Brought it today. Upped my max push ups at the end of the workout to 29. Sweat like crazy. I love the Calf-raises in this workout. I feel they will do wonders for my quest to play on my toes and avoid shin splints.
PS Whirl 4th try. whatever, it's a trick I'm not ready for, but felt nice to hit again.
-some gyro and spinning clippers. A few flip spins felt really tight.
28.5 max push ups
30 max squats
16 decline pushups.
Felt pretty good about my workout, until I had to double over in my kitchen sink while preparing my recovery drink. Not sure if it was workout related, but I lost all the fluids I had drank this morning.
Feel better now, just a few minutes later. Weird!!
Was out of town for the weekend. Did not stop me from working out.
Yesterday was day 39 of Power 90. Sweat 3-4 and Ab Ripper 200.
This morning I did Sculpt 3-4 for day 40! Almost halfway through this leg of the journey. Feeling great. Old friends didn't recognize me and asked me what I've been doing.
Did pretty good. No modifications in the section I usually have to. In other life news, I have a job interview Wednesday morning. I'm desperately trying to learn a Web Standard that up until this morning I had never looked into, as it's the main thing the company I applied for uses in their web development. I'd love to get into web design, but everything I know is self taught and on a basic level. I talked to the guy (owner? Manager?) on the phone today and he said he'd be willing to mentor me in getting the skills I need to work with them. That's great, but it may leave at my current job so some time to come. Back to studying.
Blah. Almost got sick again. Really took it easy towards the end of my workout when I started feeling sick. Felt terrible. I dunno what was up with that. Anyway, I skipped a few sections and modified others to keep myself from hurling. Overall I'd say it was 6/10 intensity. I hope I can sort this out soon.
Also, I had a job interview this morning. I was woefully under-qualified for it so I didn't have much hope going in. It went about as a expected. The guy I talked to is super nice and although I don't currently have the skill to work for them he's willing to kind of mentor me along. He gave me a list of things to learn and said as he see's promise he'll keep an eye out for small jobs that he can pass my way to test me out. I'm going to create a learning course out of what he said I should learn and work through online tutorials and whatnot, as well as look into signing up for an online course that will give me some accreditation. I think this may be a career I really want to pursue, which is cool because I don't currently have that in my life. I've thought about web design before, and even done some very basic stuff like design my guild's site for SWG, teach HTML in my High School since my teacher didn't understand it, build a site for an apartment building I managed and so on, but I've always been self taught and only learned what I needed to for the particular task at hand.
Alright, so a few small pieces of news while I'm bored at work. First, on of my new work out partners gave her two weeks notice yesterday. Her last day is May 27. I'm sad to see her go because I like her and I do enjoy our workouts, but I am looking forward to being able to play footbag and really focus on improving. I set a deadline for my spring summer goals of Sept 15, 2011, the same date as my push ups goal. And to recap, the goals are:
-50 tiltless
-30 tiltless consistently (at least once a session)
-don't stop playing.
At this point, I almost have stopped playing. My interest is still high, but Power 90 doesn't leave with the needed energy or time to also play. On the weekends if I workout in the morning, I can play later in the day if I have time, but it's been a few weeks since I've had time. Being able to play a few days a week at lunch will be awesome. I still have one workout partner, but our shifts don't match up as well so we won't workout every day.
Another co worker quit recently. My Jr. Consultant. He's basically my partner and teammate. We've got a few guys that fill that space, but I'll still miss him. He might stay on part time, but he found a better paying full time job. It's not hard to find a better paying job . . .
On my job search front, I'm going to continue to look for something different while I either teach myself web design with the hopes of getting on with this company I talked to yesterday or while I take an online course in web design. I found one that looks good but is over $10 000. Need to talk to my wife and bank to see if we can make that work. In related news, my wife has been sick lately and between her work and the extended hours she's been sleeping I haven't had a chance to really talk to her in about a week. I miss her.
Late start. Feeling crappy because of Taco supper. Need to eat better. Got through the workout. It was Sweat 3-4 and Ab Ripper 200. I'm breaking my no food/drink except water after 9pm rule to drink my recovery shake. Need to get better discipline and time management. Especially if I'm going to start a 20 hour/week school course. That's still a possibility. Need to talk to wife.
Worked out outside at lunch. it was gorgeous. I love summer and warm weather. I really should move somewhere warmer.
I've been following your blog for a while...it's a great read and I love seeing your progress.
I noticed you mentioned you're trying to get into web design and thinking of taking courses for that. I'm not sure what your skill level is right now, or what you are trying to learn, but I work for a web firm and know quite a bit about making web sites, so if you need pointers feel free to ask.
Hi Kam. I'm glad you enjoy my blog. As far as the web design. I know some basic HTML. Enough to make HTML sites and get them online. I've also worked with a basic CMS. I'm completely lacking in CSS, PHP, SQL, Flash and few other standards. I'm thinking what I need to learn is more than someone can teach on a forum like this. I've found some good tutorials and I'm pretty good at following them and learning from them. I'm thinking a course would be good so I have something next to my name, but if that doesn't work out I can continue to self teach myself.
Took an extra pause break not long into the workout because I needed water. I always wake up completely parched so doing workouts in the morning is a bit tougher. But I did it! I hope to play footbag later in the day.
Hey dude, thanks for comment in my blog. As to how I keep track of the contacts in every string I do, I think it just happens naturally cause I've been doing it for so long. I don't even think about it, and I still do it at this point haha.
And huge props on sticking with those workouts. By the time you get to insanity, it'll be easy for you. My roommates and I at college did a couple weeks of it before we were consumed by finals. It's totally doable!
Rocked it pretty good. I've gone back to the first protein powder I used and it tastes disgusting. I just opened the tub this morning and I can't wait for it be gone so I can get something else. It's nasty. I don't remember it being this bad.
I didn't play footbag yesterday, but once again I have my workout out of the way so I can hopefully play later in the day. Thanks for the tips John, I'll make it a habit to start counting. Hopefully my brain can learn to multi-task.
Finally kicked today. About 35 minutes. Played outside which was really nice.
I had two goals in mind before I started:
1. Get 10 tiltless.
2. Hit flip whirl b2b
Less than a minute into kicking I got #1. It took a bit longer to get number two but I got it as well. I didn't realize I could do 10 tiltless that well. I wonder how many times I've got that without realizing it. I really made a concious effort to count all session and I it wasn't as hard as I always imagined it to be. I think I had to think less about the tricks which may have been a good thing. Other things of note from the session:
tiltless x13 and x10 again flip whirl x3 shut ss whirl (got strong, footed flip) whirl > whirl > down rpt (felt controlled) alternating clippers x43
Whew! Breath. I read an article yesterday about how to breathe during exercise. I tried to apply it today. What a difference!! I feel great. I used to breath in and out for every action I took. Punch (breathinbreathout), kick (breathinbreathout), jump (breathinbreathout) jack. I sounded and pretty much felt like I was hyperventilating. Not cool. The article I read used the example of running and said for most people breathing once every four strides is good, but to experiment and find what works best for you. I don't run, but I took that and applied it my Sweat routine. I ended up spending 2-3 seconds and on every inhale and 2-3 seconds on every exhale. And they didn't have to match up to any action I was taking. It was a major breakthrough for my endurance. It seems so simple. Another tip I gained from the article was to inhale through your nose. I don't remember them mentioning how to exhale, but I found through my mouth works best. I did the entire workout without modifications and didn't even have that much trouble doing it. I still had trouble breathing in the abs section. Anyone have pointers for that?
Well, with my rest day tomorrow, this ends week 7. Bringing it!
One thing I've really focused on is portion control. I love junk food. And I have always been a pig. Eating whatever I want when I wanted. I haven't stopped eating what I want, but I have limited how much and when. I basically allow myself a treat once or twice a week. Last night I had Bacon and Pancakes with whip cream for supper. I only had one helping though. In the past I would have had at least 3 plates full of a favorite like that.
We often have cake at work, and I used to have 2 or 3 pieces. My favorite says was and still is "I like cake." But now I ask them cut me a small piece and I enjoy that. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I also don't eat or drink anything but water after 9pm.
In short, I don't not eat the foods I like when they are in front of me, I just eat less of them and try to make sure they aren't in front of as often.
