not kick today as I am recovering from a cold, but I am so, unbelievably tempted!!! I want to make a video of me hitting 100 drifters, at least on one side. It would be so sick. Like me. Sick. Fuck.
