Epic finish on the part of the Mavs. With 6 minutes to go, the Mavs were down 15...and then came back to win the game by 2? Love it. Props to Dirk for scoring the last 9 points for the Mavs, including two layups with his left hand (non dominant, and also has a splint on it for a torn tendon).

For the first time in years I have followed the series this year.
Just watched game 4 and have watched 2 and 3 aswell - holy hell some exciting games.
I am very happy about how these finals are turning out. Super interesting.

Lesson: never put too much stock into what media pundits say. The games are played for a reason.

Some assorted thoughts:

1. For all the Heat hate, I thought they did pretty well for their first year together. They made the Finals, and had a 2-1 advantage in the Finals with homecourt advantage. Yeah, they fell completely apart over the last 3 games, but to come within two wins of a championship in their first year together isn't what I'd call a total failure either.

2. What happened to LBJ in the Finals? He was playing so well, especially in the clutch during the Eastern playoffs, and then? He looked like he was playing scared the whole Finals. This really surprised me, because it wasn't like the burden was entirely on him. He could have played at 60% of his ability and given the Heat a chance to win, since he had Wade to pick up the slack. I know people said he quit in the Boston series last year with Cleveland, but that seemed a lot more understandable to me, since he had no help then. This was very weird.

3. I'm happy for the Mavs (Dirk and JKidd especially), but I'd be extremely surprised to see them repeat. They're an old team that'll be a year older, they don't have the burning desire they had this year (team of ring-less vets), and they won't sneak up on anybody now that they're champs. But hey, at least they won one championship.

4. I'm really curious to see what the new collective bargaining agreement brings. This year the Heat were able to have three superstars on their team (close to three max contracts), but had trouble rounding out the roster because of it. If future salary structures are even more restrictive, it'll be even harder to surround the Heat Big 3 with a competent roster. If the Heat don't win a championship with their Big 3 in the next year or two because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if they trade Bosh or even LeBron to try and get some quality players to fill out the roster. I think if I'm the GM of the Heat and I have a chance to trade Bosh for a quality PG and Center, I have to do it.
